I love this place. Maybe it's the fact that it's one of the few independent restaurants in chain-infested Eagan. Maybe it's because you can get a breakfast or lunch for $6. Maybe even because the portions are giant. It could also be because the service is good and the quality is consistent. Could also be because you can site at the bar and watch them cook. Junior's is designed as a nostalgic, old-fashioned diner, from the tables and chairs and old coca-cola posters on the wall, to the bar and open cooking area clearly visible to the customers, ala Waffle House to those not from these parts. I've been here twice, once for a weeknight dinner where it was nice and quiet, extremely fast and attentive service, to a loud, busy weekday lunch where the two waitresses were clearly not enough for the number of customers there. The first time I had the Chicken Fried Steak dinner, with kernal corn and mashed potatoes with a side of garlic toast. Honestly, this place gets +1 stars just for having *CREAM* gravy - the number of places I've been to up here that serve CFS with brown gravy amazes me. The second time, just this past week, I went during lunch and ordered the Diablo burger - with pepper jack cheese, fresh grilled jalapenos (with seeds intact), and a chipotle sauce. It was pretty tasty, but not on par with the same burger at the American Burger Bar in downtown St. Paul. The crinkle cut fries were fresh out of the fryer and seasoned just right. Although I went during lunch the second time, the amount of time it took to get me a refill and my check was ludicrous. The waitress brought out my drink, took my order, and because I was sitting at the bar and the cook gave me my meal, she didn't talk to me again until I got my check. I ran out of something to drink halfway through my meal and literally sat there for 10 minutes until the waitress brought me a refill with my check - I can't place the blame solely in her hands, however, as I saw that she was working the entire time and even saw her slicing a cucumber for a customer's salad during that time. In any case, it's lunch time...having 2 cooks and 2 waiters for 40-50ppl just isn't conducive to top-notch service. -1 star. I'll be back at least one more time to try their breakfast, and as others have stated, the portion sizes are incredble. Regardless of how things go, I'd still say this place gets a solid 3-3.5 stars. If you're in the area, stop by. If you're not, it's not worth the trip to good 'ol Eagan just for a meal. read more

I was here a couple weeks ago for breakfast after reading other reviews on Yelp. I'm happy to say I was not disappointed. I walked into this malt shop in a strip mall and seated myself at the counter. I ordered the Mexican omelet. It was well done, but a little spicy for my taste, so I'm glad it included sour cream. There were a couple regulars seated next to me who had a good time teasing the waitress in good-natured fun. I nearly fell on the floor laughing when one guy pulled out his cell phone and called in an order for two cinnamon rolls to go, but let the waitress know he was only fooling with her before she realized he was sitting at the counter and hung up on him. I'm only giving four stars because there was no "build your own omelet" item on the menu. I'm going to ask the next time I stop in though. I'm also looking forward to checking them out for lunch to see how the burgers are. read more

My husband and I were out shopping on a Sunday afternoon and I had heard about Junior's, so I talked him into going there for lunch. There weren't any hours posted on the door, so since there were cars in front, we went in. We were greeted immediately and shown to a table. As we were debating about what to eat - this being our first time there - the waiter (owner? manager?) came over and informed us that they were closing in 3 minutes. So we quickly ordered the first thing that came to our minds, which were both burgers because I had read that they are really good. He didn't ask us how we wanted our burgers, but suggested well done. Even though we usually get our burgers medium-well, since we felt like we were keeping them there just for us, we went along with it. When the food came, the burgers were, in fact, one of the largest I've ever had and the french fry portions were huge. The food was good, but I didn't think it was anything to make me recommend it to anyone. I am willing to give them another try on some other occasion, like breakfast, but there was nothing to make me crave their food to come back for lunch. They get three stars for the portions and the friendliness for serving us even though we came in right before closing. POST SOME HOURS so it doesn't happen again! read more

