Everything was fresh and tasty! Highly recommended if you're looking for a wonderful Asian Buffet.

Just finished lunch at the Joy Luck Buffet in Port Orange and I am stuffed. They have an almost awesome selection. There is seafood, ribs, Chinese, sushi, fried foods, salad and dessert. The sushi is decent, although the roles were not wrapped well, some fell right apart. There were a good amount of veggies, my favorite was the green beans and the mushrooms. They had green mussels in a spicy ginger sauce and black mussels in a red sauce. I stuffed myself on those. There were a lot of dessert options, but none I was particularly interested in. I had some fresh pineapple. Really wished they had watermelon and the ice cream was all artificially. For the price it was well worth it. Especially for lunch. I will return one day because I enjoyed myself.

This is my favorite Chinese buffet not only in Daytona area, but anywhere I've been to.

DH and I have been thinking about trying out this buffet but we weren't sure. I'm glad we did! We went at lunch on a Monday. The restaurant is clean, nicely decorated and the staff is continually bringing hot food onto the buffet and cleaning up on the buffet tables. Our server got our drink order and we went to get our food. They honestly were fantastic! They were attentive (refilled drinks promptly and often, cleared plates as soon as we set them aside). When they noticed that we were slowing down our eating, they discreetly dropped off the bill but said no hurry. It was lunch time and most people probably only had 1 hour for lunch so we understood. This was not meant to hurry us along and even after we paid, they said "no hurry". They have various sections of food: Sushi, salad, soups and dumplings, entrees (bourbon chicken, General Taos chicken, pepper beef, etc.) desserts. I thought the food was pretty tasty. The garlic shrimp were spicy which surprised me the pepper beef was good. The egg drop soup was delicious, mixed vegetables and salted mushrooms were awesome. They didn't have the boneless bbq spare ribs but their rice was fantastic. I was surprised that they didn't have broccoli chicken or broccoli beef but they did have bourbon chicken which was great. DH liked the sushi and bbq ribs (real ribs with sweet sauce on them), Salt and pepper chicken, and the General Tao's chicken was good (not super spicy). We didn't get a chance to taste everything but it seemed like they had dishes to please the entire family. They even had tilapia! The chopsticks were at the buffet stations and there were extra silverware between the stations. The plates were nicely decorated. The entire restaurant had a fantastic atmosphere and the hosted helped us when I had questions about what was in one of the dishes. She noticed I was asking the person who was refilling the food and she helped me out. The only reason that I didn't give them 5 stars is because I like a lot of the dishes I mentioned above that they didn't have. I also like a buffet that has a hibachi station and unfortunately they don't have one. Would I return? Yes! The food I ate was delicious and I left full and happy!

There is not many options here.... There's two places to get food from and I tried a good amount of the meats and I didn't like any of them. The overall vibe is really weird, the seating we got sat at was by the food tables so it felt like everybody was like all in our space constantly. The waitress was quick to put the Check on the table while we were eating reaching her arm across our table to put it on the other side of me, and interrupted a conversation to have me hand it to her when my card was in it. There is signs everywhere saying don't take more then you can eat which makes it awkward trying a bunch of food and not liking it and looking like you're just wasting food and getting looks. My friends stomach was hurting before we even got out of the door. None of the food I got really tasted good except the lo mein. My friend said some of the food tasted like it shouldn't. The fried rice was ok too. Probably won't be coming back which is a shame since we were so excited to visit.

It's mediocre all you can eat Chinese food including sushi and sashimi. The servers are not very friendly. The food is mass produced and inconsistent in quality. But there is enough variety that we did find things we enjoyed. I do not recommend the crab, i was pretty excited for it but it seemed tasted quite fishy tasting. Also, there was an overhead fluorescent light that kept flickering. It was annoying and when others patrons pointed it out to the server they just nodded and laughed.

Variety!! Excellent

The restaurant is located in a strip mall - clean, neat with a few tables and booths (but you can also reserve for large groups). This place was on the list to try and I'm so glad we did! First, Alice, who is one of the owners, waited on us and could not have been more friendly or personable - she is a joy! The restaurant serves a number of different Asian cuisines - in addition to Chinese there are Thai, Japanese and Vietnamese offerings as well. We started with pan-fried gyoza which were SO good - fresh and flavorful. Hubs loves kimchi so had to try theirs - he inhaled the bowl and declared it amazing (I'm not a fan but it did smell yummy and garlicky!!). He enjoyed it so much he got an order to go as well. I tried my go-to Chinese favorite Kung Pao Chicken - it was quite good, well spiced, full of fresh veggies and lots of peanuts. Next time I'll probably get it with shrimp or tofu. Hubs had Pad Kee Mao with chicken (Thai hot!) and loved it. Although we were too full, the almond pudding on the menu did sound good - maybe next time!

