Passed through on a road trip and it was so good we made a second visit on our way back home. The menu changed between the first and second visit and was amazing both times. We only wish this was in New York so we could try everything on the menu each time it changes. The kitchen was able to combine so many flavors and textures together splendidly and everything was delicious up to the last bite. We arrived after 7pm on a two day road trip and wanted a fantastic meal and read the reviews, thought we would give it a try since it was only minutes away from where we were staying. Not impressed, it was super expensive ($150 for three) we ordered the French onion soup (bread was partly burnt and there was actually more bread than soup) bread, lamb, filet and mushroom ragu for our main entrees. My hubby enjoyed his lamb, but the carrots with the filet entree was ALL burnt- I had to send them back...why would the chef even serve their customers these? My mushroom ragu was OK. I felt like it was more of a side dish than an entree. Wish I ordered something different. We waited for our food for 45 minutes!!! AND the restaurant was not even half full. Our waiter was nice but slow service and for the price- the filet could have been bigger (it was tiny, looked like not even 3 oz). Disappointed, I have high expectations when we are paying $40+ entrees and this establishment was far from meeting it. read more

We had a great experience at Juniper. I can suggest the Pork chop, the cherry glaze was so flavorful and went perfect with the Wild rice. Asparagus was great. I recommend the Creme Brûlée and Raspberry White chocolate Trifle. Wine and Beer selection was amazing. Service was very friendly and attentive. read more

This place seems like an experiment more than a restaurant. It's really interesting: it's definitely upper scale, but then you have odd little quirks like the soda coming in cans, really odd plating, and a tiny floor plan. It's a hit though, I really enjoyed the food. I ordered the cheese plate, beet salad, and the market salmon. It's a bit pricey (alert- I'm going to sound really pretentious here)- I ordered the market seafood at $30, which turned out to be farmed Atlantic salmon. In other words, a pretty cheap salmon. It was cooked really well, so that helps. Still, prepare yourself for a bigger tab. Definitely worth another visit. Great service. read more

Wanted to try something new and have heard great things about this place. The food was absolutely outstanding and personally, worth every penny. There are other places that charge close to the same and their food doesn't even come close. Portions were more than enough, my steak was cooked perfectly and our salmon was seared to perfection. Wasn't expecting this good of a meal in small town Rapid City since we have just moved from CO. It is a little out of the way but worth the drive. Outstanding! We went for my Mom's 95th birthday and couldn't have had a better time. All our meals were absolutely delicious. The autumn apple salad was so yummy; our mains were the halibut, steak tips and mushroom ragout - all wowza!! Service was interrupted by a patron having a medical emergency. The server/owner was extremely apologetic, which he didn't need to be, and comped part of our tab, which was quite generous. Highly recommend! read more

Amazing dinner.....Matthew had perfect service. Best server ever. Pete did an outstanding job I had the pork tenderloin and risotto and green beans. Wife had the scallops. Food was to die for....has been too too long since we've had food that was prepared with such care and attention to nuance and flavor. And the carrot and ginger soup before the meal was out of this world...a dab of ground pepper from our server and just perfection in a bowl. Good --but stingy portions! I got salad- and ordered another- so few leaves on the plate. I got the onion soup - again good-- but the charge of a bowl for a very small cup! Really, it's frustrating. The cost of cooked onions is so small I don't get why you'd skimp on the size after all the effort. I'm not a big eater, I just expect average portions, but you pay a lot and leave hungry. I was tempted to try the pizza place in the same center. There's only a few tables and the atmosphere is nice. Even if the idea is to get an appetizer, a salad and and entrée, oh and a dessert- portion size should be improved. But I guess they don't need more business because they're usually booked on weekend dinners. read more

Hands-down the best place to eat in South Dakota!! To start we did not have reservations but it was a weeknight so it wasn't much of a wait. We were seated pretty quickly and since we already reviewed the menu online we knew what to order. Started with the cheese plate and it did not disappoint. The cheese was accompanied with a delicious apricot jam, olives and olive oil as well as Italian bread slices. The waiter explain what each cheese was as well which was a nice touch. For the entrée I ordered a filet mignon and my husband got the lamb chops. It was literally the best meal I've had in a long time. The steak was seasoned well and perfectly cooked and the sides were amazing. We finished off with dessert which was a special kind of bread pudding and the taste is indescribable. After being spoiled for a week in Mpls at three 5star restaurants, we stumbled onto the Juniper Restaurant. We had no idea this fantastic gourmet eatery even existed in RC. What an absolutely delightful spot on Sheridan Lake Road. The service was outstanding and the salmon was equally wonderful. They are NOT chincy with the wine either. Our salmon was a goodly sized portion and the dessert was outstanding. After dining at the Capital Grill, the Beef and the Boar, La Grollas and others in Mpls, we felt we'd miss the 5 stars there. We were pleasantly surprised at the Juniper. Delightful staff, and our waiter was very personable and made us feel like we were special. We will definitely be dining again there. We were especially pleased because since the Corn Exchange closed, we've been sorely missing a top notched restaurant here. What a fortunate find for us. I guess we need to get out more, because only today I learned of its existence. read more

A resounding "WOW" for this restaurant! Service: The server was very friendly and informative about the dishes and the wine selection. He was very attentive during the meal, and a huge plus that my water glass was never less than half full. Food: We ordered too much. I wasn't thrilled with the fresh fish selection being trout, since I have never been a fan. Shared a cheese plate that was great, and then had the beet salad, which was AMAZING. I was feeling quite satisfied when my trout entree arrived. Did I say I wasn't a fan of trout? I need to change that statement to, " I don't care for trout unless it is prepared by Pete at Juniper." The potatoes, carrots and trout were so wonderfully flavored without being overpowering--amazingly yummy!! I can't wait to have the leftovers tonight when I get home. Great service. Great meal. Pros: Excellent food, good service, convenient parking. Cons: The atmosphere can be loud as there are a lot of hard surfaces. And on cold days, the staff has a challenge in keeping the place warm as it includes many full length windows. I will be back and will recommend it to other who like REALLY good food. read more

While passing through Rapid City this past weekend my wife and I were looking for a nice restaurant to have dinner. We looked on Yelp and found this restaurant with high ratings and was also down the street from where we were staying. We arrived and noticed that they were closed for a Passover private dinner function; but to our amaze the owner Mathew opened the door for us to tell us what was posted on their door for that evenings private dinner. Mathew began to tell us what they were preparing and mentioned the beet salad, which my wife loves beets and told us that he was going to make us a beet salad to go and invited us in while his staff prepared it. This was over the top generous of Mathew and he also recommended a nearby restaurant for us to go to since the private party was taking place just minutes after we were leaving. Not only was this over the top but the beet salad was divine and here's the picture to prove it! Thank you Mathew for you hospitality! read more

Nice Dinner. Limited Menu. This restaurant knows its niche and has a limited menu, but each item is fresh and well prepared. Dined here and my husband and we enjoyed filet mignon with mashed potatoes and carrots, duck with barley and asparagus, and a Caesar salad. He had a trio of gelatos for dessert and I opted for the chocolate truffle rolled in pistachios and served with really fresh whipped cream. Wine is by the bottle, which is problematic if you can't find a bottle that works for you both. Cost per person, including tax and tip was about $65. read more
