Joy sushi is a mixed bag, and has been inconsistent in its quality over my few visits. The first visit was great! Very prompt service, and very good and fresh flavors. Prices are on the low side, especially in light of the presentation and quality of the dishes. Second visit wasn't so good. Service was much slower, and things didn't seem to be as fresh or tasty. I'd not recommend the custard dessert, it was served to me partially frozen, was pretty much flavorless, and seemed to have had far too much gelatin added when it was made. The interior is pretty dirty, too. Walls look like they've never been cleaned, and some booths' walls are far worse than others. This location is in a, "old", shall we say? strip mall, and the area can be a bit seedy. There's plenty of parking available, though, and ingress and egress is easy.

Delicious food. Generous potions. Nice and friendly staff. Good overall experience. Will be coming back.

We've only been here once so far but will for sure be back because the sushi was delicious! My husband and I ordered 4 rolls and went home stuffed. The restaurant itself isn't the biggest but we came in a bit early for dinner (around 5pm) and had no issues being seated right away. Despite the consistent stream of to-go pick ups, they were quick to bring everything out.

Decided to go to this hole in the wall restaurant. Literally the best sushi I've ever had, Salmon looks like wagyu. Highly recommend.

I was looking forward to this meal. It's in a weird collection of strip mall stores. But some of the best sushi I've had has been in a strip mall, so based on the reviews I was expecting this place to be good. I cannot understand the high scores. The quality of the fish is very low. The tuna, salmon, yellowtail were spongy and water-soaked, certainly frozen. The yellowtail was off, and it's my very favorite--I had to spit it into a napkin. TMI, I know. The picture is of the fish we couldn't eat because it was waterlogged and tasteless. I'm going to feed it to the crows. They'll think it's super. If you love sushi, and are used to quality fish, this is not the place for you. Also, it's not cheap, however the slices of fish are ginormous (too big). Maybe that's why people like it. It's definitely quantity over quality. One outstanding thing--the couple operating the restaurant are super nice--I wish I was able to write a good review. I'm writing this one because the good reviews are very misleading.

We were looking for a new experience and stumbled upon Joy Sushi while cruising down 4th Plain. We had a wonderful experience. A family operation, their mantra is upping the customer experience and bringing joy to each visitor who comes through the door. Jessica and her family have done an excellent job on that front, and the food complements their dedication perfectly. Fresh, tasty, and a great menu variety that isn't too bloated with an overpowering list of items. Sushi dishes were some of the best in Vancouver. They even have a dessert sushi roll called sweet angel. A must try! Lanzhou soup was some of the best we ever had. Broth was clear and tasty and meat was cooked perfectly. Lots of love and dedication going into their dishes and cannot recommend them enough...and they have great xia long bao! Will be going in again this week! Thank you, Joy Sushi! You are very much appreciated here in Vancouver. Update, April 2022. New owners but same great food and service with a worked over menu. Some additional goodies and sushi boats! The Szechuan chicken appetizer is to die for. Make sure you get rice with it.

Food is prepared with care. Sushi is fresh and ramen/udon is a nice addition. It's been our go to spot for these dishes because it appears to be the most authentic and tastes so darn good. We usually get the Bruce Lee roll because it's the right amount of spicy and still able to taste the flavor of the ahi and imitation crab. Serving staff are always pleasant and attentive. And it's a nice small location where you can enjoy a date night or gals brunch/dinner. It is $$ but you pay for quality.

I love my sushi, especially when they come in a boat! Super fast and friendly service. We got all our rolls within 15 mins and they're very fresh and delicious. They've got some creative roll creation like ones with beetroot and ginger, as well as more classic ones. Generous portion of fresh fish in all the rolls that we got. Pretty fatty salmon was used. Totally worth giving it a try!

In all honesty, this is more of a 4.5/5. The pricing is tough to swallow but they made a great effort in customer service including getting the door for every single guest after they left. Joy Sushi seems to be a new place around town and with good reviews on Yelp and Google, we got in the car to go check it out. We ordered the ninja roll, shrimp tempura, Vegas roll, salmon roll, and rainbow rolls. The sushi here is pretty good but I feel like at the price point, they are competing with some heavy hitters including Mio Sushi. The fried stuff was really good. The Vegas was a nice touch of fresh with the tempura matter to ask some crispness. The shrimp tempura was small but also good. Thumbs down on not having tempura sauce; they served with sweet and sour instead. The salmon roll a bit of a miss for me. It was basically a California roll with a sliver of salmon. The rainbow roll and ninja rolls were good with no additional comments. All in all, the service is good here. I'm not sure if it is because they are new, but the staff is ambitious and willing to serve above and beyond. I do wish they would get the price a little more in the realistic ball park. Until that happens, it is going to be a tough case for a lot of diners.

