Conveniently located on the Lindbergh edge of Concord Plaza, where Ruma's deli was years ago, this cafe has a great locally run vibe. At least one owner was on hand, working and speaking pleasantly to the customers. This was my first visit so I was unfamiliar with the menu and unfortunately, I did not have my phone with me. I say unfortunately because the menu is on the wall 10 ft behind the high glass case, I am short and had just had eye surgery so I could not make out the descriptions, my husband carries a flip phone, of no use for internet. I asked the young man at the counter for a to go menu so I could make an informed choice but they don't have them. Yikes. He referred me to the website but when I admitted that I had mistakenly left my phone, he lost interest and didn't offer to help. I had my husband read some of the things to me but unfortunately we were unfamiliar with some of the ingredients. One of the owners came out and I asked him for assistance and he helped me pick out 2 things as well as steering me away from something that was more than I could eat by myself. He was very nice, informative and shared some of the restaurant background with me. We ordered a Falafel sandwich and a Stuffed flatbread for my husband. The ingredients were high quality, the pita for the sandwiches was so fresh and yummy. I could not taste any unnatural preservatives. Each of the items were huge! We could not finish either of them and made 2 meals from them. The Falafel pieces were about the size of a Stanley prune, which may or may not be too large for some people. Although, I come from a Balkan background, I did not know of this gem. My American best friend introduced me to this place on a random Friday afternoon. It was quickly apparent to me, I was the only person in South County not getting food here on my Fridays! Even though, they were quite packed, the service was quick and all of the tables were clean! One thing I would keep in mind for the future is their larger serving sizes, but I don't mean that in a negative way, more in a "I need to save more space in my stomach before this meal next time" kind of way. Awful! Expensive! Gyro was thinly sliced beef in a very tough pi'a bread. Not the traditional lamb/beef mix! Almost inedible! Sandwich was small without tomatoes or lettuce. It did have parsley at the opening but not lettuce. We ordered it for takeout and ate 5 minutes later. We also ordered baklava and an apple dessert in a roll with nuts. They were wet, and awful. We ended up throwing them away. Won't ever go there again. read more

I had never eaten Mediterranean food before. This was some of the best food I've had in a long time. It was inexpensive. Honestly probably underpriced for the portion sizes. This place is oh so VERY good. Amazing house made pita, tons of flavor, could eat just the pita and be quite happy. It's so soft on the inside. Both times I have been I had the stew. It is fantastic. It's a nice big serving with a large piece of fresh pita. I cant even eat American style stew now cuz this beats the pants off it. I had the Pide, once again the dough is house made, very good. I love spicy but I couldnt even bring myself to use the spicy sauce on the side because it was so good even without it. The berliner was just as good as everything else I've tried, once again the spicy sauce was on here that gave it an awesome zing. Meat was flavorful, and bread was housemade and once again fantastic. My goal is try to everything on the menu because so far I haven't had one bad thing here. Ordered carry out and dined in several times. Quality of the food is superior. Spices are mouthwatering, meat is top grade, and vegetables are super fresh. Their bread is DELICIOUS. Dishes I've had include Mediterranean salad w/grilled chicken, hummus, falafel salad, the Berliner, and cabbage and beef stew. My children have ordered the meat and cheese pies and raved. The owner and team members are friendly and efficient. My order is always there when I arrive at the allotted time, and service was great when dining in for lunch. Dinner on the weekends gets busy and crowded so I avoid dining in and place my carry out order in the afternoon. read more

I was really craving J's Pitaria and the Gravois location wasn't open so I went to check out their new location in the Concord Plaza. First of all the Ustipci is a MUST with kajmak. Who doesn't love fried bread and buttery cheesy goodness? Then you can't go wrong with the pita. I got the meat variety this time but I actually think I prefer their spinach pita. I grew up on a Mediterranean island, and it is rare to find a place in St Louis that can do a real gyro. Their gyro beef is layered like it should be and not some pressed meat "thing." I also ate the cheesesteak sandwich on a second visit, which was terrific. The bread, steak, and generous amount of cheese was something that will have me going back regularly. read more

My daughter, friend, and I were all looking for a new place to try (I had never had Mediterranean food before) and we decided to try J's Pitaria! It was SO CLEAN! I walked inside and was met with so many delicious smells. I ordered a whole salad, some dessert and some stuffed pita bread. I honestly wish I remembered what the salad I ordered was called but I'll post a picture. Everything was fresh, and tasted phenomenal!! My daughter who is 4 really loved the food, and friendly atmosphere as well. The staff were incredibly kind. One of the owners was constantly cleaning and making room for everyone. At the end I asked for a box and some tzatziki's sauce to go, knowing it was homemade he still put some in for me which was very kind. You can really tell the owners take a lot of pride in not only their business but their food, and I will be recommending this lovely place to everyone!
