The space is a little small, only able to accommodate one large party, so not a place to bring more than 8 or so. It's a decent enough, although very expensive sushi joint (aren't they all, though?) I came for the first time the other day as I was craving sushi after visiting the Mountain View Costco. I tried my usual sushi place but they were closed on a Monday so I did a quick search and found this place. My husband ordered a bento box, and I ordered the sushi lunch special which came with miso soup, salad, and 6 pieces nigiri and 8 pieces CA roll. I also ordered the veggie tempura as I did not think I'd be full enough on just the sushi. Total for the bill was about $55 without tip (yikes!). The sushi was ok, nothing particularly special, but good enough and fresh enough. The CA roll was hard to pick up it fell apart easily. The sauce for the tempura was very different than most I've tried, it was kind of tasteless. The nigiri sushi was basic, the usual shrimp, salmon and tuna with a couple white fish options. A cute and wonderful little sushi spot in a strip mall! They have an extensive menu complete with appetizers, bento, oyakodon, noodles, and sushi rolls of all types. We had the Lamada roll and chicken cutlet oyakodon. Food was well-prepared and the wait staff were so friendly and helpful. It's not a very spacious inside (a small sushi bar plus a few tables indoors) and there was a wait after 6:45pm, even on a Tuesday night. There are also outdoor tables with heat lamps. Joy sushi has an extensive menu so we tried other menu too. Loved Oyster fry and Hamachi Kama! We order nearly every Saturday online. Looks like they were out of salmon poke, thus I received half tuna/half salmon. I specified 'do not substitute' items. What was even worse was the seaweed salad was also missing. I could maybe accept unwanted tuna but withhold seaweed and you've gone too far. Really enjoyed our experience at Joy Sushi. I actually called ahead to make a reservation for lunch, but there were plenty available seats. This whole dining out thing is going to take some time to get back to what it used to be. Anyway, my wife and I worked up quite an appetite from a morning hike so we went a bit casual fancy. She opted for the Sashimi lunch combo while I did the Nigiri combo. They both came with a bowl of miso soup and a salad. The sashimi combo also came with a bowl of rice. The fish all tasted quite fresh! There was also quite a nice variety. I can't name them all but I certainly devoured them all. Some of them were really melt-in-your-mouth and worth savoring. Only nit was I think the salad came a bit overdressed. Service was friendly and attentive. Went there not too long ago with some friends. Food was decent and tasted OK. What really ticked us off is that we have been charged $0.50 per togo box (without giving us any heads up) and, when we asked for a refund for an ice tea that we could not drink (it wasn't very good as it was very strong and very cloudy), the $3 refund was denied due to "as soon as something leaves the kitchen, sale is final." (we spent over $200 on our dinner). It's not about the money. At the end of the day, what's extra $4 on a $200 check. I just don't think that a reputable business should treat its customers this way. It's located in a small plaza and the place is pretty small. Maybe a capacity of 25 people but there is an options for some people who wants to sit outdoors. It looks like a family own place and the employee there are super nice. Always coming by asking if everything is good and if we want some water. The two rolls I got is basic but it taste amazing. Gotta try the basic before going into the best ones. I got the Joy king, which is basically another name for the lion king. The salmon was a bit dry but of course they baked it. I do feel like they skimped out on the sauce. It needs to have more sauce. The other roll on the right is the dragon roll and of course very good! Overall, my experience at joy sushi was great! I've been on a mission to find the best sushi restaurant within a 30 minute drive ever since my favorite roll was taken off the menu at my usual spot. I think I might have finally found it! I ordered two rolls to-go (el Camino and geisha) due to COVID. The el Camino roll was my favorite, but the geisha roll was amazing as well. The spicy tuna "crackers" were pretty good, but I was expecting the rice to be crunchy, and it was pretty soft. The flavor was still delicious, and the soft rice didn't stop me from eating them all. I can't wait until restaurants open again because I'm excited to go try Joy Sushi in person. There are just some things that don't travel well (IMO anything with tempura etc.). But until then, I will be picking up my sushi from here! *got to-go food here again 1/27 and it was just as amazing as I remember. I've always passed by this place and decided to finally stop by to have lunch. There's a lot of seating inside and some outdoor seating which is nice! There's a lot of parking, which is always a plus. One of the workers greeted me so kindly and I asked if I could order to go. They said I could and gave me time to look over the menu and said I could come over whenever I was ready. I ordered 2 rolls and they told me it would be about 10 minutes and boy were they on it. As I was walking up (10 min later) one of the workers came out to me with my order and they also included miso soup. I just moved to this area so I had to go looking for a new sushi spot. You can order through their website or Grubhub, but not DoorDash. I browsed their menu online and phoned in my order directly. The store was very clean and I felt safe with the COVID measures I saw. I got the Rock'N Roll, Mercy, and 1st rolls. The Rock'N Roll was a standard unagi and avocado roll, basic but tasty. The other two roll were both good and rather similar. 