My wife and I both tried J's Cafe for the first time last night. We are really particular about Asian food, and we both loved our food. She had the sesame chicken and I had chicken chow fun. The serving sizes are gargantuan and the prices extremely reasonable. We got takeout, but the restaurant looked very clean when I picked up our dinner. The young lady who took our order and who I think was one of the family members was incredibly friendly. This is the type of small business that I love to support. read more

So for some reason my previous review of this place was removed for violating Terms? Not sure how I did that since it was a 5-star review I stood behind for 3 years. I've loved and ordered from J's almost weekly since 2011 or very early 2012. I've spent a ton of money there. But over the last several months the quality has gone dramatically downhill. The final straw was the last time I ordered. I used to love the rare steak pho but I cannot eat beef anymore so I ordered it with grilled chicken instead. They charged me $3 extra!!! Chicken is much cheaper than steak why are you charging me??? Not only that, the chicken wasn't grilled and was so rubbery I couldn't chew it. The broth was just off and had too much oil and floaties. The consistency isn't there in the garnish. Sometimes you get green onion sometimes not. The basil is sometimes very wilted or crinkly. I ended up trashing my whole, $18 pho. Huge sadness J's. Please re-evaluate and come back to the amazing, yummy, high quality, fresh place you were. Let me know when. read more

The restaurant smells like nail salon chemicals. There are no flavors other than MSG. My head is swimming. Scratch that, the General Tzao's chicken is MSG and sugar. The beef and broccoli is MSG and.... Well, just MSG. Hot n' sour soup? You guessed it, MSG. Not even a trace of garlic or onion or pepper or anything. So why 2 stars? Hmmm... They were friendly, I didn't get food poisoning, and the massive hit of MSG is making me mildly euphoric, thus generous with the stars. read more

Very pleasantly surprised! I am from New York City so I was nervous to try Chinese food out here. I got the veggie chow fun. It was delicious. Also, it included all normal looking veggies as opposed to some of the unidentifiable ones that might appear in some Chinese restaurants. One more thing, the portions are huge. In 2012, I wrote a top notch review and this was our dedicated Chinese restaurant. Unfortunately, I believe the place was either sold or has a new chef this past year. It has been disappointing every time we order there. The soups used to be rich and full of flavor, now it is watery and sub par. The Szechaun beef is a different recipe altogether and again, not at all what it was. The sauces to several of the dishes are weaker and average at best. My wife and I moved nearby a few years ago and our first couple orders were good. Last few times we've tried we threw most of it out. Entrees consisting of more random vegetables than meat and served with a flavorless sauce. Pot stickers of the doughy, tasteless variety. Don't know what changed, but don't bother. read more

We fell in love with J's Cafe 4 years ago when we moved to North Denver. We've tried a few other places and this 1 is outstanding in comparison! We usually get delivery and the service time is great, the food is always hot and we are always impressed. Our favorite dish is the Sesame Chicken! It's light and crispy, perfect. I am EXTREMELY picky when it comes to Chinese food. We have been going to J's for years now because they are extremely friendly, the food is CONSISTENTLY delicious and fresh and the prices are great. We love J's! plus they deliver! : ) Our personal favorites are the beef fried rice, sesame chicken, sweet and sour chicken, chicken and vegetables, veggie egg foo young & the egg rolls. AMAZING TAKEOUT! If you're looking for fresh vegetables, tender but not overcooked premium meats, and flavorful but not overbearing sauces, you have to try J's Cafe. Like another reviewer said, we had pretty much given up on finding good Chinese food anywhere nearby. Then J's opened and I too was skeptical of a strip mall restaurant. Trust me -- have no fear!! We tried it once and were completely blown away. The Sesame chicken is light and crispy with a spicy kick, and the Chicken with Vegetables is perfectly sauced, with white meat chicken -- lots of it -- and a good mix of vegetables. My Mother-In-Law is a big fan of Egg Foo Young (how it's spelled on their menu) and she always enjoys J's version with a fluffy egg pancake, and plenty for leftovers. I also judge a restaurant by their fried rice -- it's usually my litmus test -- and J's beef fried rice does not disappoint. J's has a dining room that is small and clean but not a lot of atmosphere so I'd recommend takeout if you live nearby, and they deliver. They always package the takeout expertly so it'll stay hot and leak-free. All in all, you won't be disappointed. We've been there at least 20 times and the food is consistent, reasonably priced, and service quick. It definitely rates 5 stars in my book! read more

Five stars becaue this is as good as it gets with Chinese take-out! I am only commenting on the delivery as I have never been to the actual establishment. I know it is in a strip mall. I have ordered chinese take-out for years and years all over the country (I have moved around a bit). We usually order, low-mein, sesame chicken or general tso's and most chinese take-out tastes exactly the same. J's is the only take-out we have ordered where the sesame or general tso's chicken is still crispy even though it's drenched in sauce. That tells me that the food is cooked as it is ordered and I have an idea that most fast food chinese is cooked up in bulk and it probably sits in a pan for who knows how long until it gets to your door. Everything we have ever ordered here is good....chicken wings, dumplings, soups, fried rice, egg rolls...Not one bad thing to say about this place. read more

