Update: As others have noted, Ben's is persistent in reaching out to all reviewers who leave less than 5* (I got about five phone calls), which does partly explain their super high review average. My sense is that they offer partial refunds to unhappy customers. That said, the message I got did seem sincere, and you can't fault a company for trying to please an unhappy customer. I feel comfortable with a 4* review based on the extra effort on their part, but I stand by my original review. The movers were OK, and I don't want any sort of refund --they got the job done and should be paid for it, perfect or not. See other reviews. ***REVIEW UPDATE**** Given the untrue comment Bens moving company left after I posted my review I wanted to address them. 1 - you don't agree to a rate and a number of movers then change it because you think the customer needs more movers. Especially if this results in a higher rate. (See attached pic of our text message exchange confirming the rates) 2 - my old apartment doesn't even have 7 floors and my new apartment doesn't have 10 floors - it has 5. And I live on the second floor. Parking for both was out in front, not a half a block away. 3 - the owner claims that he has insurance and is bonded but when I sent him text messages to ask him to fix the issue, he never responded. I even gave him multiple opportunities to fix it before I posted my review and he ignored me. STAY AWAY FROM THESE MOVERS I'm not the only person whom they've pulled these tactics with. After leaving a voicemail I received a prompt response from the owner to schedule my move. We agreed upon a $30 trip charge, and a rate of $85/hr. I was told two men would show up to move my 1bd. The movers did arrive promptly at 8am , however I was surprised to find 3 movers since we agreed upon 2. I was told by the movers that the job after me required 3 so they sent three for me. Never did they mention a higher rate. The movers were painfully slow. It took them almost four hours to pack my 1bd apartment into their truck. With 3 men and a dedicated freight elevator that's ridiculous. The unload process was short - I assume it was because they needed to get to their next move. 6.5hrs total. I was informed that the move would costs $810 when I clarified the pricing the charged me for more. So adding a 3rd person without asking me, then going at a snails pace to move was unacceptable. Not to mention the damage. 3 pictures of my were destroyed. Did they mention it ... No. I found it the next day. Also my bed was damaged. There was a white paint mark and a dent - when I asked the movers about it they said "maybe it was there before". My bed was only two months old , and was never moved except by them. I asked them about the insurance coverage they provide and they indicated I should call the owner and he will handle it. I did, and left several text messages but never heard back from them once they got my cash. I will NEVER do business with them again. If other movers seem more expensive -pay it. Super happy with these guys. I ordered a large 6-drawer dresser from Target thinking it would come disassembled. Lo and behold it came in a big ole 200-lb box. How to get it upstairs to my son's bedroom? This is not something you just ring up your neighbor for. This is backbreaking stuff. I contacted Ben's Moving Service and got a quote within an hour. The next morning Victor and Nathan came by at the promised time and a) unpacked the box; b) wrapped the dresser in cloth and plastic; c) hauled it up the stairs; and d) took all the trash away. You can tell these guys are pros. No nicks or dents to the dresser, no damage to my walls. Can't ask for anything more. Will call these guys again when I have heavy stuff to move. read more

These guys are great as long as they don't break anything. They were easy to schedule, worked hard, and took good care of the house and the stuff they were moving. However, unfortunately one item did break, and then we saw a different side of the company: they became very unresponsive, failed to call back when they said they would, and had inadequate insurance. They have committed to fixing the broken item, and I will update this review when/if we get that repaired item back. UPDATE: They came through. The item was repaired beautifully (and more quickly than anticipated) and redelivered. So all is well. Ben's would have 5 stars if they had been more responsive initially, but ultimately, they made this right and I am satisfied. read more

