This is my third time going to Joy's Sushi. The owner is very nice and let us try new dishes. The staff is a lot nicer then most of the other sushi restaurants I have been to. The quality of the sushi is very good and the rolls are also good, so far everything we have eaten has been good quality food. My weekday birthday lunch was a total disappointment thanks to the rude, miserable waitress serving us. Firstly, she argued about an item that my daughter clearly ordered in the past because, according to her, it did not exist. After a few minutes of her rude, condescending attitude, she realizes it is a special item that IS available! She did not even apologize! We should have left right then...I only realized this in hindsight. Aside from the salmon tempura (not on the menu, but always available...go figure), the food was not very fresh nor good. During the whole time we were there she never smiled, or grinned for that matter, she just huffed and snatched things away from the table. She was AWFUL!!!! At the end of it, we left just the change for her tip, roughly four bucks, which was more than generous on a 70+bill considering how rude she was. But wait, it doesn't stop there; she had the audacity to follow us out of the restaurant and return the tip/change to my mom. When my mom said "That's ok, keep it" she responded "I don't need this" and stormed off!!!!! Unbelievable!!!!Do not eat there, ever!!!! While my daughter has had a good experience in the past, it did not make up for this one. During the argument phase of the experience, my daughter was really polite and just calmly stated, "Oh I usually come on the weekends maybe that's why you don't have it"; she responded "well I don't work on the weekend." read more

My friend took me here on Saturday for the first time and I was very impressed. I got something called a Rattlesnake Roll. It was amazing! I don't even remember what exactly was in what I ordered, but I do know that it was complete with tempura, jalapeno, cream cheese, crab meat, and two different kinds of spicy sauce. Recently moved to whittier near the whittwood town center and was craving sushi about 3 days ago so I went around 8:40 wish and was for take out, staff is really friendly and helpful. I walked in and was helped immediately, ordered 2 orders of crunch rolls and was very pleased:)! Joy used to be my spot, but their sushi is no longer to my taste/liking. They still have a great atmosphere and staff. I just don't think the prices justify the quality and lack of variety in their rolls compared to other sushi joints in the area. What Joy has got everyone beat is their udon noodle soups. Terrible. Do not recommend at all. My 3 girlfriends and I ate here last night and we basically spent $150 to get food poisoning. We had a few rolls, salmon (which was sliced way too thick), tempura and seaweed salad. The food was lacking in flavor and the tempura was way greasy. When I went the fish was fresh and great. I love anything spicy and the choices I made did not disappoint. Good flavors and well put together. The prices were about average for this area but not jaw dropping. The service was also very good and attentive. Also they put just the right amount of sauce on what needed it so my sushi wasn't falling apart or drowning like at some places. I really like the vibe and atmosphere of this place. My favorite item to order is the baked lobster roll which I recommend everyone to try at least once. If ordering an appetizer then I recommend the following three the yakitori(broiled chicken and vegetables on skewers), green mussels, or the jalapeño poppers. The servers are very nice and the menu has a lot of pictures of the items in case it is your first time there. Been here a couple of times place has amazing food!!! Price is a little much for what you get.. They don't seem to have specials like a lot of the other local sushi joints .. But like I said food is amazing .. Last time I was here I ordered 3 rolls 2 came that where right an one was way wrong.. So I told the lady and her and the chief were fighting .. In the end I obtained all the rolls I ordered plus the other one for free.. I am still unclear if it was just a complementary roll from the chief or if they genuinely messed up and made a roll that was not ordered.. Anyways 4 stars for good fresh fish! read more

Ok, it's not the cream of the crop when it comes to sushi joints, but it is good quality and never disappoints. I take friends and family here without hesitation. Sashimi is awesome, just wish mackeral wasn't part of the assortment. It's so damn fishy and they put this crazy spicy sauce on it. Also, I don't know what's up with their diet coke, but it tastes so much better than most restaurants! Seaweed salad here is bombtastic. Oh, and I personally do like their Lady Gaga and top 40 music playing in the background during dinner time. Drowns out other people talking which I don't care to hear anyway!
