A family owned business making fresh Chinese food with nice purity of flavors! Fresh veggies and not over salted or loaded with MSG - what a refreshing change from others who mask the food with too much soy and salt. We ordered carry out - Chicken with Broccoli, Wonton Soup and Long Life Vegetarian with a side of black bean sauce. The vegetables are bright and crisp! The wonton soup is simple broth and what seems to be handmade yummy wontons and a few greens floating on top- very soothing! A side of fresh crispy wontons came separate to float atop! The couple is kind and friendly and the place is clean. They have a menu for heath conscious people - veggies steamed without oil, no cornstarch, no salt - i really appreciate this as you can control your condiments as desired. They can adjust your spice level to how you like you like it- let 'em know! Note - you need to request soy etc - which I appreciate too- very thoughtful and less waste! Better than most to-go chinese food places. I like spicy asian dishes made extra extra spicy. Some places will give chili oil so you can adjust if you like it more spicy than most people. I tried to order a spicy dish as EXTRA-EXTRA spicy. I was told they could only make it 1 times extra spicy. not cool. She wouldn't make it the way i wanted it so I usually go to other places who will accommodate me. Thats the main thing that bugs me about this place. Also they dont have a poo poo platter. They have food to go only. We have been here twice now and it is going to be our go to for Chinese. We are happily eating our way through the menu. The combo meals have so much food, that so far I haven't been able to finish my dinner and alway have leftovers. And only $12! The lady will usually ask if you want spicy or not spicy. This is the kind of place you give 5 stars to for lots of reasons, sometimes it's not only about the food it's the total package that gets them to the 5 star review. The location is in a dying strip mall that may survive if they can fill the empty store fronts with local businesses. There were a few national brands that didn't survive like a Dollar Tree and a Save A Lot but the small guys seem to be holding on. Difference is a take out / eat in establishment ran by the most friendly people you'll ever meet. I didn't ask but it looks like the mother, father and son were working, the phone never stopped ringing and the wok never sat idle. This is as close as I've gotten to "home made" authentic Chinese cooking. This place was really clean and the kitchen was an open design so you could watch all the cooking I loved that about this place. I like it hot and I mean really hot not just spicy but in terms that is understood universally "Thai Hot" that's how I ordered it and that's how they made it. Of course I played it safe this was my first visit here so I opted for the sliced beef and broccoli, fried rice, an egg roll and wonton soup. It was all fantastic! I may have passed a dozen or so Chinese take out joints in route here and the next time I crave authentic Chinese I will make the drive again. Being that this is my first trip to Daytona Beach wanted to try something other than a chain restaurant, we were craving some Chinese food and I saw that this restaurant had a lot of good reviews on yelp; let's say I was not disappointed from stepping foot into Difference restaurant I could tell by the smell & the aroma that this was authentic Chinese food. Although we got there a little late Little closer to closing time all her food was nice and fresh I would recommend this place to anyone eggrolls excellent fried rice some of the best I've had on the East Coast, if I could give this restaurant 20 stars I would definitely coming back next time it might I'm in Daytona Beach!! read more

We are in Daytona for a vacation and looking for a Chinese Restaurant for dinner and found Difference on Yelp and decided to give them a try. The place could be described as a 'hole in the wall', it's also a hidden gem, hiding in plain sight in a shopping center that is not exactly upscale on a very busy corner, right across the bridge from Daytona Beach Shores in Port Orange. There are only three wooden tables in this predominantly take out restaurant,and the double doors were standing open as you walk in to a large, brightly lit, spotless in sight kitchen, behind the counter, whose cleanliness and mise en place is on par with any fine hotel or restaurant. The restaurant appears to be run by what I am guessing are three family members. I picked up two menus from the counter, and was absolutely blown away by the low prices. The gentleman who took my order apologized for the dining room air not being really air conditioned cool, but it was quite comfortable with the ceiling fans. My wife and I both decided on the dinner specials, which include a choice of soups, a choice of egg roll or spring roll, choice of rice, and choice of entree. My Sesame Chicken was $8.95 and Kim's Chicken with Vegetables was $7.95. The Wonton Soup had three perfect dumplings placed in a china cup of beautiful flavorful clear consume. The Hot and Sour Soup was chocked full of mushrooms and wood ear in a nappe consistency base that was slightly white peppery and slightly rice wine vinegary. They were brought to our table with a bowl of fresh crispy fried noodle, which is when I felt guilt about the $2.00 tip I left on my $18.00 charge check, for what I thought was going to be just counter service. I went back to the counter and gave another $1.07 in cash for another can of Coke, since I did not want to look stupid charging that small of an amount for the refill I needed to quench my thirst from the heat of my soup. The knife work on the vegetables in the Chicken and Vegetables entree would have earned a A from me if it had been presented by my culinary institute students. The zucchini, onions, snow peas. broccoli. mushrooms, baby corn, water chestnuts, cabbage and carrots were all cooked perfectly; done but retaining their texture. The sliced chicken was extremely tender and flavorful. This was presented with brown rice and a fat nicely browned and crispy egg roll. I had the Sesame Chicken, a generous portion of freshly breaded and flash fried in the wok batonnets of chicken, tossed in a sweet brown sauce with sesame seeds. It was crispy on the outside and juicy in the middle. It was served along with broccoli crowns and white rice. Two wise fortunes were enclosed in the plastic wrapped fortune cookies that concluded our meal. We were both full.....but you know what they say about Chinese food..... The restaurant had a steady stream of carry out/ to go business going while we were there. The name of the restaurant is "Difference". This is definitely not your typical strip center Chinese place, come in and order and watch the mise en place in action. read more