As a person who has moved 8 times in the last 10 years, including across the country, this is by far and away the worst moving experience I have ever had. I have never experienced two people so terrible at their job as the two "movers" I was sent for this job. They arrived to my apartment 15 minutes late which is fine, it's Seattle, even on Saturday morning at 8am, I'm sure there can be traffic. I had the elevator reserved and ready to go and these two guys started working. It's not hyperbole when I say they were carrying one item each from the apartment, to the truck. Now anyone who has ever moved into, or from a high-rise knows how inefficient that is. With me finally jumping in and staging the elevator and carrying equipment, it took the 3.5 hours to load the truck on a 1 bedroom apartment. At this point, I already determined that I made a mistake hiring this company, but that's when it really went south. I provided the driver with the address, of which I typed into his phone myself. The address was just over 1 mile from my old unit in South Lake Union, to the new place in downtown. After 30 minutes of them not showing to my new apartment, they finally answered the phone. When I asked where they were, I was greeted with a very surly response of, "We're here across the street in the Subway parking lot." To which I replied, there is no subway parking lot, you guys are in the wrong location. "No, we aren't they say. We are at the address you gave us." This continues on with me being argued with and eventually hung up on. Now, I'll admit I lost my temper at this point. They were nearly an hour to finally arrive after I told them the address again. The went to a similar address, not the correct one which was half a mile away. When the arrived, the passenger had a smirk on his face and said, "The driver says he went to the address you gave him." If he believes that, that's fine, but I was unaware that the address they went to even existed. To make the situation even worse, because these guys were so late, I lost the reservation of the elevator and had to wait another hour, paying these morons by the hour the entire time. I am providing pictures along with this review of them bringing items up from the truck to the apartment one at a time. When it was finally over, they quoted me the full price, including their detour to the wrong address! I vehemently refused of course and we finally agreed at taking 45minutes off the time. It should have been 2 hours for the non-sense, the unbelievably terrible and inefficient service, the plain out disregard for the customer, and them causing the loss of the elevator. Do yourself a favor and find ANY other company other than this one. Even with the 45 minutes off, I spent $660 dollars of my hard earned money to move a 1 bedroom apartment that at the end of the day, my girlfriend and I did the majority of the work. To add insult to injury, they left with the FOB for my building and wouldn't answer their phones. To get it back I had to call Ben and he was able to get them to bring it back. I contacted Ben on short notice on the recommendation of my barber, Johnny @ Johnny's Barbershop on Greenwood Ave. Ben came though for me on short notice. His team showed up as expected to help move a 70" touchscreen display. They carefully wrapped and transported it to the loading dock of the convention center. From there they transported it to the tradeshow floor and delivered it to my booth. At the end of the show, they arrived precisely when I needed them to return the display back to my office later that night. Ben's Moving can be counted on and I'll use them again. I would absolutely recommend Ben's Moving based on our recent local move with them (Seattle to SeaTac). We were a little wary at first as communication with Ben was a bit more...casual, I guess, than other local movers we checked out. But in the end, the move went very smoothly. His crew showed up right on time, loaded up all of our stuff in a short time (including disassembling our bed and wrapping up our other furniture) and quickly but carefully got everything unloaded where we wanted it in the new place (and put our frustrating bed back together). I haven't done any move in the last 4 years so I was a bit nervous about it. Victor Jose and Pablo from Ben's team helped me. The move was scheduled 8AM on Saturday and Victor called me at 7:45 that he is waiting infront of my home and they can start the loading whenever I am ready. Victor Jose and Pablo efficiently used every minute. They had all the tools needed to take care of the job and by noon I was at my new home setting up the wifi :) Before deciding to use Ben's team I asked may be 8-10 other movers and Ben's team gave me a very competitive price without any extra/hidden charges. In setting up our move made it clear picking up 2 places, and that our garage is where we would load up at 8am. Friday comes around its 7:50 i walk down stairs to the garage no sign of bens moving, walk to front of building nothing wait till 8am. Go up stairs contemplate calling them. (Ive moved several times, across the USA, i know what to expect) 8:15 i received a call, they are out front on a busy road and not where i directed the day before to the owner. Claiming to have been waiting over 15min. I had them pull around to the garage. They were 15 min late, both were not in good moods, packed and moved our stuff and lost getting to our new place. 3 stars charged for their lateness, and getting lost accumulated 30-40min. Just like you..I was looking for movers on yelp. Obviously I wanted five stars, and I got just that (if not more) for such a reasonable price. Wow! There are no words to describe the caliber of service we had with Rafael and Israel. For starters, I was moving from a fifth floor of an apartment to a high-rise apartment where the move-out and move-in timings are tight. I was SO worried because we were moving during the pride parade, YES PRIDE PARADE, so I called and asked if I could schedule a six am (yes crazy) instead of nine am move out, and it was not a problem what-so-ever. I am pretty Type-A, and they were so good about responding or answering questions. There was zero wait time for any response. They always answered my calls as well. My furniture is all mirrored finish, and they were so careful with everything they wrapped, taped, AND blanketed all of my furniture. I was in such awe watching them-they were so efficient. I also have a crazy bed with all sorts of parts--they put it together and took it apart perfectly. I had a big mirror, boxes, bags, you name it--THEY DID IT ALL! Just for extra points, we actually had a complication with the elevator where we got stuck in it for fifteen minutes. Rafael helped my mom through a major panic attack--such a saint. Also, they worked with SUCH urgency. I have heard horror stories about movers taking their sweet time--NOT them. I will be recommending Rafael and Israel to everyone and anyone in my building/friends/family. Best. Service. Ever. Especially for those who are anxious/nervous/unsure about movers. Donny, Raphael, and Cesar made my first experience using professional movers a great one. I don't think I'll ever attempt to move without using professionals ever again! I was charged for two movers but had three and the whole move took just under two hours for a second story one bedroom pickup to a ground level one bedroom 20 minutes away. They never waited around, and as far as I know, were working diligently and carefully the whole time. The gentleman who worked with me to make this scheduled move was communicative and the gentlemen who completed my move also gave me a heads up through the phone that they were on their way (and arrived earlier than expected). No damages at either location. From my brief research into different moving companies and my personal experience, the efficiency of your move is greatly dependent on what expectations you set for the company. Be accurate with your inventory and ability to access your units/house and you won't be met with any surprises regarding price or time spent. read more

