My pedicure was good but the lady I had couldn't do overlay she got an older lady to do it and she was mean. She was digging her nails into my skin she needs to cut them down or off. And she did the overlay a mess it was not worth the extra $16 fee for overlay I won't be coming here again. read more

Went here earlier this week for mani/pedi. Service was fairly good, but a few things bothered me a little about the place. First, they were doing renovations while we were there. They were removing the chairs themselves and we're pulling up tile, so the woman doing my pedicure had to get up and help them for a while and then cleaned the floor behind them. Then she returned to my toes. She was just very distracted and so the pedicure felt rushed and not as relaxing as I would have hoped. The construction was also very loud! Second, the manicure wasn't the greatest - again, the woman was very distracted and just didn't do that great of a job with the painting. She smudged them while painting and didn't bother to fix it. It wasn't terrible, just not as good as other manicures I've had in the past. Overall, I think I'll try some other places in the area before going back. Never again, I felt rushed from the beginning. Then this waving car thing at the front starts going knock knock knock. I asked if it would stop as it was very annoying and loud, I'm told no, it always does that. The music was loud and also annoying. My nails we're wrapped to soak off the dip powder and I had my toes polished. I was about to leave without having the dip reapplied when they finally did something to make the noise the cat was making stop. I tried to tell her the last person filed too much she continually tells me idk. I'm telling her so she doesn't do the same. She says she's will fix them. I had to ask her to remove the product from my skin around my nail. I know this will cause lifting. The very next day my nails are peeling. Horrible service. Went in yesterday to get my nails done on my break, and they decided it was necessary to give me attitude when I asked them to make my shape a little bit less square. First off, they weren't able to do the design I wanted, but After my experience, I think they just didn't want to do it. I was very polite the whole time, but I wish I took my service somewhere else. The whole experience made me very unhappy, and I'm debating if I want to get my money back or not. We called prior as well to see how much regular polish with acrylics would be, and they said $25. This place sucks. Got a special pedicure for 25 bucks and it was not worth the extra 5. Can't image what you get for $20. I am from New York and generally you can get a perfect pedicure for less than $20, that includes exfoliating and a brief leg massage (here had to pay an extra 5 bucks for those things usually included!) The woman rushed the whole thing and it was totally sloppy, with visible brush strokes and not smooth filing. Then, they kept telling me it was dry. Because she had glopped on the polish, it wasn't and smeared in multiple places. In fact, she had to re-do a toe, so I had to sit even longer. Got a gel manicure here and within the week it had chipped. She very clearly rushed through painting them, putting on thick layers and not adding enough paint so that the nail shows through on some nails. I pointed this out and she refused to fix it and said it would go away. Within an hour of leaving two of the nails had bubbles. This was the worst experience I have ever had at a nail salon. My friends and I arrived on time to our 5 pm appointment. We waited around 15 minutes until we were seated. We then waited another 45-55 minutes. (One of my friends didn't get serviced until 6:15, I was serviced at 6 and the other was 5:50). They apologized for the wait, but we did not feel that an apology was enough compensation for the long wait time. My friend asked for a discount and was told we could be given a 5% discount. The pedicure was average, but the person giving me mine kept getting up and leaving throughout the service. I got my gel manicure and unfortunately they turned out lumpy and thick. My friend hadn't even had her nails painted yet by the time I finished, around 7. After seeing my nails, my friend no longer wanted to continue with the manicure. When I went to show her my nails, the person giving her a manicure had walked away and was gone for nearly 10 minutes. We told the person who offered us a 5% discount that that was not enough for the poor service we received and she became irritated and argued with us about the situation. I told her I don't want to argue, but that this situation was not acceptable. Her behavior was very unprofessional. We settled on being charged $40 per person (the pedicure is originally 28 and the gel manicure is 30). As we were paying, after we had agreed on a price, she continued to complain to us about how she felt it was unfair. She told us that many customers had to wait long times--even some up to two hours and said that we should just be more understanding like other customers had been. I explained that overbooking is a fault of a business manager not the customer, but once she continued arguing through us paying I told her to stop arguing with us and that we just wanted to leave. The expectations from a nail salon is to be relaxed and my friends and I left feeling drained and disrespected. If you choose to use this salon be aware that they will not take accountability for their faults--it will be a struggle to get compensated for poor service. read more

