Quick hit review! We came here on. Saturday at 3pm and had the place to Ourselves which was really nice. Fast service. Jasmine tea has such a nice floral smell and taste. Perfect for a sunny spring afternoon. We had the cashew chicken and Szechuan chicken. Both had big portions and tasted so fresh. I love the roasted cashews as they add an additional hint of something special. The crab wontons, although serviceable, are not their strong suit. They were a 3/5. The fried rice is ok and a big portion for two. Way more than we would ever eat. The service was awesome and that's what will bring me back to try something different next trip. read more

So the weather was awful and I didn't feel like cooking. This place is close by and sends us menus so we thought we would try it. They make it easy to order on line and it didn't take too long for it to arrive. I got sesame tofu with extra veggies and my husband ordered beef lo mein and crab wontons. While the service was good the food was disappointing. I ordered extra veggies and there were barely any veggies in the whole dish. If I wouldn't have ordered extra I don't think I would have gotten any. It had lots of tofu and sauce but so much sauce the tofu was very soggy. My husband ate his food but also found it rather disappointing. I don't think we would order from here again. read more

I've been going to this restaurant since I was a child. it used to be owned and operated by a lovely lady, who suffered several cases of cancer, while still working to support her family and business. but ultimately she lost her battle, and the restaurant is now carried on by her children. reading some of these reviews about people crying over nonsense truly infuriates me. as a tv chef, small business owner, and published chef myself featured on food network and the Martha Stewart show- I can tell you, you won't find better American Chinese food in Denver if you try. I went to this restaurant with my family and we ordered the family style meal which contained sweet and sour pork, sesame chicken, a bowl of fried rice and chicken and vegetables. So, so underrated. I've been coming to New Canton for years, the location is extremely unsuspecting and located next to a gun shop, so from initial impressions, you wouldn't expect the kind of fresh, tasty food hidden within. They also do delivery which is definitely our vice from time to time. I've tried many things on the menu, but I'd like to just point out some of my favorite dishes. First, you need to understand the difference between breaded chicken and just plain chicken, there are varying dishes here that uses one or the other, some very successful, some less so. I will say that the crispiness of stuff like their sesame chicken or general tsos is great when eaten on the spot, they usually fresh fry alot of their food, so when it comes out, it's fresh, crispy and delicious. If you get delivery, don't get the breaded chicken. It's just a bad idea as it gets soggy just purely due to its composition. The plain chicken dishes are also very good, albeit slightly lacking in the meat department. No matter, you can ask for additional meat and they'll ask you how much more you'd like to pay, which makes it very easy for you to get a larger serving of one of their dishes for two people. My favourites are definitely the garlic chicken and kung pao, delicious, flavorful sauces that doesn't taste EXTREMELY sweet, like alot of places do - you can't completely forgo the sweetness though, as it's all american asian food. You can also ask for varying spice levels, but from what I've seen, the food here doesn't really get very spicy. The service can be weird at times, I think it's gotten better over the years, but it has never bothered me. It seems to bother some people because it's not your typical white glove treatment in most modern establishments, but they get the job done. Also, the difference in prices online is not their fault (based on other reviews), it's really just a site that they can't get access to to change the information. The prices are low, especially if you don't get a full serving dish each, both me and my husband are huge eaters, and a single meal is more than enough to fill us up. They fry their cheese wontons TO ORDER, which doesn't sound like much, but when compared to other chinese places, you really can't quite beat the texture and molteny goodness of freshly fried wontons. The hot and sour is also great - be sure to ask for some white pepper as it goes so well together! Overall, you can judge this based on unrealistically high standards, but it's a small, unsuspecting chinese food place that's modest and fresh. You can't ask for more especially for their price point. Highly recommend. read more

