We started with the yellowtail belly carpaccio and it was absolutely delicious. I seriously wish I had ordered the 10-piece because it was THAT DAMN GOOD. I also got the Baja Fresh Roll and it was . I asked them to cut it into 10 pieces to make it easier to eat, and I'm so glad I did because it let me savor it even longer. Every bite was so freaking good. We also got the spicy garlic edamame and I asked them to add salt--DELICIOUS. My husband ordered the Dragon Roll and absolutely devoured it. Honestly, this has to be some of the best sushi I've had in a VERY long time... and it's all the way out here in the desert?! Like WHAT?! Joyce Sushi was good, but overall we weren't blown away. The service was very fast, almost a little too fast, as we felt somewhat rushed throughout the meal. Our waitress was helpful and suggested several items, but she went through everything so quickly that it was hard to even catch what she was recommending. The robot that brings the food to the table was a fun touch and our kids thought that was really cool. The rolls themselves were good, but nothing particularly memorable. The ambiance is very dark and the decor is interesting there are a lot of different elements that don't necessarily go together, so the overall vibe felt a little odd to us. I'm so glad we did. The waiter seated us right away, and immediately brought out our drink orders. The Kirin Ichiban beer was ICE COLD. We placed our meal order, and the edamame was first to arrive. I CANNOT TELL YOU JUST HOW GOOD IT IS. IT IS THEIR SECRET WEAPON. Truly, we wanted to load up on the generous portion of edamame but only stopped because our sushi arrived right after. Having been a sushi lover for well over 25 years, I have to put this place in my Top 5 locations of all time. The all stars were the Spanish, Caterpillar, and Dragon rolls. The inside has a fun, relaxed vibe perfect for a quiet dinner for two. The food was so good we immediately boxed up what we couldn't finish as we didn't want it going to waste. I genuinely don't understand the 4.5-star rating. Then I noticed a sign outside offering a free dessert for leaving a review, and suddenly the glowing reviews made a little more sense. This was, by far, some of the worst sushi I've ever had. Nothing tasted fresh. The rolls were awful, the flavors were unpleasant, and we honestly left wondering what we had just eaten. The atmosphere didn't help either. The restaurant felt dirty and uninviting, and on top of everything, it was SO expensive. Looked for dinner in Palm Desert/Palm Springs during their slow season in the summer...super hot. This was a nice place to stop in a strip mall with an extensive menu and robot server. She was patient, organized, and kept a great attitude the entire time, even with all of our requests and the chaos that naturally comes with a large group. My husband ordered the 15-piece sashimi platter. It was on the pricier side at $60, but the portions were massive and very generous. He really enjoyed it and felt it was worth it given the quality and quantity. His meal also came with soup and salad. The soup was a mushroom miso -- a little on the salty side, but still tasty. The salad was a pleasant surprise: fresh mixed greens instead of the usual iceberg lettuce you often see at Japanese restaurants. Had dinner at Joyce's Sushi last night and it was very busy when we walked in. We had reservations so it was not a problem. The place was kind of dark and a bit loud, but not bad. We ordered the garlic edamame - which was a bit too saucy for me, miso soup which was very tasty, and a variety of sushi rolls. The rolls were very fresh and very good! The only thing I noticed was that so many of the rolls had spicy tuna as the filling. I wish there had been a bit more variety for those of us who don't always want spicy, but the sushi was good! Service was okay, but could've been better. They were very quick to bring out multiple rolls quickly in the beginning when the restaurant was very busy, but at the end of our meal, when the rush had died down, they took a very long time to bring out our last 2 rolls. I walked into Joyce's Sushi while on vacation and immediately felt like I'd stumbled into a weird, delicious version of that Spiderman meme. You know, the one where three Spidermans point at each other. Except in my version, it's me pointing at two sushi rolls named Joyce Roll and Golden Joyce Roll. Three Joyces and one table? Oh my! The Joyce Roll is everything I would want in a maki roll: Deep fried salmon, asparagus, and cream cheese, topped with tuna, shrimp, and jalapenos with "special sauce" on top. Then comes the Golden Joyce Roll, a golden-hued work of art that tastes like it was designed just for me (Coincidence? I think not.). It was a shrimp tempura roll with tuna and salmon with more special sauce. I believe they were both $22 each. Both insanely good but the OG Joyce Roll had my skirt flipping like the Forever Marilyn Statue in downtown Palm Springs. Dining here felt less like a meal and more like a joyful celebration of all things Joyce.