Let's start by saying I'm from NY and worked over 20 years near Chinatown. It would be unfair to…read morecompare this restaurant to those in NY so I will compare China Star with other restaurants in the area. I ordered several basic dishes. If you can't get the basics right, then you're in the wrong business. Before you say anything, I did not eat all of this at one sitting. Eggroll - A bit small but not bad. Could have used some bits of pork in the filling. Fried pork dumplings - The first one I tried was very dry. I took the rest of the dumplings and placed them in a steamer for a few minutes. That brought them back to life. In most area restaurants, the dumplings are terrible. They are small with little filling and are pretty much comparable to frozen dumplings from the supermarket. Some of them probably are. China Star makes their own. While they are more like shumai than the traditional potstickers, they are very tasty and have the right amount of filling. I would probably lean towards the steamed dumplings next time and I would fry them myself. Sweet and sour chicken - This was done very well. The coating was light and not at all greasy. So many places use too much batter and overcook them. Beef lo mein - Extremely well done. Lots of tender beef with properly sauced noodles. I really enjoyed this. Spareribs and fried rice combo - This is the only dish that I had a problem with. The fried rice had no flavor. The ribs were overcooked and overly sauced. They were a sloppy mess to eat and not worth getting dirty over. Since moving to Daytona Beach Shores 4 years ago, I have been searching for decent Chinese food. Several high rated restaurants were obviously rated by people who don't have a clue. China Star is the first local Chinese restaurant I would go back to. They are definitely not great, but better than any others I have tried in the area. I look forward to trying some other dishes. I just won't order the ribs again.

Our favorites were the roast bbq pork buns (baked char siu bao), lotus leaf wrapped rice (lo mai gai), and the chewy fried dimsum (ham sui gok). And the radish cake with XO sauce! Good spice level. Service is friendly and prompt. The tasteful interior is nicely lit, not too bright. There is bar seating but most sit in one of the many booths, and there are bigger tables for large groups. I almost can't believe dimsum this tasty exists in Port Orange. We're excited to go back and try the roast duck!

I got the beef brisket noodle soup and my father got the braised pork belly and taro. Stand out favorites were the baked pork buns and sesame balls, both perfectly cooked and filled. The siu mai were available as shrimp, pork, or beef - we got shrimp and yes it was nice shrimp but I prefer the shrimp/pork mixture. Seafood dumplings were good as was the eggplant. The black bean pork rib tips were a bit underseasoned and the soup dumplings had only a few drops of soup and too thick skins BUT if you just think of them as ginger pork dumplings they're great. Brisket noodles soup was good but nothing outstanding. The pork belly was thick cut and perfectly cooked tender and fatty and while we assumed it would be chunks of taro it turned out to be minced into the sauce. Mostly sweet without much other nuance but adding a bit of the chili paste we asked for made it better. Only complaint is that after our final dish came out we never saw our waiter again. A younger waiter started working the floor which only had 3 other tables occupied. We had to flag him down for take out boxes and the check after sitting there for 10 minutes despite him having visited once to refill water when we were already done. If I'm craving dim sum and had to be in the area I'd go again but I'll still be going to Orlando to really scratch that dim sum itch.

The restaurant is small and the decor is what I'd call cozy chaotic - lots of beautiful Thai shrines and figures, but then funky Christmas lights strung over whimsical photos. Don't let the "Reserved" tags on every table cause you concern, we and every party that came in after us were assured we could sit anywhere. We started with the Som Tam papaya salad at a medium and it had a perfect kick with the sour-sweet-funk punch of lime, fish sauce, rock sugar, probably some tamarind? It was fresh, cool and crunchy and a refreshing start to the meal. I had to try the Summer Breeze Rolls because I was actually first introduced to this restaurant by their stalls set up at various local farmers markets and the peanut sauce is out of this world, perfectly sweet and salty and a little curry spice kick as well. The rolls were wrapped a bit loose but I love that they grill the shrimp and also stuff mostly with lettuce instead of a ton of noodles so the rolls were more crisp than squish/starch. I got the panang curry medium and I think I could have gone a step up on heat but it was a nice mild burn that let the flavor of the sauce shine through. The veggies were crisp, the chicken tender, and I was happy with every bite. My father got the Lard Na 100 with crispy duck (a $10.50 upcharge but so worth it, so well cooked and crisp!) and loved it, just had no heat despite ordering it medium. I was impressed with the noodles - wide rice noodles but cooked firm so they didn't fall apart but had a delightful chew. The service was friendly, attentive, and super helpful with suggestions on heat level since we hadn't been before and didn't know if they pulled their punches (they don't, so start at a level below what you usually get elsewhere). We're now on a quest to eat our way through the menu!