Honestly I was really hopeful for this place and drove 20 minutes from home just to try it because I haven't found a sit down Chinese place here in CO that serves good General Tso (minimal breading, crispy, white meat) and Pork Fried Rice...so I came and I ordered Sesame Chicken (waitress said it's equivalent to General Tso just a different sauce) and Pork Fried Rice...and it was just a total let down. So sad. 2 stars since it was a nice clean ambience and fast service and crispy fortune cookie. I also ordered Jasmine tea expecting it to be flavorful like the one at Tea Garden, but it honestly tasted like the free tea most Chinese places give you except here I had to pay a $1. Ugh. My search for a decent sit down Chinese restaurant nearby continues. And FYI the Pork Fried Rice (entree) is basically the same as the fried rice that comes with your protein entree except it has egg and the BBQ pork...not impressed :( $24 to take home rice that I will be fixing up at home. As far as Chinese takeout is concerned, I think most of them deserve 3 stars. I mean, that's what it's supposed to be. Generic, salty, greasy deliciousness. That said, I always hesitate to try a restaurant that's rated 3 stars on Yelp, so I'm giving these guys 4. We called in an order around 7:45pm in the evening, and the woman said it would be ready in 15 minutes. Our order was done on time, and we were home digging in 20 minutes later. Egg drop soup: Eh...honestly, I've had better. Next time, I'll try the wonton. This was the only thing that wasn't awesome. Cashew chicken: They do NOT skimp on the cashews. Plenty of the good stuff, and no filler. The sauce was tasty. Exceeded expectations. General Tso's Chicken: Probably my favorite out of the two chicken dishes. Perfect texture and tang. Paired well with fried rice. Fried rice: I ate more of this than anything else. I still have some in the fridge. BRB...gonna go eat it. read more

The good: They're cheap. $18 including tip got me Shrimp with Garlic Sauce, Chicken Curry, white rice, fried rice, 2 wontons, 2 egg rolls and hot & sour soup. The bad: The food. I was pretty sure Thai Basil has cornered the market on bad hot & sour soup. I was wrong. Bleh. The shrimp with garlic sauce & wontons were ok. But, the chicken curry was not. Also, I did not know it was possible to make bland fried rice. Honestly, if Panda delivered, I would order from there over this place. But, I can't say that in my laziness I won't call again. We called and they claim to not have got our online order but took our order over the phone. When we stated we even got a code the woman was dismissive. It's really hard to find good Chinese-American food in Wheat Ridge, but upon stumbling across this small family owned restaurant, I can't imagine getting my Chinese fix anywhere else! The two dishes I ordered were the Sesame Chicken and the Chicken Pad Thai pictured below. Both were delicious and savory, although the Pad Thai has a unique twist compared to the dish at an actual Thai restaurant. I could tell that the meat was high quality, and so was the service! CUSTOMER BEWARE: Been eating at this restaurant for 30+ years, Food has always been good to very good, however after the owner passed way two years ago her son has been the person at the front counter taking to go orders. Over the past few years his customer has gone from zero to in to the toilet. A few weeks ago, I called for a to go order. That day he was extra rude and condescending over the phone. When I arrived, the son was his usual rude self. This time I decided to let him know how rude he is and how disappointed his mother would be with the way he treated her customers. I also reminded him about the other fine Chinese restaurants in the area that would appreciate my business with smile. Three weeks later I attempted to call a to go order, however their phone was not working, come to find out the son blocked my phone number. Tonight, however, we received our food and it tasted "off." Additionally, I ordered ginger chicken and it was literally a pile of slimy yellow onion, a few pieces of chicken and some green onions. So, onion. I hope you like it - a lot of it, if you order this dish. The chicken egg foo young tasted odd - some flavor that seemed weird and a little rotten. I hope we don't get sick. We are regular customers and so we called and asked if we can have something else in exchange. We are willing to give this food back - it's not tasty or good. No. We can't trade it in. Given that New Canton is an all-you-can-eat Chinese buffet in a strip mall, I wasn't walking in expecting a world culinary masterpieces. Unfortunately, my low hopes were not met. New Canton starts is buffet on the dessert side. Perhaps that's to suggest that you get your meal over with quickly, because whatever oil they used to fry almost everything on the buffet had been in their deep fryer long enough for Exxon to start exploring it. You know that taste of really bad, old, deep fryer oil, where everything has that same musty taste? That's the taste that is New Canton.