I haven't had better sushi for a while! They are delicious. Tiger eye and lobster roll are my favorites. The only thing is this place charged me $36 randomly when I haven't went there.. so I had to make a call to the bank and cancel this transaction.. paying with cash only from now on. The place is also very dirty, the walls and the doors need to be cleaned.. I'm scared to imagine how the kitchen looks like lol. But I'm here for the delicious food! read more

Every sushi I got ended up being extremely spicy whyyyy just whyyyyyy???? There's other sauces you can add for flavor instead of pepper sauce I ordered Vegas rolls. They brought me (Las Vegas rolls). Completely different thing. Apparently they don't carry just Vegas rolls anymore. Again super spicy. spent $90 here. my wife & 3 kids hated it. We ate about 7 pieces of sushi everything went to the trash. Super spicy for no reason. It shouldn't be. Ugh that was a waste of money. The waitress was extremely nice though. read more

Service was friendly! However the food was just ok. Our bbq pork was half hot and half cold- must have been microwaved. Disappointing because the sauce was delicious. This is a new family restaurant and definitely worth a visit. The owner is delightful and hospitable and the food fantastic. Let me start out by saying the food is really good here. However, I took some people there on a Tuesday night and they said they were closed for takeout only. OK fair enough. I said, when are you open for dine in, and they said Wednesday night. I called back the following Wednesday and verified that they were open for dine in and the guy on the phone said yes Wednesday night open for dine in. We go there on Wednesday and they said closed to take out only. I'm thinking. I'm thinking how hard is it to put food on a plate rather than in a bag? They had a cook and a guy out front, so where's the big difficulty? I don't need more than one waiter. So, even though it's good, I'll never go back there. They don't seem to be very bright. read more

Giving 2 stars because maybe their sushi is good but I've had their wonton soup and these crab puffs, do not order them. They are so hard and dry, and taste like nasty burnt oil. Worst ones I've tried yet. $8 for 6 pieces and ate the inside only which wasn't the worst thing but still tasted like oil. Don't break your teeth and get something else. The wonton soup is a little better then these but I've had better. Wontons were ok soup was good. read more

Weird ambience but they finally got beer at least. Quality of fish was not as good since the last time I was here and it was to go. It is very loud inside. They make a decent California roll but the nigiri sushi pieces are too large. You don't need to order 2 orders of any tuna or yellowtail nigiri because if you cut them it's 4 normal sized pieces. I don't know how any of the restaurants make it in the strip mall there read more

Wow! I just found my new favorite sushi spot in Vancouver! I just got takeout tonight for the first time, and it was so good. They have a huge menu with creative rolls and fresh ingredients. The staff was very friendly and welcoming as well. I will definitely be a regular customer. Go give them a try! read more

first of all it has a pretty bad ambiance. the music is way too loud and they play dumb pop songs. doesnt match the vibe at all. the place is just a box with a curtain to the kitchen. The sashimi is really good and beefy! but the california rolls dont have a crunch and they are way too much crab.The calamari also sucked, it wasnt like how it is served at a sushi place, more like a mcdonalds. There seems to be only one woman working the store and she just watches the people and asks if you need anything. it is kinda eery. She is hard to understand but i get it. The sushi is served on boats, which is pretty cool, but it kind of looks like they dont get washed. they are wooden so i wouldnt not expect that. all in all, dont go here if you are considering some place else. read more

A friend recommended this new sushi place and so I placed an order online and sent my teenagers down to pick it up! We all really enjoyed the food! We ordered the blazin roll, pepper tuna roll, spicy tuna and veggie roll along with the fried rice( big enough to share) and some appetizers! Plenty of food for 4 of us with a little left over. I've been to many Japanese restaurants in Canada, the US, and Tokyo, and I can attest that this restaurant serves the highest quality sushi you can find anywhere. I don't think I've had better, which is very surprising to me. The rice is perfect as well. Don't let the location or plaza scare you off, just go inside and you'll understand what I mean after you've tried it:) read more

We finally flagged down the waitress and ordered a couple of ramen and a bowl of udon. The noodles were good for the area. The ramen had a a couple of pieces of chasu in it. The broth was okay. It was a pleasant surprise since we had low expectations.

After placing a drink order, we could see the drinks sitting at the bar for quite a while, but our server was nowhere to be found and no one else stepped in to bring them over. On a positive note, the restaurant itself is large and seemed fairly clean. That said, with so many better dining options around, I probably won't be coming back anytime soon

They have 6 drive up and go spots right in front of the store. The employees are pretty quick at bringing groceries out and loading them where you want. They now offer to bag your groceries in bags you bring from home. You also have the choice to let them bag your groceries inside the store for 8 cents/bag. The parking lot and spaces are always clean and employees are constantly retrieving shopping carts and bringing them inside. Overall recommend this location.

Salmon roll, California roll, miso soup, and avocado roll were the best we've found in Washington! Can't recommend enough. The raw fish was so fresh and presented beautifully. Definitely a hole in the wall that am so so thankful we found. Will only be going back here now. So so good! read more
