Baked roll

The food is terrific. Came here after 1pm on a Friday to beat the lunch crowd and found parking easily. The parking in the plaza is awful during the lunch rush most days. Got seated and served really fast. I forgot my sunglasses in the restroom and the waitress brought them out to me. So nice! Thank you!!! This was my second time here and I'll definitely be back. The place is small and cozy, relaxed and not too loud.

Sushi Combo Plate

Came for a Saturday lunch and was seated immediately for a party of two. There's only one server which makes it so that even though the restaurant isn't busy it takes a while to get the server's attention. We weren't even served water before we almost finished our meal which we had to ask for. The sushi combo plate that I got was ok, but Sushi Tomi nearby is miles above in quality in my opinion.

Spicy Chicken

Picked up a Spicy Chicken plate, it came with rice, salad, a dressing, and soup. Very good portion of the chicken, given the plate is slightly on the expensive side. It was more of a chicken teriyaki flavor profile with a kick of spice to it (not sure what type of spicy sauce was used), but it tasted good. It was pretty saucy. Just about right for a dinner. I was not very fond of the miso soup, I felt it was a little overpowering for me. Overall I'd say 3.5/5. Nice ambience and a decent sized parking lot, a couple of other restaurants in the complex as well. They get the food ready pretty quick.

I've been looking for my go-to sushi place in the area and I've found it!! Joy sushi is great all around. Amazing selection of sushi, affordable, fast service, and delicious! My guests and I came in on a Friday at 5:30pm and were seated and served promptly. It seems like this is a popular place for takeout as there were quite a few tables available. If you are looking for a no frills, great sushi, amazing service, and affordable place- joy sushi is your spot!

LOVED this small local spot! Very fresh rolls, I believe the owners were making the rolls & they were so kind, the rolls were made very quick and were full of so much flavor! The island roll and the monster roll are pictured and probably our favorite two we tried of the night! 12/10 recommend!

I came to Joy Sushi with a friend for dinner. He had raved about it and it is his favorite sushi place. We came around 6:30 pm on a Tuesday and were able to be seated right away. I tend to like simple rolls without too much sauce where you can really taste the individual ingredients in the roll. I told the friend that- but even still the rolls all had a lot of sauce. I probably should have been more assertive in the ordering process- but since he said it was his favorite place and he had been there a ton, I figured he would know what was good. I was hugely disappointed- but may go back again to give Joy Sushi another chance and order on my own. I had a much better experience when I came for lunch a few months ago!

The owner and staff were incredibly kind and treated me like family. The tempura was the best I've ever had crispy, flavorful, and absolutely delicious! The sushi was fresh and tasted amazing, and the sushi boat was especially fresh and delightful. I highly recommend this place

Unagi Donburi

Cute, delicious, and A MUST TRY. Joy Sushi a cute Japanese joint nestled in Mountain View was an amazing spot to eat. The service from Joy Sushi was exceptional with the servers bringing a familial vibe in the restaurant. One of the servers even helped me learn how to use my chopsticks. Overall great service. The ambiance was great as well, though there wasn't LOADS of seating. The interior was very nice with lots of decorations and on the inside you could see a lot of the action happening which was cool. The food itself was GREAT. I got the Unagi Donburi which was an eel dish. The dish came with a bomb unagi sauce that tasted a little like a zesty thicker teriyaki which complemented the fattiness of the eel amazingly. The dish was the perfect portion for me to finish in the restaraunt and be full. The dish also interestingly came with some orange savory fish roe that popped. The eel was SO tasty. It was a little fatty and very tender with no overfishy taste emanating. It was overall an amazing dish that came with lots of rice. The dessert was a little less appetizing. We got strawberry and mango mochi which was ok. It tasted like one of the Trader Joe's mochi, but the presentation was beautiful and the price wasn't exorbitant. Overall Joy Sushi is a must try it provides plenty of good sushi and other entrees like my unagi donburi if sushi isn't your thing. If you are ever in Mountain View make sure to come to Joy Sushi to enjoy the delicious food, familial service, great interior, and affordable dishes.

Let's start off by saying we came 30 minutes before this restaurant closed. All the staff was friendly and encouraged us to do takeout (which we were already planning). Our food was prepared quickly and packaged well. We had all the essentials that we needed; soy sauce, ginger and wasabi + napkins. Let's get to the food... there were almost too many options to decide from but the ones we picked were super tasty. My friend and I both got different dishes so we could sample from each other. I will need to go back to try more and would recommend this place to anyone in the area! Next time I will be more prepared and come earlier so I can visit inside the restaurant with whichever guest I bring!

Bento dinner combo with chicken teriyaki and spicy salmon roll.
Huey N.

I was craving chicken teriyaki, so I got the two item dinner combo. The chicken had a nice char and the teriyaki sauce was standard, but good. Spicy salmon rolls were my second entree option. The salmon wasn't mushed into a paste like in a normal spicy tuna roll, which was better because there was some actual fish texture. I liked the tempura a lot. The batter was crispier than I was expecting. My side of rice was noticeably dry. That was my only complaint - overall I left pretty happy.