Overall, the space was nice and the fact they give a complementary beverage of water, Pepsi or wine is a plus if you spend more than $30. I came in on a Sunday around 3pm. They were quite busy, which is nice to see for a business. I decided to get the Deluxe Pedicure ($40) and treat myself. The massage portion was great, however, last minute they were running busy and sent the nail tech who was working on me to work on someone else next to me. Then another nail tech/manager came in to paint my nails and finish me up. She did it in such a fashion like she was trying to kick me out. It may have taken her a total of 2 minutes to paint my nails. She was also working on another client. I felt disrespected and gypped. The pedicures were 28$ which was fine and the brochure they gave us said a full set would be 25$ or more but when my friend started to do her nails they told her it would be around 80$ for what she wanted. when she told her she no longer wanted the design. they told her it would be 60$ for basic acrylics?? while the starting price was 25$. it was 35$ extra just for length. i've never been anywhere that charges more than 10$ for length. during all this i was getting pedicures with the two other girls and the women with us were laughing at us and being extremely rude. At the end of it all, while i was waiting for my feet to dry i was talking to another girl that was there who also got the same pedicure as me and they charged her 35$ while they told me it was 28$. their prices and bullshit they make up on the spot. on top of that they woman who over charged her also forced her to tip even though their service was ass and overcharged her 8$. Here for a second visit, I came back for a reason! The staff here is always plentiful, which is great when you're in a pinch or short on time and want to get in and out in a hurry. Today I had the most meticulous manicure and pedicure I've ever gotten and it was great. It's amazing when they take their time and tend to your every beck and call when paying for a service. This has been the worst experience I've ever had. I went in to go get my nails done with 3 of my friends. When we got there I asked a man who was there how much a set would be with certain designs (I showed him a picture). He said maybe around $40 or so, and I thought that was fine. They also had a book with prices displayed on it, it said a full set of acrylic would be $25 & up. I figured $40 wasn't bad considering I wanted some designs. I was then called up to begin getting my nails done, & when the lady was almost done placing the acrylic on all my nails she said it was going to be $72 or $82 if I wanted gel. I began to tell her that that wasn't what the man had told me, & that in the book they had displaying the prices it said $25 & up. She said it was that much money because of the length of my nails & the designs. I then told her I didn't want the designs anymore if it was going to be that much, & I told her to just do a plain color on all of them. I thought that price would've gone down to at least $30, but she said that would be $60. I asked her why and she said because of the length, my nails weren't too long. She cut about half the tip. From $25 to $60 she was adding $35 dollars JUST FOR THE "LENGTH". At other places I've been to they charge only about $5 for length. Their prices are a complete joke, and it is clear they make their prices up as they go. To add on to that the lady who attended me was extremely rude & not gentle at all. read more

I come here every 2 weeks...but today will be the last time!! My normal bail techs were off today, which is fine because I've gone to almost all of the other techs and haven't had a problem except for one. My pedicure was fine...picked out my colors for both my feet and my nails. When I sit down with the nail tech Tina, she pulls out her cell phone and her ear buds and just goes on and on about how she doesn't do nails like Nancy (my normal nail tech). I tell her that's fine because I'm not getting any fancy designs, just a solid color. But she keeps going on...so I become uncomfortable and tell her if he she doesn't feel comfortable doing my nails, I can go somewhere else. She tells me she can do them. I tell her BEFORE she starts that i want the same shape, but I do want them cut down a little bit. She says ok...and I ask her several times is she sure, and she says yes. She cuts them down, does my fill in, and then tries to shape them. She then tells me she doesn't know how to do that and i should come back another day. I now have to find somewhere that's open to fix what she messed up...smh. I will NOT be going back there. read more

This place has amazing customer service! I got a spa pedicure last night and not even an hour after I scraped my foot which scratched the polish off. When I went back to get it fixed they were closed for the evening. So I came back the very next day and asked if they could fix it. They said yes, but I really wanted the gel shellac nails so they wouldn't keep scratching. I asked if they might be able to do the gel for the difference in price. They said yes!! Now I'm from Dallas, and believe me when I say this would never happen there. I was so impressed with how fast and good she re-did my toes! I would recommend this salon to anyone looking to get a good pedi with friendly employees who take care of all their customers.. Even the new ones!! This is one of my favorite nail salons that I have been to in Richmond. I have been to many in Richmond but this is one that actually does things the safe and sanitary way, which is very important. I have been going every 2-3weeks and every time Madi and Jaycee take great care of my nails and feet and Kim does great on eyebrows as well as Jaycee. (jaycee did mine today and she has a wonderful technique to her craft.) They do accept card but cash is the best way to pay. I can't contain my excitement about finding Joy Nails. I recently moved from NYC, where great nail salons were on every corner. Since moving to Richmond, I have tried 4 different salons in the Carytown / Willow Lawn area and Joy Nails is by far the best! They do a fantastic job, have reasonable prices, are friendly and attentive, and are open on Sundays!! I usually never get color on my nails because they tend to chip within a day or two, but I decided to go for red and my nails still look 100% perfect (granted, it's only been 3 days, but that includes 2 days of hard gym workouts / weightlifting). Also, they did an amazing job on trimming my cuticles just enough to make them look good without overcutting and making them bleed (an issue I've had at Lily's Nail Salon). I was worried at first because I didn't recognize the nail polish brand I chose (Color Club), but it's standing up better than most other polish brands I've tried. They also carry OPI. The pedicure was wonderful as well. They scrubbed away my gross calluses until my feet were completely smooth. I'm actually a little sad that it's been too cold this week to wear sandals. On another note - they have a myriad of acrylic nail designs. I'm au naturale myself, but I couldn't help but admire the selection on the wall while my nails were drying (including one with a Nike logo (!?!) and another with an ombre fade-out effect). read more