Main take away from this place it has just about the best Asian cuisine you can in the area. I got the orange chicken and was surprised to see a very healthy portion. It was awesome. Im very tough to please with regards to Chinese Cuisine , but the food we had delivered was very hot, fresh tasting and a really good balance of meat to veggie ratio. I had the Cashew Shrimp lunch portion and found 7 good sized shrimp in it, good sauce flavor, nice aromatic aromas. The place is near work so the delivery time at lunch was no more than maybe 20 minutes. This will be my Go To Chinese place no from here on out. Thank you for a really great first visit. Not once did someone come and apologize for the wait or explain what was taking so long I would expect more from a place that charges so much. SKIP this food..All I can say is bland. VERY Americanized, no soul, no flavor "Asian food". We went in ate, a group of 6 people. We all ordered different items ( Sesame chicken, triple meat in garlic sauce, kung pao, shrimp in garlic, a rice bowl, and happy family) . Each item was bland, not made correctly at all and expensive. I would suggest anywhere in the city before this place. Kind of a waste of money, the food is poor quality, thrown together. Expect the Unexpected: This place is actually really good! After eating here numerous times, we finally decided to write a long overdue Yelp review. Unfortunately, I was not able to take pictures of what we ordered, but trust me - the dishes of food were worthy. This time, we ordered the panang curry. We asked if we needed to order extra vegetables for it and were assured it wouldn't be necessary. The server was right! When the panang arrived, it was in a large bowl, with plenty of veggies: carrot, broccoli, cabbage, onion, snow pea pods, red bell peppers. The chicken in it was plentiful, as was the coconut sauce. In fact, not only was it spiced "just right," but what we noticed was the sauce never congealed into a mess - nor did it absorb into other things. This assured each bite was flavorful, colorful, and delicious! We also ordered something on the menu simply called "basil chicken." Not knowing what to expect, but thinking it would compliment the panang, it arrived with plenty of vegetables too! In among the veggies previously mentioned with the panang, this one included green bell peppers, garlic, and whole stems and leaves of fresh basil. This made the light brown gravy that came with it very flavorful - very Thai tasting, and loaded with tasty goodness. These items were ordered from the menu, where - for a mere $19.95, you can choose ANY two menu entrees - inlcuding choice of rice, plus choose a soup (we always get the hot-n-sour because it tastes so good), plus two egg rolls and two crab/cheese wontons. As if this weren't worthy enough of the price, it helps return customers when the food is so gosh-darn good! The server was polite and very friendly - smiled and answered questions - and worked quickly to get things we asked for: serving spoons so we could share the entrees, boba tea as a pour-over iced drink rather than as a smoothie, extra hot mustard for the egg rolls, etc. The menu boasts a vast array of Asian dishes, including Chinese, Vietnamese, and Thai food. As for last week's review of Tommy's Thai restaurant in Denver as a major disappointment (that place we utterly terrible!), J's Cafe has renewed my faith in ever finding really good Thai locally. Who'd of thought it would be at this place in an Arvada strip mall? The only drawback about the place is that they do A LOT of takeout business. That phone is ringing constantly - which means our server had to be on the phone much of the time, when she could have been working the dining room. Not her fault - but management needs to understand that one person cannot do everything and, occasionally, you need to get up out of the very booth you are sitting in, and help more. Every time we've come, there has been management sitting in the booth closest to the kitchen not doing much to be of help. That's the only head-scratcher to this wonderful Asian eatery in Arvada. The food was pretty average reasonably good for the price paid. But I will never go back there as it fell far short of both my and my wife's standard for cleaniness - the amount of dirt food crumbs and who knows what else on the floor and along the wall was just frightening and the table and seats themselves weren't exactly the cleanest. We usually order from the excellent Thai restaurant nearby, but they were not answering the phone yesterday. We decided to try J's because we got their brochure in the mail. I ordered the Thai fried rice with shrimp. Wow! One order was enough for two meals. The food was tasty and the pineapple added a little zing. This was the first time I tried Thai fried rice and I am sure it will become a regular order for me. My husband picked up the order and described the cafe as "clean with friendly staff". We literally eat at this place muliplte times a week both take-out, delivery and in the restaurant. You can't beat the value at lunch or when you dont want to make dinner. Soup is the only reason to lose a star, the crab wontons, sesame and orange chicken and the shrimp fried rice are always on point. I love the staff the younger ones are so kind and the other lady grows on you after a while and once even gave me free coconut cake. If your in the neighborhood i highly reconmmend. read more