First time at Joy Sushi and definitely won't be my last! I stopped by for a quick lunch and I must have just missed the lunch rush because it was empty when I arrived. However, the tables were full again about 10 minutes later. I ordered the chicken teriyaki bento. This is my go-to order when I go out for sushi and add a roll on the side. I didn't take a picture of it but the lion k roll was amazing. This restaurant is quite small but they also having seating right outside. If you come during lunch hours when it's completely packed, you will have to take your food to-go or wait until a spot opens up. The waiter was awesome and came over to check on us a few times. At the end of our meal, he gifted us 2 probiotic drinks to send us off. I'm not sure if that's the norm here, but it definitely boosted my spirits. If you're in the Mountain View area, you gotta check this place out.

We were pleasantly surprised that the wait was not very long at all. Probably due to the weather. The normally packed parking lot across the street was almost empty. We waited about 15-20 minutes before being sat at my favorite table near the window. We always order the extra special nigiri and a few additional pieces à la cart. We were lucky enough to try the 4 piece Japan fish combo special this time as well. My youngest orders the galbi and a side of rice. The galbi was extremely thick! I was so surprised. She really enjoyed it. Every table was packed per usual, including the sushi bar. I especially appreciate this family friendly spot for it's consistent service and value. You can't beat the nigiri special price! Just be prepared to wait if you arrive during prime dining hours. Service has always been consistently good here which you wouldn't expect for such a busy restaurant. Nothing fancy or stuffy.

I love this place because it serves two of my favorite comfort foods--sushi and ramen! They hit perfectly every time. I always leave happy. The sushi and ramen are consistently great, and the sushi is beautifully crafted and exceptionally delicious. What really stands out is the owner, Alex. He creates a welcoming experience and takes the time to engage with every customer, building a genuine connection--that's always been my takeaway. The atmosphere is inviting and the decor is thoughtfully curated. Highly recommend for both the food and overall experience

Long…read morewaits and forgotten orders due to online order overload, make it hard to justify dining in, despite the food quality and potential. This place is a bit of a love-hate relationship for me, and it's hard to explain. Things started off pretty smoothly. Based on reviews, I was excited to see that they offer both good sushi and ramen--and that part is true. The sushi is really good and solid overall: fresh fish, flavorful roll combinations, and well-balanced rice/ingredient ratios. The ramen is decent. The broth is flavorful, though the chashu doesn't quite compare to what you'd get at a dedicated ramen shop. Still, it's nice to have ramen as an option, especially when dining with a group. That said, service took longer than expected, especially considering ramen is usually quick to prepare. To their credit, they noticed the delay and offered us complimentary edamame, which we appreciated. About 45 minutes in, the restaurant started filling up fast. We were almost finished but decided to order sweet shrimp nigiri, something we always try when it's available. Unfortunately, that's where things went downhill. Once the crowd came in, it became very difficult to get the staff's attention due to the influx of both dine-in and online orders. At least three other tables around us were also missing items or had orders forgotten--just like us. We placed our nigiri order at 5:34 p.m. and didn't receive the two pieces until nearly 7:00 p.m. We didn't even realize how long we had waited until we were leaving. Ironically, once we mentioned it to an employee, the order came out in less than five minutes. The explanation given to multiple tables was that there were too many online orders and they couldn't stop them (??) To me, this felt more like a communication and prioritization issue. Dine-in customers shouldn't be waiting 45 minutes for two pieces of nigiri or a single maki roll. They did offer us 10% off the bill, but it didn't fully make up for the frustrating experience. The food itself is undeniably good, and this place has a lot of potential. However, I wouldn't gamble my time here again unless the service issues are addressed. I really hope they find a better system, because the quality of the food deserves it.

I was really hoping this would be a *the* place to go to if I wanted to treat myself to omakase without needing to make a trip. At $290 pp, I felt like the menu is worth it for the ingredients but the chef wasn't always able to execute properly. The menu is quite interesting as you get some unique pieces like octopus mouth, but when we had it, it felt a bit chewy. But overall, the menu felt special and there were a lot of bites we enjoyed! Most omakases follow a usual rhythm, and I was definitely surprised here as some pieces were less predictable. We got the five sake sampler and all the sakes were very good! I wish it was more of a pairing style though. I think it would have elevated the experience more if the waiter had shared what kind of bites each sake goes well with. The atmosphere was beautiful and calming - it's what I would expect at an omakase. The service was good but there were times when the waitress collected my plates while I was mid-bite. WOULD I COME HERE AGAIN? If I want a fancy omakase place, I think I would try another place. I still enjoyed my experience but am curious to try other places!!

It is a 20 course meal with a diverse range of seafood. The meal was delightful. It was my first time having a dry aged tuna , and I was nervous about it but it was delicious. There were other options like octopus and conch, generally I don't go for those things , but they prepared it really well. All the items were very tasty. My favorite item was the uni with king crab. The Ankimo dish was amazing , extremely fresh and unlike what I've had had other restaurants. We did ask for more wasabi since it didn't seem spicy enough for our taste. They also ask if you'd like to have less rice option as well. By the end of the meal , we were still slightly hungry so we stopped by for dessert at Maison Alyze after.
