Palm Desert seems to be a little skimpy with really good food options but we came across Hibachi2Go. Thought it might be a nice option considering most options are chains or fast food. We ordered too late so takeout was the only option. We tried the ribeye and salmon combo as well as the chicken and shrimp hibachi combo. We also ordered a Dynamite roll, California and a Shrimp Tempura roll. The hibachi items were okay. We were hungry and it seemed to fit the bill. The salmon was a bit salty and the ribeye was a little dry. The shrimp was fine but the chicken was a little bland. You get a white spicy sauce with it, unsure if you drizzle or dip. It didn't add much more flavor, just a little kick. The rolls were standard. The Dynamite sounded so appealing with the soy rice paper, but overall it was average. The white spicy sauce was drizzled over it plus the Dynamite is already a spicy roll to begin with, so be forewarned. For the chef to have lived in Japan and have extensive experience in Japanese restaurants, the expectation was a bit higher. Our whole order was $82 but they do add a surcharge which is the cost to pay with your credit card. Side note: It's a bit of a pet peeve of mine when businesses charge you this fee bc to me it's their cost of doing business. Businesses never used to do this, but seemed to have pivoted to this after covid. They should just build it into the cost of the food. Having lunch at this place again cause last my brother brought me here for the first time and the food was amazing and the amount of food you get is very filling and worth the price! The service is top notch and the food comes out hot and fresh weather for here or To go! The ambiance is very casual and you can come on your lunch break or on a date or just having a lazy day! I was dropping off my UPS packages at the pharmacy, and I noticed this little restaurant. I'm new to the area and was hoping to find a few really good casual restaurants nearby. I ordered the shrimp and chicken hibachi which came with five shrimp, several pieces of chicken breast slices, fried rice, sautéed julienned vegetables and a little container of a spicy mayo sauce. The vegetables had an odd taste, which I couldn't pinpoint, the shrimp was good but the chicken was bland. Luckily the sauce gave it some taste. I was really hoping for a little better. I'm hoping the owners read some of the critiques so they can make a few enhancements that customers would love to see so we can patronize their restaurant frequently. My wife and I stopped here for lunch on an incredibly hot day. The restaurant and its friendly, delightful owner that we ordered from were a blast of cool air. My wife and I ordered the Rainbow Roll (with salmon, tuna and avocado) and the eel roll. We ordered both rolls with purple rice, which I haven't seen before at a sushi restaurant. As we waited for our order the owner suggested we get a canned drink or a bottle of water on the house as it was so hot outside. We were very grateful for that! Both sushi dishes were delicious. The Rainbow Roll's salmon and tuna were fresh and the avocado freshly cut. The eel on the Eel roll was thick and flavorful. I liked the purple rice. When you first come in, you have to order at the counter and then you take a seat and they can bring the food to you. I did not really enjoy doing that but it's the way they run their business. We ordered the gyoza as appetizer and for entrées we have the dynamite roll, the rainbow roll, and a ribeye steak and chicken plate. They did not have any fountain drinks only bottled drinks. There was another group sitting down waiting to get their food when we were ordering. The people I was with felt that the food took quite a while to come out. The gyoza are dipping sauce had little to no flavor and some of them were a little overcooked. Both of the sushi rolls were great and mine was actually spicy which they normally aren't so it caught me a little off guard, but it was great and very tasty. The steak and chicken plate was overly salted and it had too much sauce. Overall, the ambience was kind of offputting and not really welcoming in a sense so I don't think we would be back because there was nothing really special about the service or the food. read more

I was in the mood for a light lunch and wanted something (relatively) healthy from the asian genre. After looking on yelp I came across this 4.4 star place on Yelp so I had to go and judge the food for myself. Yellowtail Nigiri: 5 stars! Delicious rice; perfectly cooked. Quality of yellowtail is simply 5 star. Delicious, velvety feel in the mouth and a good-sized portion for the price. I would order this again. Rainbow Roll: 4 stars. Yummy rainbow roll. Again, delicious sushi rice; perfectly cooked and perfectly seasoned. The quality of all the fish was great, and the portion was more filling than I expected. Presentation is simple, yet beautiful (see photo). Not 5 star, but very good sushi. I would like to see a better quality wasabi paste. Sushi is a challenge here in the Coachella Valley, but the folks here at Hibachi are doing well, although I will have to ask that they omit the mayonnaise sauce atop the rainbow roll the next time I come here. Service: 5 star Order at the counter before you sit down. If you have questions, the staff is happy to answer them for you and give their opinion on what they like / recommend. Restroom Gender neutral restroom is clean and handicap accessible. I'm happy to see more and more sushi places pop up in the Coachella Valley and I look forward to coming back to Hibachi2Go. This place really surprised us. Tucked away in a strip mall, and serving quality dishes (with HUGE portions and brilliant plating.) We had the chicken and shrimp hibachi combo. This dish is easily big enough to split. And the poke bowl was one of the best ones I've ever had. Don't tell anyone, but the sashimi was so big; I had to tear it into smaller portions because the pieces were HUGE. The chef here knows what she is doing. It's worth a visit. read more

it was the first time I've ever tried it and I've lived here for 20 years I walked in after 8:04 o'clock and I guess they don't close until 830 they told me they were not interested in serving me as I was interested in buying some steak and some chicken with rice after I got done working out at the gym I will never go in there again and I do not recommend it they are lazy with terrible service. what is worse is all the employees I guess maybe they own the place we're just sitting at the back table none of them wanted to even get up and go to the counter and also I saw some rotten fruit fish in the glass counter upfront I cannot recommend this place for any reason whatsoever it's terrible stay away. what I don't understand is why do they even show up to work if they don't want to help people they're just sitting in the back doing nothing they didn't even wanna come to the counter I don't even understand why they're in business that's all I have to say about it it smelled bad in there too have a nice day read more

