I was part of a large group dining here and notified the server ahead of time that I have a strict whole food plant-based diet and an oil allergy. I kept my request incredibly simple: boiled or baked potatoes and steamed vegetables. Shockingly, they told me they had NO vegetables available. The server was kind enough to ask the chef if anything could be prepared for me, but after checking, she returned and said, "I'm sorry, there's nothing we can do for you." So while the rest of my party of nine ate food that was oily and overcooked, I sat there with nothing but a glass of water & a wine. The only vegetable they had was green beans, and they refused to even steam those without oil. In today's world, accommodating a basic dietary restriction with something as simple as potatoes and vegetables should not be impossible. This was my first time visiting JP's on the Wharf Restaurant. The outside atmosphere is beautiful, filled with plants and a great view of the bay. They offer outdoor seating facing the water, but it was a bit too chilly to sit outside during our visit. Inside is cozy with several tables. They don't take reservations, but our party of six only waited about 10 minutes for a table. Our waitress, Cassidy, was friendly, attentive, and made sure we had everything we needed. We started with the calamari and Yucatan shrimp appetizers, both delicious. For entrées, we ordered the Yellowfin Tuna, Crab Cake, Fish and Chips, CAB Ribeye, and the Tropical Salad with Snow Crab Clusters. My husband loved his crab cake with its crisp golden crust and flavorful crabmeat. My sister-in-law's ribeye was tender and perfectly cooked. My brother-in-law enjoyed his tuna, nicely blackened outside and raw in the middle. My niece said the fish and chips were the best she's had in a long time; crispy, light, and tasty. The beer and wine were good and paired nicely with our meals.The only downside was the water, which had a strange taste. I'd suggest the restaurant offer complimentary bottled water. Overall, everyone enjoyed their meals, and we had a wonderful dining experience. I'd definitely come back, especially when it's warmer to enjoy the outdoor seating and beautiful bay view. read more

My wife and I visit JP's routinely and the food and service are consistently good. Crab dip is amazing, and I typically get the Chesapeake Burger (cheeseburger topped with crab dip). One piece of advice: do not order water to drink. It is well water that smells like sulphur. Other than that: love this place! read more

What a great find on the Delaware shore! I sat at the bar and received excellent service from the staff. They were clearly excited and sad that the season had come to an end, but were also very eager to help. They provided some great recommendations and suggestions. The food was absolutely delicious and tasted like it was actually "homemade". The crab soup was an amazing starter and is highly recommended! I'm sure this place has a great vibe in the "on-season" but even as their season was coming to a close, this location is hard to beat. We ended up here after driving into Delaware to check off this state. We received alerts that there might be coastal flooding and we did have to cross a slightly flooded parking lot to get into the restaurant. Thankfully the water wasn't very high though. The waiter was great and really nice. The only issue was she forgot our drink orders but quickly got them once we reminded her. We started with the crab stuff balls and they were great especially with the dipping sauce. They were full of crab so you wouldn't be left unsatisfied. The snow crab clusters were also great and simple. They didn't have any extra seasoning to put on them but they honestly didn't need it. I barely needed the butter either. Very nice wharf restaurant with excellent seafood. The service was great (my daughter and I went for lunch). The problem I had with this place is that the local dive bar is also under its umbrella. On Friday night (Karaoke Night) , things can get a bit out of hand. We had rented a house very near the locations. The blue language flies, and I was actually afraid that there would be a "bar fight" of violent proportion. There is a large parking lot in front of the restaurant. There are singular cars that hang out and leave their lights on into late night hours. Other cars pull up for several minutes and drive away. Draw your own conclusions. read more

This was the most memorable restaurant experience I've ever had in my life! Not in a wonderful memory moment either! It started as soon as we walked in. Telling us the rules...If you don't have your whole party there they will not seat you. We had friends join us 5 mins later, and the waitress literally said to my friend, "I will not serve you!" They had to sit at another table, and we had room at our table for them. It made no sense, and it didn't stop there. We had teenagers with us as well that sat at the table behind us, and they had to have a different server. The servers were so rude! I will never go back there! I enjoyed the food at JP's. I got the fish and chips and my son ordered the crab balls and bacon wrapped scallops. The crab balls were good. The fish was nice and flaky and moist. The scallops were very tasty. They were plated on a delicious berry jam. We had great service with Kat taking care of us. The ambiance on the water was relaxing and pretty. After dinner we let the hostess know that we wanted ice cream and she met us at the window to serve us. When I'm back in Delaware I'll be sure to visit JP's Wharf for a nice seafood meal. read more