1st was my favorite, the shrimp tempura was crunchy and salmon was tender. Many rolls are topped with Joy special sauce, it's nice and creamy but a touch too sweet for my taste. I would prefer regular spicy mayo for a kick. I did like that there was a lot of sauce in general. The fish tasted fresh and the portions were good. Joy sushi has been my go-to spot for a quick lunch during the weekdays for about a year now. You can get a 2 item bento (includes rice, miso soup, salad) for $12 or 3 item bento for $15. The lunch bentos are an awesome deal and the options are great! My favorite 2 item pairing is the salmon sashimi and 5 piece gyoza. They also do a $15 poke bowl that comes with salmon, tuna, and yellow tail with other fixings. You can add white or brown rice for free and it's a filling meal. My favorite sushi roll is the "1st", for $14 it has shrimp tempura, avacado, salmon, and cucumber. Highly recommend this place for lunch, however note that their bentos do increase in price for dinner time. read more

Solid spot for rolls! My partner and I wanted sushi for dinner, so we decided to get Joy Sushi. They have online ordering, so I placed an order for pickup. We ordered a few items to share, including the: - baked mussels: online, it does say one order is five pieces, but it only came with 4. No problem though, as these were delicious! Creamy, sweet, and the mussels were cooked well! - mango paradise: this was my favorite of the rolls! The mango was sweet, and the hamachi was delicious. Very fresh-tasting roll! - 49ers roll: tasted just like a dragon roll with the addition of soft shell crab, and I loved it! That extra crunch from the crab was great. - joy king roll: their version of a lion king roll, and it was tasty! I'm not a huge fan of baked rolls because they tend to be very creamy and/or sweet, but that wasn't the case with this one. The salmon was baked well too! The meal also came with a couple containers of miso soup, which were also delicious and a great accompaniment to our dinner. I generally don't like rolls that have a ton of sauce, but none of these sauces were overbearing or too sweet. Also, huge plus that their online menu has photos! Was craving sushi one night and my usual go to in Mountain View was closed. Based on yelp reviews, I decided to order for pickup from Joy Sushi through Uber Eats. The menu is veryyyy extensive with lots to choose from. We ended up ordering the Mango Tango Roll, Salmon & Ikura Roll, and Six Pieces Nigiri Appetizer. The service was great. My order was ready right on time and the employees at the store were very friendly when I came for pickup. However, I wasn't really impressed with the food as the fish didn't taste very fresh. I will say the rolls were better than the nigiri but I don't think I'd order from here again. We came for lunch. It was half full but took awhile to get the one server to come take our order since he had to bring food to other tables, bus a table then bring soup to multiple tables. We ordered the lunch bento. I had chicken teriyaki and California roll. Unfortunately, my chicken teriyaki tasted liked burnt charcoal. It didn't look burnt, but every piece tasted burnt and was one of the worst tasting chicken teriyaki I've ever eaten due to the burnt taste. My husband had the salmon teriyaki and tempura. The salmon teriyaki was overcooked and a little dry. The tempura was very chrunchy but didn't have too much flavor. I would not recommend coming here for the food. This place continues to be our go-to sushi restaurant. We've been coming here for more than 4 years and the quality of food and friendly service is unwavering. Not only is it in close proximity to our home, but it's quiet and simple enough to enjoy a nice family dinner. Some of our favorites include the bento box and dragon roll sushi's. My all time favorite is still the Poke Bowl which I only buy during lunch for takeout. This is a hidden gem for me. I've lived only a few blocks from this place for over 10 years and had no idea this place was here until I did a "sushi nearby" search. I've been going to the ones located downtown MV all this time. I took a foodie friend and he said his sushi dishes were really good! It's a small place but they've decorated it to feel bright and open. The servers are friendly and attentive. I was catching up with my friend and admittedly we overstayed our time by about 2 hours.
