I love all my experiences at joy bowl. From the fresh food to the friendly staff and the thank you notes on each to go bag, it's clear this restaurant cares about its costumers. I love the online ordering process- it makes ordering so easy! I love to build my own bowl with fresh tuna and salmon. The toppings are a wonderful assortment of classic salad ingredients with the addition of the delicious Japanese options. There are many sauces available on their menu, and my favorite are the unagi sauce and the miso wasabi. I haven't tried them all, but I'm sure they each have a delightful, unique flavor! Beyond disappointed, this location had to be top notch. After stopping in 3x in the past month I have had no change. The bowls are small, limited sauce making bowl dry, and a huge cut in protein. I used to frequent here two-three times a week but in the past year it has fallen off. I miss the Joy Bowl where bowls were packed, employees weren't on the phone talking to friends, and napkins/utensils were stocked. I do not plan to come back unless changes are made. read more

Let me start out by saying that this place is a literal diamond. Poke is one of my favorite things to eat and unfortunately there's just not a lot of places around that can serve up a good bowl. I've noticed that there's been a few more poke joints popping up in various areas (Northampton, West Hartford, etc.) Let me say this - I've been to those places but this is the spot. This is the CLEAR winner against those places. Personally, I love building my own bowl - I like to do a mix of half rice and half salad, then tuna, salmon, and some sort of spicy fish (tuna or salmon depending on my mood). Now here's where the other places go wrong - they give you a TEENY TINY portion of the star of the show. This is where Joy Bowl shines. They make the poke the clear STAR of the dish. That's what poke is all about, anyways. They also have a wonderful selection of mix-ins, including veggies and fruits! The sriracha aioli (spicy mayo) was also very good - the only thing I wished they also had would be sesame oil. We asked and they stated they only have olive oil. But oh well, I can live without it. Anywho - if you've never had a poke bowl before, think of this place as a Chipotle - you pick your base, meats, and then toppings. Then you mix everything up in a sauce and enjoy! Off the top here, I had written a four star review for this location in Breckwood Plaza in Springfield from years ago. However I noticed recently that review was somehow transferred to the Joy Bowl in East Longmeadow, a relatively new location which definitely wasn't open when I made my review, so that review has been deleted. So now I have a new review for this location. My wife and I typically do take-out, each of us getting a build-your-own poké bowl (usually the three protein option) and the steamed vegetable gyoza. We used to get the regular (meat) gyoza and honestly either option is very good. Their dipping sauce does a lot of the heavy lifting as it is very flavorful. The build-your-own poké bowls can be made with a variety of bases (including white/brown rice, lettuce/mixed greens or seaweed salad, or "noodles" (which is effectively linguine)), proteins, fruit and vegetable add-ins, sauces, and a few toppings. This variety gives you the opportunity to try a lot of different things on ensuing visits until you eventually find a mixture that works for you. Once again the sauces typically do a lot of the work as the proteins are generally unseasoned and vegetables are uncooked, but for me it's about finding a good mix of textures and not overwhelming yourself with sweetness (which can happen with the mango or pineapple or the unagi (eel) sauce). I have visited this Joy Bowl enough times to say my review would be five stars if not for one thing: inconsistent bowl filling. My wife and I have recently gone whole food plant-based with a carbohydrate limitation, so rather then getting rice for the base we have been opting for the lettuce/mixed greens salad. Lately this has meant that the quantity of filling has not been as satisfactory, an issue which seems to depend on who is filling the bowl. Salad can be smushed down moreso than rice but, more often than not in recent weeks, whoever has been filling the bowl hasn't made an effort to compensate for this, and we have been left wanting more food. If you are getting rice or noodles for a base, this inconsistency probably won't be an issue for you. For me, for the price being paid, and at a time when there's not a lot of money to spend on eating out, this dissatisfaction has lead to us opting not to go to Joy Bowl. In summation, Joy Bowl's food is quite tasty and satisfying...when there's a reasonable effort made by the person building the bowl. (It also wouldn't hurt to find a way to keep the entrance door from slamming shut, but I suppose that's a bigger issue for the people dining in and the people who work there!) read more

