I have been trying to find a new donut shop since i moved to plano. I was used to going to the same donut shop for 20 years. Tried this place out yesterday morning after a coworker recommended it to me. I was very pleased. I am a fan of mom and pop donut shops over your large chain stores. The donuts taste better in my opinion. I don't care about things like fancy coffee or seasonal selections. It's a donut shop and that's what I'm there for, not the extra stuff. Had the regular glazed which were great. Light and fluffy with a good sweet glaze. They are close to melt in your mouth soft. I also tried the chocolate frosted cake donuts. I was very surprised with this one. I'm used to a more dense cake donut. These were still dense but very soft. I rather liked that. The chocolate frosting was good. Not very sweet which is the way I like it because it lets the sweetness of the cake do all the sweetening. Very tasty. I also got my girlfriend a regular chocolate frosted donut and a cinnamon sugar twist donut. She liked them both. I plan to come back here many times. read more

I work the night shift, and I don't know what it is about 7 am that just makes me crave a jalapeño cheese kolache and a warm glazed donut. No flair, just a decadent, original, melt-in-your-mouth type of craving. I believe each family owned donut shop is a hit or miss. This family is doing it right! They are always smiling and extremely friendly (& at 7 in the morning ... how?! ). I love that they always throw in a few extra donut holes, too. Their donuts are light and airy, so if you're into the dense, cakey crap, don't bother. Their jalapeño cheese kolaches are tasty and are AMAZING when warmed up. I have nothing but great things to say about the service, which was friendly and generous (she gave me a couple of handfuls of donut holes when I got a box), but I'm very mixed about the food. There were a few differently shaped donuts but with no labels and not completely able to understand the person working behind the counter I didn't try them. It's not often that I eat donuts but when I'm in the mood, J's Donuts is convenient for my commute into the office. It's a standard local donut shop that offers a variety of donut flavors as well as kolaches. They also have refrigerator cases filled with juices, milk, water etc. Typically there are a few people in line but they move the line fairly quickly and they keep the cases stocked well with items to choose from. I know yelp doesn't let us award half stars but in fairness this place is really a three and half star. Three is too low for the friendliness and quality but honestly 4 feels too high Anyway.. This is really close to my work so it's easy to stop by. The ladies that run the shop are Asian and as already mentioned their English isn't perfect but it doesn't matter at all. They are friendly and really all you have to do is point into the counter at what you want. I usually just get the cheese spicy kolaches which are a little different from the traditional ones as these have the jalapeño and cheese within the sausage (rather than between the sausage and bun..which I prefer). I've also tried the eclair and like these as they will add the inside cream right there when you buy it. My biggest complaint is that they have a generic coffee machine and and fridge of cold drinks. I would stop more often if their coffee was more special. So all in all for a local friendly kolaches/donut place this one is worth a visit read more

These donuts are pretty standard, but they have a large selection to choose from. Even at 12pm they still had some good options, and the donuts still tasted pretty fresh. I'm not really an apple fritter person, but I liked their's because it wasn't over cooked and crunchy like some other places. I have been getting my Donuts from J's for 8 years now. They have the best donuts in my opinion. There is a dunkin donuts down the road and their donuts taste stale compared to J's. Everytimr i go to J's they know me by name and know my order. (Yes im a frequest customer and im not fat shut up.) they even put the donuts that might be alittle cold in the microwave for a few seconds to warm them up. Thats quality service. read more