Absolutely awful service. I've been to my fair share of nail salons and this one may take the cake of being the worst. My nail salon representative rushed through my nails and then when I asked her to correct one of the nails that wasn't done properly, she immediately blamed me saying "you messed them up already". Then the staff was so pressed to leave at 7:30 pm (even though they close at 8:00 pm) two staff members came over to me at the drying station and asked to see my nails. The guy who I think may've been the manager checked on me less than two minutes after the first staff (who just told me that my nails weren't dry). The manager told me I was finished then rushed me out leaving my nails very little time to dry. My nails were ruined as soon as I stepped out the door LITERALLY. Will not return. A note to the management- I go to a salon to relax not watch the news. I am trying to escape from that. The TV was on the news and quite loud. I asked the tech a few times if we could change the channel but she didn't understand. Finally I asked someone who I think was the manager. The other two ladies who had come in also wanted it changed bc it wasn't relaxing. One woman became offended bc she couldn't watch Trump. She continued to give us dirty looks and make little comments under her breath. I told her that a salon is supposed to be relaxing and it wasn't. The TV at Joy Nails is usually on a home improvement show or soap opera. I do not want to watch the news at full volume during a "relaxing" service. One woman was so upset by all of this that she left before her manicure bc she felt the techs were talking about her. I was the one that asked to change the channel. It's a shame that I can't escape politics for one hour. I am a fan of their actual services and have never had an issue like this in the past. Either keep the TV neutral or turn it off. read more

Only been here twice. FIRST OF ALL THEY CHARGE YOU FOR EVERY LITTLE THING. The first time i came here they charged me extra to get "long" nails and they were NOT even long at all. I understand nail techs charge for length but i got them short and they still charged extra. Second time i went a fill is not a flat price if your nails are long the fill is more & like i said i did not even have long nails smh. I just wanted orange tips literally simple af. they were tryna charge extra for that so i was like no way. i just got orange and wanted sparkle glitter on top of two nails on each hand. charged me for that! WTF its just unreasonable and stupid ive never been charged for freaking sparkles lol. & they do not know what LONG IS. also some of the nail techs are dirty. they sneeze and cough in their hands! & do not even wash them. it's disgusting. Started coming here in June and they were awesome. Quick, reliable, affordable. I came in 2 months ago and had THE WORST EXPERIENCE ever. My friend who is a transgendered female was with me. She was targeted by another customer who started an argument with us. When the other customer threatened her, I jumped up in defense. The workers didn't seem to care that they also have a trans female staff member. Why not protect your employee, who was also a trans, along with my friend who was told "if you wanna look and act like a man, I'm gonna treat you like a man" when she is now female. This is unacceptable. I left and haven't been back since. I returned today for a full set and there were at least 3 staff members sitting in pedicure chairs playing on their phones. When I walked in I was asked what I needed and one lady started to help me, then I was told my another lady that I would have to wait until Nancy, the manager got there because everyone else was busy. But I'm confused as to how playing on your phone is busy. Anywho, I won't be returning. Not with the lack of empathy and concern for their employees along with guests who were targeted. There's a great nail salon about 8 minutes down broad called Fantasy Nails. I'll be there. Where they have actual customer service skills, unlike this foul ass establishment. read more

Jacie gave me a great gel manicure ($25) and told me about their new anti UV-ray, Vitamin E gel manicure, a dipping gel or something. Joy Nails is an extremely clean and professional nail salon. I was a "walk-in" and didn't have to wait long.! My technician Maddie was friendly and knowledgeable. I appreciate that they put a lining in the pedicure bowls. The only reason I gave a 4-star rating instead of a 5 is because the basic pedicure didn't include a heel scrub; I had to purchase the next step up for my pedicure. Decided to try Joy Nails because the salon I go to was closed on Sundays. First, they had me soak my hands in the wrong solution for 25 minutes. Then the nail tech took a selfie while doing my nails. Then she cut me while doing my cuticles. I actually was bleeding. Then she didn't polish them well, I'm assuming because if you don't polish them all the way down with shellac, you will come back sooner? More $ for them. All in all, terrible experience. I been going here a few times now, I was happy until this past week I went to get my regular gel manicure. All the time I had gone there I had never gotten charge to take off the gel to get a new gel manicure. They literally charge me $2 dollars to take off the gel off one single nail. Like never in my life have I been to a place where they charge you to take off the fell you have on! On top of that, I had someone who did an ok job but then the UV light wasn't working properly and I keep tell her and the girl next to her too but no I had to deal with it and not explode in anger. So then she puts more coat on one nail and makes one nail darker then the other 9 but that not it. Since the machine wasn't working it wasn't fully cooking like i would say l, then she put the final coat on and then i told her she has already done it and she did it again. The owner comes and I explain to her and she like but she said she hasn't put the final coat on. Argh at this point I wanted to walk out or had them do my gel manicure again but with someone else. But no, she like you come back another day and I'll fix that one single nail. Like no lady my whole gel manicure suck, they look ugly and already coming off because of so many coat that they put on.
