We decided not to come here because my husband told me he tried to call the restaurant to order a bottle of champagne for me and my girlfriends who were planning on coming to this restaurant to celebrate my birthday, and they said no. Came in for a reservation last Friday night. I was really excited to try out the deep dish pizza after hearing good things about the place. We were seated and served nothing but water for 30 minutes. No waiter approached our table, we asked "Will we be served anytime soon?" to the waitstaff that kept refilling our water, and were told twice "i'll check" and "soon" with a brushoff. The place wasn't even half full but it was really clear they have a waitstaff understaffing or table negligence issue. And this was for a booked reservation. Nobody came to start our order on Wine/Drinks, and after about 30 whole minutes of being ignored we got up, spoke to a manager about the issue, and left without eating. Hopefully this is just new-location growing pains, because it was a shame to see them really dropping the ball entirely on service. Extra things to consider: if you want a deep dish pizza there's a warning on the menu that it requires waiting 45 minutes to cook. The thing we didn't realize was that 45 minute pizza warning applies to also getting a waiter to come to your table, apparently. read more

Definitely a 5 star restaurant for Boston. Michael Scelfo has always been a standout in the Boston food scene, which has unfortunately remained beyond underwhelming for many years. However, his food never felt like you were eating boring Boston food, it's far more creative and interesting. Dishes - Crispy Rice Suppli - Excellent texture, these are satisfying starters. - Olive, Egg, Iceberg Salad - Another solid and unique appetizer you will be happy with. - Fried Cauliflower Pasta - This is where Scelfo differentiates himself from other Boston chefs. What would seem to be a fairly simple and straight-forward pasta has layers of depth that keep you interested while being absolutely delicious. - THE F R-9532 Pizza - Another excellent and unique choice. Not your standard pizza, layers of flavor and the orange zest? (I think) worked very nicely. In a Boston food scene filled with overpriced, mediocre food, Josephine (or any of Scelfo's restaurants) are a complete no brainer. read more

A delicious restaurant! Loved everything about our experience here! We were in the Boston area for 1 night staying at the hotel the restaurant is connected to. Looked it up and noticed that the reviews were good. We ordered a wedge salad, garlic knots, another appetizer and 2 pizzas. The dressing on the salad may have been the best salad dressing we have ever tasted. The pizzas were ultra thin and crispy. The restaurant itself is beautifully designed as well. We look forward to returning to the Boston area again to enjoy another wonderful meal at Josephine's! read more

We took my niece and her husband here last night. The service was exceptional. The place is new, so they're still working out some kinks, but they were very communicative and apologetic about everything. The managers were very present, making sure we were happy. They were also receptive and appreciative of any words of advice we offered. The only reason for the four stars for "Atmosphere" is that we were seated outdoors (as we requested when making the reservations) but there wasn't much screening between where we were and Somerville Avenue, which isn't a very picturesque street and the table was a bit small. The interior was beautiful and the seats were comfortable. The lighting was also nice (I'm an architect, so ambiance is important to me). We will definitely be back. read more

The food was good. I will give them that. However, be aware the portion sizes are small and some are meant to be family style. Also 2 of our 4 meals came out 5 mins before the others. Which was awkward for such a small party. When we arrived we finally had to flag down a server after 25 mins to place our order. At the end of the meal we again had to ask for our check. The hostess was kind, the busier was outstanding and attentive. He kept our waters filled was hustling all around the restaurant. I was not impressed with our server. I loved the interior of this place and while we only ordered takeout, I definitely would like to go back in person. The burger was gigantic and really flavorful. I appreciate the work the chef did to make it feel like a unique experience. My wife's pizza was enormous(I think she made it 3 meals) and there seemed to be equal in crafting something original with their pizza. Definitely worth a second adventure. read more

Food is so very good. We came in on a Wednesday night to have a late night snack. We sat at the bar and had their meatballs which are some of the best I have ever had hands down. Their homemade pasta is very very good. We had excellent service at the bar. We came in again on Friday for dinner before a red socks game and the pizza was very good. A little oily but very good none the less. We sat at a table and the service could not have been better. This is a truly great restaurant I would be a regular at if I was not leaving town in a few days. It's a beautiful venue and very high end with food to match. read more