It took 3 and a half hours to move 4 rooms of furniture out of our old place and into our new place. The crew exceeded my expectations- they were prompt and worked with a high sense urgency, but still took such good care of my belongings (wrapping all my furniture and such in plastic/cloths). I don't believe a single item broke during this move! They were super quick to unload the truck, and ensured that I got the say where every box/ piece of furniture was placed in my new house. I had an excellent experience with Ben's Moving during my move from Mill Creek to Kirkland. Ben responded on very short notice during the holidays (I called him on New Year's Eve and was he was able to give me a quote for moving the next week). I called on Thursday to set up and he had two movers ready to go for 8 am on Saturday. Victor and Omar arrived right on time and were able to very quickly get my 1 bedroom apartment disassembled, packed into the truck, and moved over to Kirkland and reassembled. Overall, the move took about 2 hours (Ben's has a 3 hour minimum) and I was very satisfied with the results. Pros: Prompt, Fast and Effecient -- I booked Ben's moving services a couple of days before my move and and they were willing to accomodate at short notice. The guys were prompt in arriving on time and starting to load boxes that I had packed. The unloading process was relatively faster and they did help setting dismantled bed back in shape at the desired place. Cons: Customer Experience, Hidden charges unless you clarify in advance -- Customer trust is critical in services, and that bring this feedback rating down to 2 Starts. I had discussed the pricing to be $85/hr + $30 for gas, for 2 helpers and whereas they brought 3 helpers hence raising the hourly charge. I would have been happy to pay more if they had told me about this in advance and not catching me offguard with a $120/hr charge + $30 for gas for 3 helpers. Overall, good movers if you are clear and keep them transparent on transactions. read more

These guys did my move yesterday. They moved very slow and took their sweet time! My move into a large studio apartment took 5.5 hours and should've only taken 3. They had 3 guys, but I only asked for 2. They even tried to act like they were giving me a deal by only charging for using 2 guys at 5.5 hours! I only asked for 2 so that isn't a deal! At one point I looked out the window and watched the 2 guys that were the "runners," stand behind the truck and talk to the guy packing for several minutes! We did have to travel from my current apartment to my storage to the new apartment. But the actual travel time was 45 mins max. We also ran into an issue because the apartment scheduled 2 move-ins that day. Even that was only 30 mins of waiting! They had a move earlier that day, so maybe they were tired??? Either way, I probably paid an extra $200 due to them moving EXTREMELY slow. I won't be using this company again. Very disappointed. read more

Just used Bens Moving service today. Was such an easy process from making the appointment to the actual move. Donny Rafael and Cesar were the actual movers and went over and beyond with my move. My sofa wouldn't fit through my entry up to the second floor. They lifted it through a balcony and then carried it up to the 3rd floor. My husband is a disabled Iraq war veteran (Marine). We just bought a house and needed to move. He couldn't physically do it himself and I needed help ASAP (long story). I got in touch with Ben's and was not only astounded by their affordable prices but also their availability to help at the last minute. After reading several great reviews, and a couple of very poor reviews, I was skeptical about the service I would receive. I am thrilled by the service I received from Victor, Donny, Bruno and Omar. Being raised by an Italian from New Orleans and being Married to a Marine, I was more than impressed with these guys. They were very courteous, polite as worked their tails off. They worked VERY hard, efficiently and smoothly. After reflecting all day about the negative reviews I did read, and reflecting on the more than dozen moves we've personally made, I think those reviewers were being unrealistic. I was told it would be about a 5 hour move, but it ended up being a 6.5 hour move. I watched and kept an eye out to make sure I wasn't being taken advantage of and that is far from this case. I will definitely recommend Ben's and namely Victor, Omar, Bruno and Donnie to anyone I know who's moving ...and I know a lot being in the home lending industry.
