Incorrect placement of the number on the sleeve

I really hate to write bad reviews, but I am so incredibly disappointed in my experience with Julia Custom Tailor. I dropped off three very expensive hockey jerseys to have custom lettering and numbering sewn on. After picking them up and bringing them home, I noticed that on one of the jerseys, the numbering on one of the sleeves was not centered to match the other. It was off center by about an inch or two. And on the second jersey, the season patch was not centered on the shoulder to be in line with the sleeve number. Photos attached for reference. The first photo is of the correct sleeve, the second and third are the incorrect placements. I called immediately and brought it back in to be fixed. Julia told me no problem. Fast forward about 30 minutes later, I received a call from Julia telling me the number needed to stay where it was because the removal caused damage to the fabric. She sent me the last attached photo and discussed that the shoulder patch on the second jersey would also need to stay where it was to avoid damage. I could not believe what I was hearing after the insane amount of money that I paid. How in the world does a professional tailor not have the capability to remove stitching without causing damage to such expensive jerseys?? I had no choice at that point but to accept the fact that the numbering would need to stay off centered. I am so beyond upset and disappointed - these were supposed to be custom Christmas gifts and now look like fake, inauthentic jerseys that I bought for $30 on dhgate. It's a shame, because the quality of the stitching is actually quite excellent. When I asked about a refund (only partial refund mind you, since some of the other lettering and numbering I had done was correct) she said no and that I could get 20% off next time. When I asked for that in writing she said "No. I will remember." Why the heck would I return as a customer? I paid $120 for this work and it completely fell short by a mile. By reading the other reviews, my guess is that Julia will respond with some sort of excuse, claiming that she always tries her best for her customers and that she works hard. While I'm sure that's true, this outcome is still completely unacceptable. We're all human and we're not perfect, and I'm a firm believer that mistakes happen. I try to be understanding when they do. But at the end of the day, it's how you make right on those mistakes and how you grow from them. Julia does not care about making things right and does not take accountability. Take your business elsewhere.

The photos speak for themselves -- the blouse on the right is the sample I provided, while the one on the left is what was delivered to me. Despite the clear discrepancy, they refused to issue a refund and insisted on providing only store credit. I reluctantly used the credit to purchase another fabric, which now serves as nothing more than practice material at the expense of my time and money as a customer.

This was off just having a terrible experience with some shirts getting butchered by the local dry cleaner, so I wanted a more professional take. I walked in completely clueless on a whim, tactlessly not making an appointment, and even though it was Juan's lunchbreak he still immediately took the time to see me and work with me. That said... let the man eat. Don't interrupt his break! I still feel bad about it!!! About the tailoring: Juan is just That Dude. He WILL make you look better and point out ways to make the clothes better compliment your body that others don't even know about. The pricing felt extremely fair and not at all like I was being overcharged for the amount and quality of work being done. Not only that, Juan did me a solid by getting the alterations done in-time with a big move out of state. Last minute, off of a random walk-in, and brother still treated me like I was a long time regular. And matter of fact, even though I'm going to be living down south I WILL still be getting my nicest clothing tailored by Juan. That's what his work is worth to me. 10/10 will be making sure I get my nephews' first suits tailored by him too

Head tailor Juan Cuello is exceptionally skilled and relentlessly professional--he simply won't stop until the fit is perfect. Over the past six years, I've brought him around a dozen off-the-rack suits, and he has consistently transformed them to look and feel like high-end made-to-measure pieces. The difference in drape, balance, and overall silhouette is remarkable. I've used other tailors for alterations, but none come close to Juan's level of precision, craftsmanship, and attention to detail. He takes real pride in his work, and it shows in every finished garment. Juan is truly one of a kind.

I've lost a significant amount of weight over the past 3 months & needed to have 3 2-piece suits taken in. He had me try on all 3 & was really thorough with the measurements (so I thought anyway). His initial estimate was $780.00, $740.00 if I paid cash. In my mind at the time I thought this was still pretty good considering 3 new 2-piece suits of the same brand would cost me around $1500. $1200.00 if they were on sale. He asked when I wanted them back. I left that up to him because I wanted him to not be rushed so he can do a thoroughy good job on them. He gave me a pick-up of about a week & a half. This is fine for me. I came to pick them up & I gave him my CC to swipe & charge. I somehow don't need to provide a pin or sign anything & he gives me a copy of the CC transaction receipt wrapped around my card & I didn't think anything of it. When I got home & dug into my wallet to unwrap the receipt from my card so I could put back my card where I always place it I see he charged me $813.00. This put things into a whole new perspective for me. Where did this extra $33.00 come from? Tailors in NYC don't charge sales tax. Then I actually did the math. That's an average of $271.00 a suit. Mind you he's not adding fabric to make it larger. If anything he's decreasing the amount to make it a smaller fit. This & also allowing a week & half's time. This wasn't like a 72 hour time limit. This was a full 10 days. Baffling. I'm now finding little attention to details he missed. One pairs of pants the waist is way tighter than the other two. Almost to the point of not fitting me. One of the jackets is clearly not taken in enough, dare I say, if at all. Another pair of pants a belt loop is half attached so it's just flip flopping around. I just wanted these suits to be taken in because I was tired of looking like MC Hammer at work & I wasn't really thinking how much it could cost. Now that I'm seeing things more clearly & with some of the imperfections I'm finding, I just think $271 for alterations on a 2-piece suit in 10 days time is exorbitantly high when I can just buy a brand new one at Macy's for $400 - $500. I get he's on the UES & he needs to make rent on his space, but....really?