Since moving back from Hawaii, I've had yet to find anywhere in the area that serves good poke bowls since I'm very picky when it comes to poke. This has DEFINITELY become my new go-to spot! You can get 2 or 3 types of protein along with up to TEN add-ons for less than $12, plus they aren't stingy with their portion sizes! SO worth it. They also offered us free fruit on the side! My favorite is brown rice, spicy ahi & spicy salmon with seaweed salad, edamame, mango, tempura flakes, nori, masago, & unagi sauce/sweet shoyu. I ate my entire bowl before I could even take a decent picture, but I've attached the happy hour specials for those who are interested! The shop is smaller than I expected as there are several businesses in the plaza. The owners have more than made up for it with a very clean modern decor. Dim lighting makes the in dining experience sensory friendly. When we walked in, the line was almost out the door. Most customers look like they are college students from the area. Service was quick and friendly and we made it to the order area within 10 minutes. The set up reminds me of Subway as you have base ingredients (rice, lettuce etc) and then you can individualize your bowl with choice of protein, veggies, fruit, dressing and toppings. You also have your choice of fountain drinks or bottled beverages. Their seating area is very small; but I never will fault a place for this as long as the area is clean. We chose to eat in house and were able to get a table with out any issues (it seems that most people take their bowls to go). Now I've heard of raw food movement, but never gave it much thought. One bite in and I was a total convert. My bowl had chicken, brown rice, corn, radish, red onion, cabbage, chick peas, mango, pineapple, carrots, cucumbers, green onions and probably 3 other things I can't remember. The different textures in the bowl were amazing and fresh. The hot and cold ingredients married well together. (Yes the chicken and rice are not technically raw) My only complaint would be that they only have one size bowl. I would love to be able to take some home for later as an option. I went around 8pm and it wasn't very busy which was great b/c we got our food done right away. Service was great - staff was friendly. I got a poke bowl w/ white rice, spicy tuna, spicy crab, shrimp, masago, yellow daikon pickle, corn, avocado, tempura flakes, shredded nori, spicy mayo and wasabi ponzu sauce. I'm obsessed with this place. I discovered them on DoorDash when my microwave broke and I was waiting for the replacement to be shipped, and ended up ordering practically a bowl a day for two weeks. My new microwave is here now but I still order a few times a week. I love the Joy Classic but my favorite is building my own bowl. I get extra sauces to reach the $12 for free delivery on DashPass and then use them for other meals during the week. All the spicy ones are just the right level without being overwhelming. I'm particularly a fan of the sriracha aioli and the sweet shoyu layered with spicy on the top with all the sushi and sweet at the bottom with my salad. I've tried salmon, ahi tuna, spicy crab, spicy tuna, scallops, and beef for the proteins. They're all good, and super fresh! Ambiance is great, small joint but well decorated. Staff are very helpful and friendly. A Chipotle style ordering format, you pick your rice (white or brown), your protein (charged based on how many different you have) and then unlimited toppings. Bowls only come in one size, and although they look small, you leave feeling satisfied. Only reason for the 4 stars was the salmon had a fishy taste. Let me start by saying I have sushi several times a week. I'm from Houston and have been so disappointed by the lack of good cuisine in the Springfield area. I found this on Yelp and was pleasantly surprised. I never thought such a modern, clean, and new place would exist here. I had their salmon and their tuna. Their portions are generous. It was extremely fresh and everything was so delicious. The people working behind the counter were extremely polite and gave us complimentary fruit cups. We came in right before they were closing and they were kind enough to uncover the food and serve us. We asked if we could eat in (we were starving and it's snowing outside) and they were more than to have us. I was in a couple of weeks ago, and the two customers in front of me both had their masks loose around their neck. One of the women working also had her nose out of the mask.