While staying in Daytona. I ordered from this establishment. Ordered egg drop soup which was different from what I usual have. It was white in color instead of the traditional yellow w few cabbage vegetables. It was pretty good. Also, I had chicken and broccoli extra spicy. I honestly hated the food here. Yes, this place is truly a difference. Different tasting rice compared to other takeout places and different tasting meat. The meat was shredded which was kind of strange and the garlic chicken which I had ordered had little hard balls of something in it which were defiantly teeth breakers and I had to spit out. It looks like a typical greasy Chinese take-out, and it's priced like one, but the food is tasty and fresh; the "difference" is definitely different. The dishes are not really creative; it's typical Chinese-American fare. But there is some obvious pride and training in the food, which is just simply better than the rest. Excellent food, a friendly staff, misleading by its location in a run down shopping strip. It is a restaurant, though it is the size of a tiny walk in take out joint. What a disappointment, I rated this place 5 last year. I loved this place until now. I ordered an egg roll, a pint of wonton, and shrimp fried rice. The wanton soup was bland, in that pint there were 2 wonton and 2 leaves of whatever Chinese vegetable that was. That was all nothing else. The shrimp fried rice was just about that, 6 tiny shrimp, and fried rice, no other vegetables except peas, and there weren't many of those either. The food is prepared fresh when you order and is much better than the things you are used to finding on a buffet elsewhere. To be honest I had low expectations because of the area and lack of quality food options, I assumed this would be another South Daytona dud. Boy was I wrong! I've traveled everywhere and previously lived in California and I must say I actually very impressed with the food quality and cleanliness, it's some of the best (Americanized) Chinese food I've ever had! The sautéed dry green beans are insanely tasty, and they even specially prepared me General Tso's shrimp instead of chicken (I don't eat chicken), which wasn't on the menu, they were happy to accommodate me and it was divine! We just arrived in town on our vacation and wanted to get some good Chinese. So we ordered from this restaurant. I ordered two dinners last night. Pork fried rice and shrimp fried rice. Had two sides, wonton soup and two egg rolls. I am sorry to say our meals had no taste what so ever. Soup and egg rolls could not eat. I went by the reviews I had read, to determine what Chinese restaurant to order from. The fried rice was very dark brown color with no favor. This is the best Chinese food we've had in this area. You can tell everything is made top quality. Flavors and ingredients are really fresh and not too heavy like other take out Chinese can get. The location is a little sketchy but the store is very clean and the employees are very nice. Combos come with soup, egg roll, rice and meat all for under $10 which I think is totally worth it. I would definitely recommend this place for Chinese takeout over anywhere else in the area. Absolutely deserves 20 stars if I could give them. Great job! read more

Just moved to the area and have ordered from them twice now. This is the last time. Food takes way too long for delivery, first time was 45 minutes (barely acceptable), second time was over 1 hour and 15 minutes. When I called to find out the status I was told "we can't tell you, we are too busy." Their food was good, just bad delivery service and customer service. read more

We tried Difference for the first time today. We moved to Ponce Inlet about a year and a half ago and were looking for our "go to" places when we want certain foods. Our food was prepared as we asked, everything was delicious. The egg rolls were to die for. The servings were generous. Pros: loved that they delivered right to our hotel room. It was such a treat after being in the sun all day to not have to venture out. Food arrived quickly and was piping hot. Really fresh egg drop soup: was delicious. Loved that there were two size options for entrees. Value for the food was good. Cons: the food overall wasn't as great as we had hoped. It's certainly better than standard buffet-Chinese food, but we may be spoiled by a great local place in Atlanta we frequent. The beef and broccoli was tasty and the Mongolian beef was good as well, but neither were overwhelming. The Mongolian beef was a little heavy on the onions and scallions and a bit light on the beef. Overall: if you'd like good Chinese food in Daytona, definitely give it a try, especially if you'd like it delivered to your door. However, if you're looking for really amazing food, there are other options in the area that may be more pleasing. read more
