While visiting Palm Desert for business, we decided to have sushi for dinner and chose The Venue after reading several reviews praising the food--though many mentioned slow service. Upon arrival, we were greeted by our waiter, Juan, who was very pleasant. We placed our order just before Happy Hour ended and then waited for our meal. After finishing all the ginger at our table for the third time, I asked Juan about our food. He promptly checked with the kitchen and returned to let us know the chef was preparing our order and that our final bill would reflect the delay. When the food arrived, I was genuinely impressed--the presentation was excellent; every dish was delicious, and the portion sizes were generous. It was clear that Juan was pleased to see we were satisfied with our meal. Although there was a bit of a wait, the experience was well worth it. We decided to try something new in downtown Palm Desert! And as it was hot outside we felt sushi was perfect item to have for dinner! And this place sounded like the perfect venue to stop in as they were having all day Happy Hour on Sunday that included drinks and food items, including a selection of sushi. The restaurant offered quite a list of items to choose from (see pictures) for happy hour menu. The restaurant is quite small. The restaurant features a bar that had about 10 seats. Plus a small dining room and an outdoor space. I assume the outdoor space will only be good for winter time as no misters or fans. The single server was very attentive. She was practically doing everything: waiting on guest, playing hostess and making drinks. As for food and drinks: we were both please with our drinks off the happy hour menu. We got a large bottle of Sapporo for 10 dollars and a lychee cocktail for 11 dollars which was refreshing. As for food: well we didn't particularly like our food. The edamame was solid, but how can you mess that off. The two sushi rolls were quite small for 14 dollars on happy hour. We ordered one that had tuna on top with fake crab mix inside with a couple of sauces. The tuna color looked to perfect to be real. The tuna was not really tender. The sauce did not complement the sushi well. We ordered another role that came with four pieces and I could not distinguish the flavors within the rolls. We sat outside for dinner at The Venue with a group of 4. Thanks to our attentive waitress we were able to sneak in some happy hour orders of Spicy Tuna Tostada, California Dream'n, and Sandfish. We later ordered a Lollipop roll, The Experiment, and Scandinavian. Overall food was fresh and flavorful, but our favorites were the Tostada, Sandfish, and Scandinavian. The Scandinavian had a slightly smoky flavor and Sandfish had a lovely crunch with the crispy potato threads. The Experiment was the only slight disappointment as the mango was very a very faint flavor and our main driver for ordering (while still yummy). We got so tired of eating at all the other sushi bars that we do not really like so we decided to try somewhere new. I never tried this one on El Paseo because I've always heard how expensive it was however, we arrived in time for a happy hour between 4:30 and 5:30 , everyday, and the prices are very much better . Everything was excellent. The service was good. The atmosphere is so beautiful. They have very nice outdoor eating as well I did read some of the reviews and it did say it takes a while to get your food and they are right but it's worth waiting for this is the only sushi bar that I have been to lately where all the sushi comes from inside the kitchen not behind the bar. Don't let the outside patio fool you, they are OPEN and absolutely delicious. We had reservations at 5:30pm and the waiter, Katrina informed us that happy hour was until 6pm. So, we ordered a Chardonnay and a Manhattan, one now and one for later at the happy hour price. Cha Ching$$ We also stuck with the happy hour menu and it was a great way to share four different dishes: Soy beans, Tuna Takai Tacos (check the picture to piece in the taco), California Dream'n (my Fav), and Sanfish. My dad and I stopped by The Venue for happy hour and a light pre-dinner, and as always, it did not disappoint. We've been coming here many times over the years whenever he visits the valley, and the food, service, and overall vibe are consistently great. We ordered a few appetizers to start -- the cucumber salad, miso soup, tempura shrimp, and chicken potstickers. Everything was fresh and flavorful. We also tried the hot stone Wagyu, which was so good and definitely a must-try. The vegetarian roll was another favorite of the night. I recently went to the Venue restaurant and it was fabulous! The service was friendly and efficient and the menu has a lot of offerings. I really enjoyed the sushi and the all day happy hour. We were staying in Indian Wells and the front desk told us about The