If I could give this place zero stars I would!! The last time I came here I arrived 5 minutes after the time they open for dinner. The door was locked and no one was inside. So I sat and waited patiently in the car for another 10 minutes. Still no one came. I left and ran errands in the same strip mall and finally saw a man coming to open the door 40 minutes later. He claimed that someone in his family had gotten into a car accident. Ok, fair enough. Apparently they have NO employees and are just a "mom & pop" shop, so there isn't anyone they can call to step in if they're sick or running late. But I love supporting small businesses so I have no problem with this. The problem was with the food. I ordered a stir fry with meat. The chicken was hard and the meat was 90% fat. I ended up having to throw most of it out. Never went back, but I was just talking to a friend last week who said she loved this place, so I was coming into town and decided to give it one more try. I didn't know if they were open for lunch, or what time they closed, so I checked their website and it says that they're open for lunch until 2:30. I had also called in and asked what time they were open to and was told 2:30 for lunch. It also says this printed on their front doors under hours. I arrived with my husband at 2:10 and went right up to the counter to order. I knew exactly what we wanted and planned to gobble it down because I had to be at another nearby appointment by 2:45. When I started to order they said they were already closed for dining in. I was like WHAT?? I drove in from far away and did check your website and did call and everything said 2:30, and it's still 20 minutes before 2:30. I was very RUDELY told by the young lady who works the order counter that "we are allowed to pick & choose our own rules and we chose to close at 2:00 for dining in. We need to go home!" I mean, there was NO apology, no empathy, no appreciation for the fact that I was a paying customer there to buy food and support their small business. They could not have been more rude. The older couple who was in the back came out and also rudely told me that they need to get home!! When I politely asked why they closed at 2:00 if they told me over the phone they closed at 2:30, and their website says the same thing, their reply was "well we didn't know if you wanted to dine in or order to go when we told you our hours!" And I said, "but you didn't ask me, and if you do not take dine-in customers after 2:00 then shouldn't you post that on your website, or at least let people know when they call in to specifically ask about your hours?" Her reply was "everybody knows!!" Wow!!! I didn't know and I'm somebody. What an arrogant, rude, unappreciative business this is!!! I wouldn't go back here if they paid me to. The food was awful last time, and with this kind of attitude I doubt they'll stay in business much longer, which is exactly what they deserve! With the economy slow, and businesses closing down left & right you would think they'd learn how to treat people better. Especially since I kept saying that they were absolutely entitled to close at whatever time they wanted to, but it shouldn't be a time that is earlier and different than what they have posted on their website, and different than they tell people when they call in to ask about their hours. All they have to do is post on their website that dining-in closes at 2:00 and ordering to-go closes at 2:30. That would be very simple, right? When I asked that very logical, simple question they told me that not only did they have the right to choose what time they close, but they also had the right to choose who they served and who they didn't, and at that point they said they were refusing me service!!! Keep in mind that I never insulted them, never yelled at them, and was just asking very logical questions that apparently they did not want to have to answer because they knew they were in the wrong. But instead of admitting that, and offering a sincere apology, which would've been more than enough for me, they decided to act extremely rudely, as if it was me who had done something wrong by coming in to give them money and order food at 2:10. There are so many other restaurants to go to who show sincere gratitude and appreciation for their customers, I advise everyone to go to those places instead!! read more

Fast service, you order your food at the front counter. Sushi' is very delicious, and fresh. Can't beat the price! Nowadays fish are very expensive, this place is a local family owned, and I LOVE supporting local businesses. They have plenty of sushi menu options, as well as different type of hibachi, and lots of appetizers (edamame, gyoza, shrimp tempura, etc). I also got a cold glass of Sapporo. :) read more

Great lunch spot and the hibachi is very good here. I typically get the chicken. We typically order at the counter, eat there and have not had to wait long for our meals. The spicy sauce that is served on the side is delicious! If you want extra, they do charge for it. If you follow me, you know service weighs heavy on my reviews and this place easily loses 2 stars just based on bad service.. and you're on the phone to take a Togo order.. no need to be so grumps. Anyway, the fish and presentation is the only great thing about this place. The rice was waaaay undercooked.. so much so that we picked off the fish and threw out all the rice bc no one wants hard rice sushi.. I am hoping this is just a fluke because this place clearly is highly rated.. so sad that ours was so bad. The fish, however was fresh and was a good cut. The rolls were heavy on the rice.. but I guess you pay for what you get. This place is fairly cheap for sushi.. so I should have known better. I literally cannot remember the last time I gave a place 2 stars.. but it was deserved. Good but not great. The only thing I didn't like about my sushi was that the fish wasn't cold enough. The entire meal was lukewarm. The fish was fresh and the spicy tuna was delicious. You tally what you want on a piece of paper and hand it to the employee to charge you. Be careful when the employee rings you up.
