I fell in love with a past DJ in Miami...yup...my current partner who grew up in Richmond and brought me to this incredible city was a DJ at some point. When we lived in Miami, we spent a good amount of our time going to house shows. Although Richmond has a great music scene, we miss the electronic scene we had in Miami. Jungle Room is the closest thing in Richmond that provides this for us! The entry fee is $10 and the bouncer is really kind. It's pretty empty starting at 10 and they'll blast a smoke machine in the beginning. As the night goes on it gets busier. The music tends to get better later into the night. It feels like this place attracts a younger crowd, but that hasn't been a problem. For drinks I'd recommend the pina colada slushy, it's very thick and yummy! Jungle Room is not my vibe. I visited for a friend's birthday and had to leave the festivities early when they decided to cloud the room up with a smoke machine. Maybe that makes me old or uncool, but I hate smoke machines -- they're gross, make me cough, and burn my eyes. Fortunately I wasn't the only person in that boat, so several of us moved on to the next stop while others finished their drinks. The sugary cocktail I did have was good, though not memorable, as I don't recall its name now. The bartenders were prompt and friendly also. The bouncer situation was weird. I'm also perplexed as to why they don't allow people to use the bathroom upon entry. Instead you have to bypass the bathroom, which is literally right at the door, to show your ID, then loop back to the toilet. Not appreciated. All told, I won't be back. read more

Wouldn't recommend. Too foggy to see, to loud to hear, and so crowded you're literally pushing through people to get anywhere and can't even order unless you wait 45 minutes. I couldn't hear the people I was with, despite us screaming at the top of our lungs. Would never go back. read more

First time coming here for drinks after spending dinner at The Savory Grain. I was recommended by a friend and was not impressed. The entrance was in the parking lot of Sabai with no signs. So right off the bat i was already overwhelmed. Then you walk down this long hallway and it finally opens up into a bar/dance area with a stage/dj. Overall the atmosphere is really cool with great decorations. Staff were friendly but slow. Drinks were way overpriced for what you got. 10-16$ cocktails for maybe 6oz of fluid and 20oz of ice. Probably won't go back again. But cool spot to check out. Very dead on a Thursday night. read more

This was such a fun and different spot in RVA! There are so many bar scenes in a small radius that's it's hard to really stand out and Jungle Room was very unique! We went for their Saturday night happy hour - $2 off cocktails - and everybody in our party tried two different cocktails from the menu and they were all delicious and packed with tropical flavors. The crowd favorites were: Waking the Dead, Mexican Kimono, and Yellow Canary. We also ordered the two vegetarian/vegan appetizers - Po-Pai Thot (spring rolls) and the Puak Tod (fried taro) - and they were both so delicious we ordered another round. The service was wonderful but it was very quiet that early on a Sat night so not sure how the service and vibe would be once it picks up and there's a cover charge, etc. Overall it was a great experience and everything we were served was delicious! The overall style was different and fun. Would definitely return when the DJ is playing to see what that's like or just for another quiet tropical happy hour. read more

We had a great time here during Spring Break! The bouncer was very nice upon entry and the vibe was cool. We, (mid twenty somethings), ordered some cocktails and apps before the night really got started. We noticed when we arrived around 8pm, it seemed like it was going to be a dud, but more and more people kept showing up - and the music got better as the night went on. The bartenders were friendly and charismatic, (they do a little dance for you as they prepare your drinks), and the crowd is generally of the younger kind. If you are looking for a unique experience in RVA that heavily resembles the Miami house scene, this would be it. Just a pro tip: I would pregame before arriving as the drink prices are not college kid friendly, but I would say they are worth the price. The quality and ambiance helped me understand why they were priced that way, but again, this is RVA and not Miami. So just keep that in mind. DONT TIP!!! Went for a show here (now called Lohso) and a friend informed me they auto grad on drinks. When I asked the bartender, she verbatim said "dont tell anyone that, thats how I make my money". I also work as a bartender and I would NEVER try to cheat people into tipping 40%. Well the answer is the jungle room, this is why either my friends or I will ever go back there. Are used to be a pretty decent Thai restaurant, we were kind of excited to see what this new place might have to offer but then weren't let in. Can't wait to see what's next at this location, They obviously don't want to be in business turning away prospective customers like they do. Cool little spot in the back of Sabai. Great bartender/drinks. Chill atmosphere, but not music they play on the radio... stuff I've never heard of. Limited food menu. If you want a full menu, go to Sabai. Not much parking, so it's probably best to Lyft there. read more

The bouncer at this location placed his hands around several women's waists to yell at them to move them out the way. He shouldn't be grabbing people inappropriately. He argued with other bouncers that clearly didn't approve of his behavior. I have been treated like this at a bar before. The jungle room is still fairly new. The tiki decor and the drinks are great. When I have gone it has been a chill atmosphere. They played techno music. Also there is a lot of comfortable seating areas. There was a cover when I went on a Saturday, $5 they took cash or Venmo. read more

The location seemed sketch on the outside, but it's very Instagram worthy inside. Tons of Tiki Decorations everywhere, but the music is abstract/instrumental. The 20% automatic gratitude charge seemed steep, but it's understandable. I recommend getting the big drinks rather than spending on the small drinks. The jungle punch is the strongest for $28. It's an expensive place for looks, but not effective for having a drinking night out. Good place for a date due to darkness and drink appeal. read more

If I could give this place half a star I would. The bartenders are completely rude and beyond that they ignore people at the bar waited nearly 15 minutes just for a drink and they weren't even busy. Love the atmosphere of the jungle room and the vibe, but after covid this place changed and not in a good way. I went back for a friends birthday and it was a group of about 10 of us. It's a cover charge after 9pm which was only $5.00, but the drinks and food are way over priced. It's a dress code for guys, but the bartenders don't seem to go by it. A couple of guys I was with had to go home and change into closed toed shoes while a bartender with huge gages and greasy hair served us our drinks, kind of confusing. Good concept, terrible execution. It's like strolling through the gauntlet of disappointment. Starting at the door, the guy who operates the entrance acts like he doesn't want anyone to enter and is totally mad you showed up. After paying him you might think a doorman would open the door. Nope, you'll receive a verbal "get out of my personal space". When you get to the bar you might think you found relief, but after you receive your $20 drink you think the comfort won't last long given the 8oz drink you need to suck down quickly to get over the first 5 minutes just went down too fast. As you look around and take in the atmosphere you may find there are some great things going on..the DJ is decent and the customers are fun. But then you have to order another $20 drink. While you wait for your 8oz 'island drink' you notice all the 'jungle' is, is dollar tree decorations. But no bother, it's dark and you know they are at least trying. But after being sold that cup of salvation you might be surprised by the sight and sound of the doorman yelling at everyone to GTFO. At this point don't think about drinking your drink, you are now witnessing him grab people and push them to the exit.
