Originally I was going to call the guys I used last year. After reading reviews and checking the prices shown on some of the providers websites, I decided to go with Junk B Gone. Junk B Gone just finished hauling away a pile of purge that had accumulated in my garage/yard. First thing this morning I called to schedule a pickup. The person who answered said he would need to call me back in five minutes. I guessed I wouldn't hear back but he proved me wrong and called back in about two. Nice. He said he could have someone at my place between 2 and 4. When I asked for a quote he said he didn't want to be misleading in any way so preferred to wait until his driver arrived. The driver (Louis) showed up a few hours early. When I was surprised to see him, he quickly apologized. I really was able to simply point and let him know what to take away. I needed to add a few items and he just said, "no problem. I got it." The driver was professional, courteous, and very neat. He actually left the area where he removed the junk better looking than he found it. I think he swept too! What?! I should have asked if he did bathrooms and windows too. At the end of the transaction I was given a price that I thought was fair, especially compared to my experience with another company last year. I try not to be cynical when it comes to where I expect to find good customer service. I was pleasantly surprised to find real Customer-oriented Service with a hauling company. After years of thinking we should tear down our shed, we tore down our shed. 8x12x8 feet of rotting wood, ten thousand nails, and shingles so heavy we're surprised the whole house of cards didn't cave in on us long ago. So then our yard was full of shed. We only tore it down yesterday, but my husband had a day off and he was getting a little cranky, anxious to be rid of the damn thing that had plagued our yard for so long. We made about seven calls to everyone who got good reviews on Yelp, and of them all, Scott was the only one who was willing to come give us an estimate and haul everything away on the spot. EVEN BETTER: First he asked if he could come sometime between 2:30 and 4:30, and we were all weird and indecisive because -- day off, kind of wanted to leave and do something fun. So I told Scott I'd call him right back once we decided, hung up, and he immediately called and said: "Tell you what: I'll just come right now, and if you like the estimate, I'll haul it all away." He did. We did. He did. Scott is extraordinarily nice, super fast at loading (he did it all himself and let me tell you, that stuff was heavy!), and just nice to talk with all around. Called to make an appointment for a quote for some yard waste removal. Scott wanted to send a crew over that day even though I wasn't in a hurry. He was kinda pushy and insisted he'd haul the yard waste that day. Ok. I ended up waiting around all day...at least 4 hours...called twice to check and see if they were still coming. When I finally called to cancel, Scott told me they had just arrived. Sure enough they were in the yard and hadn't called to let me know they were on their way like they were supposed to. The junk truck was packed full. No way they would have been able to take my yard waste that day. The crew was nice but seemed tired and annoyed. They quoted me $850 to remove my yard waste. $300 for a small pile of misc junk. Way too much! My landscaper removed the yard waste, weed whacked, mowed and trimmed my giant laurel hedge for $300. Rented a truck and dumped the junk for less than $80. Pretty obvious they were trying to rip me off. Boo! read more

I called on Mon. and was scheduled for a Tues. morning pick-up before 11am. By 2PM or so, they hadn't arrived, so I gave them a call. The person handling the phones confirmed that I had an appointment for that morning and didn't know why their truck hadn't shown up, but after asking whether I was available that afternoon and offering to reschedule to the next day if I wasn't, the dispatcher scheduled another pick-up for two hours later on the same day, and apologized for the missed morning appointment. The truck arrived when they said it would later that afternoon, and two good-natured fellows looked at what I was disposing of (two college-era -- read: OLD and way past their prime -- small sofas), told me how much it would cost, and once I gave the OK, they had the furniture out the door in minutes. I tried to tip them, but the lead guy refused to accept it. I'm not sure if the tip was declined due to the pick-up being missed that morning or what, but both workers were friendly and personable, and while junk hauling always seems to cost more than I initially estimate, the price was reasonable, and I can't complain about the responsiveness of their customer service. Always felt a little guilty, as I use Yelp frequently but have never written a review myself. However, the delight and weight lifted of Junk B(eing) G-O-N-E...(!!!) has inspired me to write my first. I'm sure there are many of us with parents of a certain age, who do not want to get rid of ANYTHING. "Mom, do you really need this bag of shoulder pads from the 80's??"(the answer of course, "Yes!") After 35 years of staring at crazy, semi-hoarder basement, finally had opportunity/permission to clear with only brief window of time to do so w/o her around to edit. My brothers and I quickly filled a driveway full of stuff. Unfortunately, it was during the couple of days it rained and as they will donate your goods whenever possible (which I really appreciate) I was anxious to have it picked up right away before it got ruined. I called and spoke with Scott the next morning. He listened to my concern and told me he could have a truck there that same afternoon. I didn't even have to be there. They would call and give me an estimate over the phone. If I agreed, they would haul it away immediately. So I scheduled an appointment.
