Lots of sushi, but we did the stir fry selections, which were good. This place has a Korean underpinning, and the sauces reflected that variety of flavors. I had the salmon, while my dinner guest had the calamari, both selected for "spicy". They didn't disappoint. There was a LOT of food. The price was very reasonable for all of that. There is a wide variety of food, not unlike Sweet Rice across and up the street. This one has slightly higher value for the dollar, and a better variety of appetizers, we agreed. We live in the neighborhood and are regulars here, and are never dissatisfied. Contrast to what you might assume from the name, it's actually a Korean and Japanese restaurant. We got the vegetable dumplings, teriyaki tofu, and bulgoki (as we do frequently); we didn't order them this time, but the green bean fries are also a favorite. Service was friendly, and it was quiet and fairly relaxing for a Sunday dinner. We did sit on the "adult" side, in contrast to the kid side with fish tanks; it's usually louder on that side. It's worth explicitly mentioning that the consistency here is fabulous; every time we order we get exactly what we did the last time, and it's always good. The last few times I've ordered from JP Seafood it's not been great, progressively worse. Tonight the gyoza weren't even warm, the wrappers were under cooked and two of them were stuffed w ginger! The sushi .. there was a blob of something in the container, I assume ginger but it was literally slimy, white and didn't smell like ginger. The chicken teriyaki was ok - more tofu than chicken but the flavor was good. Too bad this local biz that has so much support is going downhill! read more

I've been here several times over the years and had not been that impressed but I had a great experience here yesterday. We visited yesterday for a late lunch after exploring the Arnold Arboretum. I had an avocado maki roll and a Godzilla maki roll which includes tempura shrimp. Both were excellent. Service was great with excellent water service. I was super thirsty from walking around the Arboretum for hours and our waitress just kept the water coming. Much appreciated! All the staff were very friendly and laid back. We ordered sushi takeout from here previously and the fish is certainly fresh and delicious. They are very busy for indoor dining but it's worth it for the Ok Dol Bimbimbap in house!! Sashimi salad was good too. The fish and chips is done in the same manner as their sister restaurant evergreen and I would probably ask them to double fry the chips. read more

No Seafood cafe was pretty good. The drinks were solid. & the service was also pleasant. We went in the mid afternoon so it wasn't packed at all. The atmosphere was nice and mild. The only loud part was a party of about 5 sitting close to the door. My main problem was being sat closer to the bathroom and these gnats that were EVERYWHERE I couldn't enjoy my meal because I was swatting every 3 minutes or so. I do wish there were more locations so I drive about 25-30 mins to eat their japchae and soup. They have a decent lunch menu M-F between noontime until 3ish which has teriyaki and some sushi options. Can't figure out why owners don't take care of their year-round window boxes on their sidewalk outdoor seating area. They are mostly dead plants and old Christmas decorations filling the boxes. This place is phenomenal!! Super fresh fish and super duper tasty!! Went on a Sunday afternoon at 1:30pm with my friends. We each ordered a lunch special along with another lunch special-sashimi for our appetizer which had octopus, tuna, salmon and one more fish that I'm forgetting. I had the bulgoki lunch box-so many surprises and super filling! The service was excellent and my water glass was never empty. I also was able to try the udon noodles and the bimbibop which both had great flavor and were good size portions as well. Prices matched with quantity and quality and I would 100% recommend this location along with wanting to go back every time I visit Jamaica Plain. Next time I'll try some sushi and Maki. Very dissatisfied. Why? Primarily for 2 reasons: 1st and worst: We were asked to leave before we were naturally ready to leave because there was a backup of other customers. The excuse was that another customer had a reservation. Second reason: Decibels. Too high. The evening was excessively loud. How many ways did the fail? 1) There is no special seating. Tables are moved together or apart according to the size of the group. So these tables would not specifically reserved. 2) We finished our meals and paid our bill. We would have left on our own soon after. There was no need to rush us out. Be patient for turnover. 3) They created a lose lose situation. If the waiting customers were frustrated then that was a loose. But to rush us out was another lose. Bad business decision. 4) The place was LOUD. Wow. This place desperately needs noise absorption tiles or something. Unless the place is purposely designed so as to encourage patrons to quickly eat and leave. For McDonald's this is expected. But not for a neighborhood restaurant. Other reasons that I was dissatisfied. The food was dull. The eel was slightly slimy. It should have been crisper. I've had eel here before and it was much better. The sweet sauce over the eel and rice was sweet but not especially flavorsome. The tempura had a nice batter. The vegetables were fresh. But the soy sauce itself was generic. This a dissatisfying restaurant experience. How to improve: A) Deal with the noise issue. Figure out ways to reduce the sound that reverberates. While the fish tanks are pleasant they are glass. Put that into consideration where noise level is concerned. B) Don't ask customers already at the table to leave right after the bill is paid. That is rude. C) Remember a restaurant is in the hospitality business. It is not there just to see food on plates and in bowls. It needs to be a place where people are welcome. Asking folks to leave right after the bill is far from welcoming. D) Change the tempura and eel dishes to something more interesting. read more

