We ordered the pot stickers, stir-fried green beans, BBQ pork bao buns, spicy popcorn chicken, and soup dumplings, and honestly, there wasn't much to complain about! The spicy popcorn chicken was delightfully crispy and paired perfectly with the chili crisp sauce. I also loved that they had several sauces already on the table: dumpling sauce, soy sauce, and sesame oil, so you can customize each bite. The stir-fried green beans had a slightly sweet brown sugar flavor, and the dried Thai chilis they were fried with added a nice layer of flavor and just the right amount of heat. The soup dumplings were good, as were the BBQ pork bao buns, but my favorite of everything we ordered was definitely the pot stickers. You could really tell these were made with fresh wonton wrappers rather than the frozen, mass-produced ones you often find in grocery stores. They had that perfect combination of crispiness on the bottom while remaining soft around the sides. I dined on a Tuesday around 1pm. Restaurant was packed. Staff is extremely friendly. I ordered the tooth pick beef entree with steamed rice and a Diet Coke. Food arrived within 10 minutes. The beef entree was deliciously flavored however there are way too many chopped up (hard) red peppers and oil. I separated all the chopped up red peppers and only ate the beef. The dish is rather heavy bc of the oil it's cooked it. It's definitely a dish you want to eat with lots of fresh vegetables. I will return to the other items. Dim sum looks great! They were just okay compared to when I had them from their food truck. Not as much 'soup' and they were a little dry although the flavor was good. I especially appreciate the flavors of the pork filling. The BBQ Pork Buns were light, fluffy and sweetly delicious. Unfortunately the Lamb skewers were tough, gristly and dry, although the flavor was good. Your condiments of hot chili oil, vinegar, dipping sauce & soy sauce are in a convenient caddy on the table. This spot is so unassuming from the outside. It is spacious, clean, organized and simply gorgeous inside. The service is phenomenal. As soon as we walked in, we were greeted warmly and were eventually seated and handed the menu. The person who took our order was very patient with us in answering our questions as this was our first time here. I first tried Jun BBQ at the farmers market and was excited to hear they finally opened a physical location -- and I'm so glad they did. The sit-down experience is completely different (in the best way possible). We ordered the soup dumplings, pork green beans, and potstickers, and every dish was extremely tasty and well made. Even though there isn't a lot of seating, it is absolutely worth the wait if you need to hold out for a table. The portions are very generous -- easily enough for up to three people. Doesn't stop getting better. Jun BBQ is definitely in the top 5 restaurants in Bakersfield. Unique and there's no other restaurant like it in at least a 50 mile radius. The menu just keeps getting bigger and bigger. The amount of flavor in these dishes are just so overwhelming, each bite is a slap in the face. She was the cherry on top of dinning experience, she was extremely sweet and patient while we looked over our menus. The restaurant was very cute and I appreciated the murals and the background music. I had really high expectations as I have ate their food from farmers market. However, I was disappointed. We ordered the potstickers and pork soup dumplings and that was average. We also ordered the steamed bbq buns and they were lacking stuffing, so just okay. My Family has been in the Chinese Resturant Business in San Francisco China Town since a little after 1860. My Family came to America in 1860, but could not become US Citizens until after the Ark Case Law of the SCOTUS in 1898. My Grandfather was the First allowed American born Chinese in 1905 and a Engineer who became a CBI Flying Tiger AVG Pilot in 1938. Originally, he was stationed after during ROTC at Fort Mason as a Segent and upon Graduation from UC Berkeley at the Capanile school of Engineering to 2nd Lieutenant and for a short time was under Medal of Honor winner Major Douglas McArthur during or just before McArthur's transfered from the 3rd Engineering Battlaion to deploy into the 42nd Infanty and skipped Lt. Col. and went straight to become a Col., McArtur and went to the US controlled Philippines that was around 1911-1914 to do this. McArthur was a West Point graduate of Engineering and went into Infantry? It was around this time China Town and Italian Town in SFO were clashing. Chinese resturants were opened and many were part of my Family's. The people posting on here with 4 or less Stars are FAKE. This place is both Clean and Authentic Szhechuan and Cantonese/Guandong Provincial foods cook in the classical ways meant as Chinese Food unadulterated. I dare say, this is better than Great Castle. I know both owners. their menus differ! there are different Chinese People in both China and India. The amount of labor to prepare Dim Sum is astronomical! The portions are fare and the owner and his wife are sweet. Both are funny and adorable with their little boy! The Chinese in Bakersfield are all sincere and this Family is no exception. Chin-Yen's owners are amazing, but I think Su retired to S. Korea where here daughter has a Chain of Chinese-Korean resturants that are Popular in S. Korea and their resturants are even used in S. Korean movies and K-Dramas. That said, the only game for Authentic Chinese food outside of any China Town or China, Taiwan, or the Asia's is "Jun's BBQ" and "The Great Castle"! Lam's is just better than Bamboo Cafe. Just OK. Everyone else...are below standards and are NOT even Chinese at all. If you want to know Chinese food, untainted history and culture then: Ching-Yen with Su is the place to go. If you want REAL Szechuan and Cantonese Chinese Food then it is Jun's BBQ and the Lau Family. If you want semi NE Chinese Food then it is Great Castle. Lam's is ok. However, he is not really DIRECT Chinese. Bamboo Chopsticks and Rice Bowl are dated and not real Chinese Food either and are considered Americanized Chinese fast Food. I hope the Mayor of Bakersfield comes in to try this place, but she is able to go anywhere with her ties and resources. Funny? Many years ago the Indian-Chinese Mayor of Bakersfield used to come to Ching-yen and talked to Su many times. However, time does not stop nor stand still. It is on the corner, a ma and pa vibe, but filled with happy customers. The young lady working cash register and table was a trooper, polite through all this chaos. In a rare exception, I will discuss each dish in detail. 1. The Spicy Beef noodle soup. It is thick, flavorful noodle, in a rich beef broth, slightly spicy, with the beef cooked for hours and melting in your mouth. An absolute winner. 2. Shrimp dumplings, well seasoned shrimp, in a light, translucent wrapping, a true classic. 3. Shui Mai, open face dumpling with pork, you can taste the pork, fat, and salt. Amazing. 5. Soup bun/soup dumplings, a juice dumpling that squirts with soup, as good as DTF. 6. Steamed spare ribs, spare ribs, with black beans, with a surprisingly generous amount of tarot. Loved every bite. 7. Chicken feet, if you know, you know. It is perfect. 8. Grilled beef skewer, tiny, juicy, super flavorful bits of beef, smothered with dry rub northwestern Chinese style, with strong middle eastern influence. 9. We had the soup -the beef tasted like it had been simmering all day. Soup dumplings had lost there soup but the filling was moist and favorably seasoned.