We came here for a Saturday lunch in July. We got seated right against the rail on the deck and ordered fried fish and fried oyster sandwiches. The food was fine but the real draw here is the view. You can sit on the deck, enjoy the sunshine, and watch the boats go up and down the river. Do remember that the water and fountain drinks have a sulfuric taste from what I'm assuming is well water so keep that in mind when ordering. We will come back during strawberry season to try the famous strawberry pie. read more

Then one server came back to give a customer something and still did not acknowledge us. So we left and we will never come back!!!!! Loved this unpretentious place on the water. There are several seating areas including inside, outside, and a large bar area. The menu specialized in seafood. 17 year old and I both ordered salads with crab cakes and the crab cakes were delicious. We were still a bit hungry so we ordered some fish dip which was excellent. Can't say enough about the hard working staff that were busting their tails. We were there with a large party of teens and adults. They could not seat us together due to Covid restrictions but worked so hard to seat and serve all of us in a reasonable amount of time. Great place for families and groups! read more

Buck a shuck day.... awesome. The fact they were so busy that we waited 15 minutes to order... not great. The drinks afterwards... pretty darn good. The food itself was fresh and easy to tell, the restaurant was very cute and a good nestled spot by the beach, an easy walk after dinner. Waitress was very friendly and helpful in selection of a cocktail and she suggested the perfect grapefruit lime tequila drink for me after asking a few questions. I had the appetizer special as my lunch and it is amazing ... messy to eat but well worth it ... the chili lime sauce on the steamed shrimp is extremely flavorful and the cilantro tops it off. The shrimp were steamed perfectly and the added touch of toasted French bread couldn't have been any better. I forgot to take photos of desserts but the Key lime pie I had was very good and tasted home made. The Smith Island coconut cake was something to behold and scrumptious and definitely large enough to share. Spending a little time in Southern Delaware and decide to try JPs. It's a laid back place on the water in a quirky little town. It's so unpretentious. Just what I needed after a long work week. The staff is super friendly and the food was good. We sat on the back deck. The weather was pleasant and there was a nice breeze. I chose the fish and chips. The fish was really good. Big nuggets of fresh cod fish. The fries were just ok. Prices were reasonable. We stopped at the ice cream window on the way out. The small is a double scoop and is more than enough for two people. I will try and keep this short, if you don't want to read, let me get this across... skip to the last paragraph and DO NOT GO HERE!! It is a pretty location and you will get decent food, but it is not worth it. I feel the only way that this business stays afloat is because of the location. The service received at this establishment was the WORST that I've ever had. I am 50+ years and have been a server off and on since age 13. I try to give grace to anyone in the service industry and especially to servers, but this place made me feel completely deceived and was treated horribly. We waited for 1 1/2 hours and yet when arrived saw many empty tables. When we noticed other people waiting would go and ask how much longer, they got seated immediately after. So I did the same and was told there were four parties ahead of us...really? Guess what, we got seated about five minutes later! After getting to our table, we watched as two other tables sat down and were waited on before us. When our server finally showed up, we had been sitting there for 20 minutes at the very least, so now we are invested two hours. The server never apologized, even though we were trying to be polite but clearly said that we were upset. We had burgers and they were good and hot (keep the kitchen staff-they know what their doing!) It took forever to get drink refills and our check. I felt like we were being forgotten (maybe because we were a smaller party?) When the check finally came, my husband went to the cashier to pay. She asked how everything was and he said not good and this was totally ignored by her. Please read the other negative reviews here, you will see others have had very similar experiences like mine. If you end up on Bowers Beach, eat at the food truck next door or just skip on to the next town. read more

So we went back and again the food was delicious. One thing that surprised me is that they do not filter their water. Tasted of well water with a distinctive, sulfur smell and flavor. It was even the ice when I ordered a diet Pepsi, It had the same smell to it. So, it begs to ask, are they using the same water to cook with?