Venue. I've been to their sister restaurant Sandfish in Palm Springs. The service was amazing and accommodating. We arrived after 8pm thinking they closed at 9pm (Google) but they actually closed at 8:30pm. We didn't feel rushed and the items came out super fast! We ordered the tuna tostada and coconut shrimp to start. We had couple nigiri sushi before our 3 rolls - Venue, El Paseo and Wagyu. I didn't pay attention and all 3 rolls were spicy and 2 had Serrano peppers on top. Everything was delicious. The two of us shared everything and we were stuffed walking out. I could have ordered 1 less roll. If you're shopping around El Paseo or staying near Palm Desert or Indian Wells this is THE sushi spot. This is definitely a fancy date night spot, somewhere would go to if you wanted to flex -- it's pricey. Majority of their rolls had the same California roll base -- (real) crab meat and avocado -- with different toppings. Wasn't super unique, but the flavors were good. The A5 Wagyu hot stone was pretty generous for how much meat you get and the truffle butter that comes with it was a good pairing. Service was good, no complaints there! read more

This review is only for those with a gluten issues. We had a really confusing experience here. I have celiac and found the restaurant listed on Find Me Gluten Free. I informed the server that I had celiac, and she seemed very knowledgeable about the menu so I didn't probe too deeply because they were so highly rated on the app. As the rolls came out, I got a bit nervous and double checked about whether or not some of the toppings were fried in the same fryer as gluten items. The server informed me that it was in a shared fryer "but most people with celiac are fine with that." She didn't offer to remake the roll and we weren't ever offered gluten free soy sauce. It made me nervous about their safety protocols overall. After we gave her feedback that using a shared fryer isn't safe for celiacs, she informed me that the owner's mother has celiac and she can tolerate the shared fryer just fine, and implied this was an issue with my personal ability to tolerate gluten. The food was good and the space is beautiful, but unfortunately I was not able to enjoy the experience safely. read more

The restaurant is located in El Paseo right across the street from Kitchen 86. When you walk in you're greeted by where the designated outdoor seating is. The entrance is between two storefronts and you walk around the outdoor seating to get to it, which makes the outdoor seating area a little less private and intimate. I did not know their sister sushi restaurant is Sandfish in Downtown Palm Springs, but they have a roll named for it. We started off with drinks which were good and not too strong. After we got nigiri, both Escolar and Smoked Salmon. This was the first time my boyfriend has actually tried nonfried/cooked sushi. I love Escolar and he loved it as well. Next we got their specialty rolls: The Dragon, Bosphorous, and The Venue. The Bosphorus was my favorite because of the escolar on the top. The other two were good, but I wasn't a fan of the micro greens. I thought it was overused in The Venue. Overall, this place is good for the area. Intimate venue with a cool lounge vibe as well as choosing and eating our way through the Social (Happy) Hour menu with the Agedashi and Rainbow Roll not being a part of it. Great service by Karina as well as the Hostess who also checked on us every so often. This is a great place for a date night and highly recommend for the overall experience! Everything was fresh and presented nicely with the biggest surprise being the agedashi which was not on the menu but it was previously one of their Specials but just not tonight. After our server spoke with the Chef we were told that it would not be a problem to make it for us and the portion sizes of this appetizer were huge without the tofu being drowned in a sauce. Our server was attentive and checked on us often and gave great recommendations. The social hour menu is amazing and we enjoyed some great deals off of it. He was happy to share with us his favorite items from the menu and make recommendations based upon our tastes. The place was well lit and clean, we sat at the bar and while we did not have much interaction with the Sushi Chef, which seems to be more and more common these days.... the interaction is normally why I loved sitting at the sushi bar, as opposed to a regular table... the staff was all friendly and we had a few recommendations from the waitress as well. We went with Stuffed Avocados which John recommended as well as a Mushroom starter that was highly recommended by our waitress. While I am not a mushroom fan, this was a hit, I wish I knew the name of it!. We ordered some Sashimi, and a few rolls, my favorite item was what we finished on, which was the Scallop in Shell... it was amazing!!