my wife and I had the Brooklyn Burger and the Wisconsin cheeseburger. they were both excellently prepared. cooked to perfection! very tasty! the onion rings and fries were excellent! as with any take-home order deep fried items like fries and onion rings cool off a bit so if you have an air fryer to warm them up it's just like eating them on site. we are going back for other items in the near future. We were on our way home from spending a weekend in downtown Minneapolis. The restaurant we planned to have breakfast at in St. Paul changed their Sunday opening time. Since we were passing through Eagan I quickly checked yelp for help and found Junior's Cafe & Grill. When we walked in around 10:30 am the place was pretty full. Luckily there were a couple of tables available outside. My BLT sandwich with hash browns was delicious. The bacon was cooked nice and crispy as requested. Loved the crispy hash browns as well. The food here is simply amazing, I have yet to venture outside the breakfast portion of the menu however. I don't eat meat so my selection is limited but the French toast is fantastic. I normally go for that or the scrambled eggs next time I will try the cheese omelet for sure. For the meat eater's the burgers here do look tasty but it's not for me. My friend swears by the thick Bacon to which she says is amazing and delicious. The food is served very quickly with very little wait time, even when busy. The server's are fast on refills and do a great job on checking on you to make sure your happy with the meal. My mouth is watering looking at the gentlemens wavy thick French fries next to me. You also get to watch everthing cooked in front of you for evidence. Great staff. Primo location. A standoff on it's own is well deserving however, being in it's current location will keep the costs down for them. David the server and everyone else there has a gigantic smile on their face which is nice to see. Perfect American food. Staff is always friendly, quick, and courteous. It is like an older style diner, but very clean inside and I like that you can watch them cook your food. Burgers are excellent, Kelly Burger (Bacon Cheeseburger) is excellent. They have the best bacon so of course the BLTs are the best you will find. Fries are good, they use some kind of seasoning salt on them which I like. I have also tried the meatloaf / meatball sub and it was very good, but huge. Also it is hard to find a restaurant these days that has good breakfasts and a good variety on the breakfast menu. Juniors has great breakfasts. Besides their normal American breakfasts, they also have some with chorizo and they have a huge breakfast Quesadilla that could easily feed two people. read more

I was feeling a bit down tonight while running errands and realized it was getting late for supper. I remembered that someone said that this place was solid. I was very happy with my experience here. The guys behind the counter were friendly and helpful, in ordering. My drink never got empty and the Berger I has was flipping awesome. I had the katys bacon cheese and it was big and tasty my fries were nice and crisp w/ a little salt. It looked as if they are more of a breakfast type place and I'm thinking Im going to try that out in black Friday. Ill be back here. read more

I arrived at 11:00 on a Saturday with three companions. There were a lot of people there, but there were two four-top tables available, so I was impressed that we could sit down immediately. Our pleasant server David showed up in only a minute or two, and shortly thereafter supplied us with coffee and water. Our orders took the expected amount of time and all of them were accurate. The food was very good -- I had an omelette with chorizo, onions and peppers. I also substituted the hashbrowns with an order of two sausage patties. Maybe the best part of my meal was the red salsa served on the side -- I ate every drop of it. My companions and I all enjoyed our meals and cleaned our plates! :-) While the space is very compact, every inch is used to its fullest potential. For example, the cooks working at the flattop and the fire grill are visible from every seat in the room. (There is also a diner-style bar around the edge of the kitchen.) The staff I saw were all working hard to serve customers and turn tables -- to make money in such a small space you have to be able to turn tables in a timely fashion without making customers feel like you are pushing them off their table. The staff here strike a good balance. The menu is lower priced than the chain breakfast places in Eagan and in East Bloomington, another plus. The menu has a tex-mex bent to it, which is fine with this reviewer. read more

I wanted to go and get a burger today and found this place not too far from home. We arrived about 1130AM and the place was completely packed except the two bar stools furthest from the door, so we sat there and watched the most incredible show of the entire staff in the kitchen....amazing choreography....they really know what they are doing. Almost everything was still breakfast being cooked, which I will have to try, the hash browns looked amazing - so did the french toast...eggs...omelets...bacon...sausage.....pancakes...breakfast burritos. But...we had been up since 530AM and we wanted lunch. I had the patty melt and my significant other had the BLT. Both were perfect and we easily could have had just one and split it - and we are not shy about portion size. I think it may have been the best patty melt I have had in Minnesota. Was here for lunch a few weeks ago. I had a burger, which was absolutely delicious. The fries were really good, too. Our server was super friendly and nice, and I love that quaint, 50's dinner feel. The definition of a "hole in the wall" place, but in the best possible way one could mean it. My only complaint was that it was really cold in here! We were there on a really cold day, and I am sure the heater just had a hard time keeping up, but instead of slowly enjoying the meal, we scarfed it down so we could go get warm.