came here with some friends last night so excited but it was honestly pretty mid. 1) my friend and i each ordered deep dish pizzas. we each got our own set of cutlery which included a pizza server, pizza cutter, steak knife, and giant spoon that we couldn't figure out the purpose of. i thought this was over the top but when the pizza came was so burnt and tough, i understood why we were so weaponized. in any case, not what i want from my pizza. super bummed because this is what i was most excited for and is supposed to be their specialty, but it was beyond disappointing. 2) timing: one friend ordered a burger, another friend ordered a thin crust pizza. the burger came out about 20 minutes before our food, and the thin crust pizza took an additional 15 minutes. i understand that the deep dish pizza takes a while longer but you'd think they would time the burger to start later so that all of our food could be served at the same time. really don't understand why the thin crust pizza came out so much later than the deep dish though. 3) drinks were fine- i ordered an espresso martini without bailey's (6/10) and asked for a custom drink with vodka and their pistachio honey syrup which was pretty good. overall i probably won't be back unless they can figure out how to not burn their pizza and time the food better. read more

4 stars might be generous for my first overall impression to be honest but I will give it 4 because I'll likely want to return to try it again. The service was quite slow - I had to ask for a waitress to come take our order and the food came out pretty slow. The arancini was small but tasty and cocktail I had was just okay. The pizza I split with my boyfriend was quite good, though pretty full of oil. We had "I think we're alone now". I guess it was a good thing that it was oily because it was filling for a pizza we decided to split. The sweet hot honey on pepperoni was the best part. As mentioned, will probably come back to try more. I actually wish there were a few more items on the menu. We looked over at orders of garlic knots and wished we had gotten that - would have been nice to just been offered some free bread or a mini appetizer to accompany the meal but maybe that's asking for too much. I'd only come again when it seems less busy because they didn't seem to be able to handle it when a crowd started coming in. read more

arrived for a 11am reservation.. only one other 2 top was in the restaurant when we ordered.. we were told the kitchen is "shotgun style" meaning food comes out as ready. the table ordered a plethora of items.. I ordered a $15 fruit plate.. after 40 minutes passed & the majority of the tables hot food had come out & I witnessed a fruit plate going out to a table that had sat 20 minutes after us, i asked a server who was running food to the table about the fruit plate she responded "yea, ok" the fruit still didn't arrive until 12:20 when everyone was basically done with their food. & when we questioned the timing of the fruit we were told "I thought you didn't want it" ... the people were nice & the food I saw look nice but my experience was horrible read more

Where do I begin. We had the most splendid night out at Josephine! Delicious craft cocktails and some of the best, doughy pizzas we've found in Boston. We had to wait a bit for our second round of drinks, and our server was so apologetic that she didn't charge us for them. A real class act! Everything was excellent! This is our third time to Josephine and we were even more impressed than the first two times. Excellent service from the sweet and vivacious Gracie at the outdoor bar to Oscar our server and the fantastic sommelier who I regret I did not get his name! And yes! They have a sommelier! I had skipped this restaurant at first because I generally do not associate fine dining with any restaurant that has pizza on the menu or that is in a medium range hotel...;.but Josephine is the exception to both rules! The food is some of the best I have had in the area. This place makes hash-browns ellegant and the pasta all tastes homemade. Just true high quality with excellent service which sadly seems a rarity. We were excited to go to Josephine but the service was horrible and food was just 'Ok'. First of all, every 2 person party had to sit on a communal table even though we had reservations. My wife's meal and mine came out 5-10 min apart for the same course multiple times so we had to watch each other eat otherwise the dish would get cold. For our main course we got 2 pizzas and had to wait 35 min to get the 2nd pizza after the first one and neither were that good (esp for $30+). It's a newer restaurant that's still working out the kinks I'm sure but I don't believe it's worth the price. read more

We have walked past Josephine so many times we finally decided to go. We first ordered 2 supplis (tomato basil and the pesto one) as starters. We then put in an order for what the waiter called a "flatbread" with kale and garlic confit and a basic margherita pizza. We first got the kale pizza (not a flatbread) and it was delicious. Then our margherita pizza came in and it was also delicious. The crust, sauce, and cheese were all perfect. We kept inquiring about our appetizer supplis that we had ordered 5 minutes after sitting down. They kept checking on them but 1 hour later, and after finishing our pizzas, the waiter brought only 1 of the 2 supplis (she told us the system noted the supplis as main course because she added them at the end and it made no sense to us because it was the very first thing we ordered). The tomato basil suppli was disappointing. It had a lot of pepper and a wilted basil leaf in the middle. I would absolutely not pay $9 for that suppli and I am happy they took it off the bill due to the delay. Overall, the pizzas were outstanding, but they need to work on their service. read more