This is the best Japanese restaurant south of the Boston (although JP is technically still Boston, we will ignore that minor detail). I would go as far as to say that they have the best bento box lunch in the city. The entrance is a little difficult to find, but when you walk in you are greeted with the take out area that is connected to the kitchen. When you finally walk into the dining areas, the interior of the restaurant is decorated with many fish tanks (No, they are not for consumption) and the space is quite roomy. Now to the food. Although I have not tried their Korean dishes yet, they have Korean chefs ( I overheard them while sitting near the kitchen), so I think you can trust them :P Every time I go here, I can't justify getting anything but bento box (for lunch) and sushi (for dinner). Their bento box has the largest portion I've seen in Boston, but it's not just filled with random fillers either. When you choose your entree, the rest of the bento box is filled with rice, 3 pieces of sushi roll, salad, fried fish, and their croquetts. I could totally have a box full of croquetts (think smooth mashed potatoes mixed with veggies and then covered in panko bread crumbs to be fried to a crispy perfection. Oh yea, and they're topped with delicious katsu sauce. They also have great sashimi (fresh and cut/portioned to perfection), which you can get in a bento box for the ultimate lunch. I have been hooked on AYCE sushi restaurants in the city, but I think this may be just as good. This place is totally worth the trip down to JP even if you live in the city or even in Somerville/Cambridge. It's a quite an easy walk from Orange Line Green Street Station, so come check it out! P.S. The first time I heard about JP Seafood Cafe, I found it on a list of best "Fish and Chips" in Boston. I still haven't been able to order that over their delicious sushi and bento boxes, but you should definitely give it a try, since my source has been reliable with other restaurants. read more

We're long standing fans of Evergreen Eatery so when I found out the owners also have a sushi spot it became a must-try. M and I ordered take out on a dreary Friday during Covid-19 quarantine. First: for folks looking for to-go during the health crisis, JPSC was great. They have two doors, you enter through one to pay and let them know you're there, then leave through another to wait outside. They bring your food out when it's ready. Everyone I saw was wearing masks/gloves and obvi being outside leaves plenty of space for social distancing. Next up: the food. We got a sashimi platter and I was very impressed by the quality and freshness of the fish. The salmon in particular was so buttery and rich, just delicious. We also got an order of the calamari and the seafood scallion pancakes. Both had great flavor but were a bit soggy by the time we got them home. I would definitely order them again in person, but will probably skip the fried options the next time get get take out here. JPSC will probably be our new go-to for sushi in JP. I can't believe I almost skipped giving this review until I was reminded. What a great option to have in this neighborhood. On this particular visit, we shared the following: Spider maki - Pretty darn decent. No surprises - tasted great, just as it should. Iron Chef's maki - Loved this one. Typically, restaurants offer a specialty maki that's made with shrimp tempura and spicy tuna but I loved how this was made with spicy salmon instead. Salmon stir fry - Awesome yummy goodness! Great flavors! You can't go wrong with this one. Overall, fantastic experience and I'd definitely become a regular if I was local. read more

With JP Seafood, ordered food on a Thursday night at 6:18pm, quoted 55min delivery. Called at 7:18pm to check-in -- "15 more minutes". Called at 7:40pm -- "he'll be there shortly". Food arrived 7:51pm. Food was soggy and cold (as expected with time delay). Had to preheat oven & heat. Ended up eating dinner around 8:20pm, though food was good I will say but terrible customer service/execution for the most part. read more

Came here with a couple of friends to celebrate one of their birthdays and he decided on this place. The interior decor was really nice and cozy. Read that their fish and chips were to on point so I decided to get it and boy were people right. The breading on the fish was nice and light so that it wasn't overly oily compared to others I have tried. The coleslaw was also amazing and light on the mayonnaise which is what I look for when I eat coleslaw. Big fan of the fish and chips, definitely something you would want to try from here. Also got a few sushi rolls which were decently priced. Got the dragon, spicy tuna, spicy yellowtail, spicy salmon, sunshine and shrimp tempora. All were great, I liked the sunshine roll because it had a nice circus flavor from the lemon they used which I loved. Friend got a bibimbap which looked amazing as well.
