What an experience in eating over boiled unseasoned seafood. The quantity was fine and up to par with other Storming Crabs. However, mushy, water logged meats just did not get my vote. You would think polish sausages, red potatos, and steamed broccoli would have been seasoned well enough to enjoy. Besides that the decor, the attention we received from the time we entered was an upgrade to many other restaurants like the Crab. Will try again in Lexington, Kentucky in the next few weeks to see how they compare. read more

I was hesitant to try seafood in Rapid City but,Storming Crab is really good! The fried okra appetizer is perfectly cooked, crisp and fresh! My husband got the Fried Shrimp Poboy. It came with Cajun fries. He said the sandwich was really fresh and came out hot. I got the pick 2 combo. Sausage and head-off shrimp with 1 corn and 1 potato. There are different "boils" you can choose from so I picked the Cajun boil. They have garlic, old bay, butter etc. it's from mild to extra hot! NEVER AGAIN. I had high hopes for this seafood boil, but unfortunately, it was a major disappointment. The food was bland with a strange off taste, and the crab and shrimp were tough and clearly freezer-burned. The so-called "butter" flavor tasted more like butter-flavored oil, which didn't help the overall experience. We ended up not eating most of the food, and for a $150 bill, I expected MUCH better quality. The server told us all the seafood is frozen. They definitely charge fresh food prices... we were offered a mere 10% discount as compensation, which didn't feel like enough. I won't be returning. We were greeted immediately and sat at the closest booth to the host station. The restaurant was completely empty of customers. Our server greeted us, but was very rushed to try to serve us. I explained I had never been there before and needed a few minutes to review the menu. We tried to give a drink order and she would run away before we could even tell her that we wanted an appetizer. when we would tell her, we would want one appetizer she tried to walk off before we could tell her our second appetizer choice. She was very friendly, but definitely was very rushed even though there were no other customers in the restaurant. If I would've known any better, I would've assumed she was busy trying to get to other customers. You get two free breads slices, but we ordered the appetizer it got for additional slices of the bread. I personally did not like it. It was very greasy. When I asked what it's made of it is imitation, crab, mayo, and cheese on top of bread. We also got fried okra as our second appetizer. I took pictures of the menu and the appetizers, but forgot to get a picture of our meal because I was so eager to try it. Our entrées were very delicious. I ordered snow, crab, shrimp, and scallops in a garlic butter sauce with no heat. The person with me order Dungeness crab, lobster tail, shrimp, and clams. We both enjoyed our entrées a lot. Since it opened I have been there three times (I did write a review after my first visit). The second time I ordered the soft-shell crabs again, again they were uber greasy. At that point I decided I just couldn't handle the excessive grease. It was truly that bad! A good year plus goes by and my husband and I decided to go and I'd just try something different. I was excited to see a restaurant like this in Rapid City because it's something different. This one star review is based on food quality alone. My family and I came here for dinner because I really wanted to try it out as it's a new restaurant in the city. However, all five of us ended up getting diarrhea afterwards, which I found very surprising especially from my brother who didn't eat any of the food we ordered except for some of the fries, boiled egg, and sausage. I don't know what happened, but I suspect the food quality is not that great because we were all doing fine beforehand. I understand this is a newer restaurant & do have some recommendations for the mngt consideration - I'll start with the food: We received complimentary cheese bread, which had a mayonnaise-y aftertaste. After 1 bite, I knew it wasn't for me. I think just the bread with cheese would have been pretty good. I ordered a mix/match of 1/2 lbs of snow crab, 1/2 Dungeness & 1/2 clams. This came with 1 mini corn cob & red potatoes (I added some sausage), I selected the crab house Cajun spices - medium heat. Ohhhh man the seasoning for the "crab boil" was the reason this is a 4 star review instead of 3 star. The buttery, spicy sauce had huge chunky of garlic. In hindsight I wouldn't have added sausage - it was average & didn't jazz up the dish much. The food is in a plastic bag & poured into a dish - which I think is part of their schtick. The server was - "meh", I asked for recommendations for amount of food (e.g. is 1 lb of x enough for "1 person" - every time I asked questions about "how much food is this?" Her only answer was "depends how much you eat" - I think servers should be given training/exposure for answering questions about "how much food is in a pound of [insert type of food]" - for people that don't eat seafood often (especially in Rapid City,SD). read more

Being from deep southeast Texas, Cajun country, the flavors were a bit bland. The only thing "Cajun" about it was the decor, and even that was a bit iffy. I had the snow crab, crawfish, and shrimp boil. Server was Asian, cook was Spanish, and probably owned by a Yankees. On 07-12-2023 we had the 1/2 lbs Dungeness Crab and 1/2 lbs Headless Shrimp Baskets. This was our first time, and it was messy. A little too much work for the booty. I like crab meat and shrimp but that was too much work and messy. The garlic butter sauce was very good. The restaurant was neat to look at. This restaurant does seafood boil in individual bags (in oil) rather than cooking all orders in house water based broth/boil. This allows for more flexibility in the flavor and heat preference, but is a quite a bit greasier. Price was on point considering portions. The customer service was fine, the food was good enough. I know we're in landlocked SoDak, but when do we ever get consistently amazing seafood here? And I'm over the Deadwood buffet...gimme a bib and throw out the low country boil on the table paper! The ambiance feels like a chain with funky quirks that make the time waiting for the boil fly by! Pro tip: bring your Sharpie (or ask) to decorate the walls (I admit I did look for the proverbial cockatoo and balls). Great service, fab food, and decent craft beer selection! We had been told it's was way overpriced for what you get and not that great of flavor but wanted to give it a try anyway. We went for lunch and got 2 baskets, the gumbo and crab cakes. I wouldn't say anything was good but the only thing we did finish to get full was the gumbo and the shrimp from its basket. The catfish was spongy and the breading wasn't crunchy at all. The crab cakes you could tell were not fresh crab, pretty sure it was canned and not the good kind. I expected better from a seafood restaurant. We got the potatoes as a side for one of the baskets, we expected them to be seasoned like the ones in the boil but they were the blandest thing we ordered, however we were given salt packets to season ourselves. The very least I expect when I go out to eat is properly seasoned food but they couldn't even salt their fries. The service was ehh, the lady nice but nothing too special. We definitely won't be back, and are glad we didn't get the expensive seafood boil since they can't even get a basket to taste good. read more

We love the food here! We were in town for the Sturgis Rally which didn't start until Friday. We found this place on Thursday and had their raw pusters, baked oystes, #2 & #5 combos with their cajun hot & garlic butter. Service was excellent & food was so good! This is probably an unfair review because I have an allergy to shellfish. Everything I had was awful. The bread was mushy but tasty. The gumbo was canned quality My cod was literally rubbery and inedible . Now my husband and another dining mate said their seafood boils were not the best they had but tasty enough. Two of our 4 ordered clam strips. Several minutes later, someone other than our waitress came out to tell us they were out of clam strips. We ordered a couple of other items. The food took just over 40 minutes to come out, for one of us. The other food arrived about 10 minutes later. Still, everything was hot. However, one of the dishes we ordered was never delivered but was credited when we told them. Be prepared for a large bill. This place isn't cheap but the food was good. I was worried when they came out with two plastic bags and noticed the food was covered with a yellow watery substance that when tasted and smelled appeared to me as margarine. It tasted just as nasty as ever and was covering the food. when I asked they lied and said it was some gluten free butter substitute. which by the way is margarine. I am offended that they don't tell their customers that they skimp and save theirselves cash by using inferior products and still charge 50 to 180 dollars per person and don't even use real butter on the seafood.
