I am so appreciative that he didn't "take my money and run." I called to get a quote to replace the LED bulbs in my 3 year-old 55" TLC television. One of the most frustrating things for a DJ is to have some of your most commonly used buttons on your equipment stop working. You would think that taking good care of professional equipment totaling in the mid-to-high 4 digits would mean such equipment would stand the test of time. Instead, I found various buttons on my Pioneer DJM-900NXS2, as well as the Cue/Play buttons on one of my CDJ-2000NXS2's to be broken and faulty. I had called "authorized" Pioneer repair shops and they told me it would take weeks to get the parts needed to repair them, and the cost would be in the upper hundreds. Having walked by E Joseph many a time, I decided to give Ned a call and see if he could help out here, and I then brought my equipment in on a Monday morning. He was very upfront about the many unknowns of fixing the issues I described and was the next day, he gave me a call with a quite reasonable quote to fix the issues with the CDJ (as well as reinforce the problematic board to be sturdier than what comes out of the factory). The following morning it was fixed and then he went to work on the DJM, giving me honest quotes and pricing every step of the way. The following morning the DJM was fixed as well, and the whole time he kept things inexpensive, reasonable, and above all else fast and efficient. Something that I thought was going to cost me an arm and a leg (and Ned definitely could have charged that) as well as weeks of waiting ended up being done in just a few days. What can you say about Ned? He was easily the most knowledgeable (and friendly) resource I've ever encountered in the vintage audio space. I had a vintage Magnavox Astrosonic unit from the mid 60's whose turntable cartridge needed to be replaced. After trying to deal with it on my own on a couple of intervals watching YouTube videos with no success, I finally raised the white flag and proceeded to delay dealing with it for another few years. I finally picked up the phone and called Ned. Turned out to be an excellent decision. He patiently spent 20 minutes on the phone with me walking me through how to remove the turntable so I wouldn't have to bring the whole unit in to the shop. I was literally astounded and how much he knew about this particular unit and where the wires were and things of that nature. He quoted me a fair price and I expected to have to wait at least a few days for the work to be done. (This already seemed like a crazy short amount of time for something like this. There was quite a bit of stuff in his shop and I thought it might be at least a week if not longer.) Anyway, suffice to say, he called me up literally the next morning to tell me it was ready. When I picked it up, he spent another 20 minutes chatting with me explaining to me the nature of the work he did and what I need to do to ensure the unit functions well. Ned was such a nice guy and overall couldn't recommend him enough. My LG 55UF6450-UA had this grey static/flickering thing going on at the bottom 2/3 of the screen. I called a few places and they all told me it can't be repaired and that I need a new TV. I called Ned and he told me to bring it in for a diagnostic. Almost instantly, he told me he should be able to fix it and not to worry. He fixed it in a few days and when I picked it up he plugged it in to show me that the flickering was gone. It looked perfect so I took it home, but when I plugged it in at my house the flickering was back. This place is great! Brought my broken Samsung LCD HDTV in. I knew exactly what repairs it needed, but most electronic stores will charge you just to even look at the thing and won't fix things on the component level. I called this place and they understood exactly what I needed done (I needed about 4 capacitors replaced on the power supply board). I brought it in on Friday morning at 8am, got a call at 9am saying it was done! In total it only cost me $95 (which was way under what other stores were quoting me). The owner, Ned, is very nice and really wants to make you happy. He is willing to go over the repairs to make sure you understand everything. Ned helped save my project of both finalizing some open DVDs and transferring VHS recordings to DVD format. Units did DVD recordings on were 2 SONY combo recorders. Heavy use over 9-10 years. Began having problems 2-6 yrs. in. I spent tons of time initially recording & often then not being to finalize. I had many DVD recordings not finalized (meaning would not ever be able to finalize unless on exact same model). Ned determined the Laser reader/writer was worn out on both - so not optimally using disc space, often unable to finalize, & frequently not read DVD just recorded on. SONY no longer makes combo DVD/CD units nor supports this model (no parts available). Most new units (any brand) are sold online for 3-4x as much as what I originally paid 10 yrs. ago. Ned tracked down a new optical unit component in China that was exact match. Now works like brand new. Cost was 1/3 of new full unit. Have finalized all open DVDs. Now transferring VHS to DVD. Wish I went sooner to Ned. He can fix just about anything electrical / mechanical. He is very professional, friendly, aims to please, & gets things done fast. Ned is my new hero. My most prized possession is my vintage Zenith phonograph/AM-FM tuner from the 1960s. It had been working perfectly until a few weeks ago - it died while playing a record, and I didn't have a clue about what had gone wrong. After calling tons of vintage repair places all over southern CA and being told that nobody fixes these kinds of things anymore, I happened upon this Yelp page. I submitted an online quote request and heard back from Ned in a matter of hours. From my vague description of the console, he correctly guessed what kind of model it was and already had some ideas about what the problem might have been. I brought it over to his shop bright and early the next morning, and within a few hours he called with a diagnosis. He was clear in his description of what needed to be done to fix it, and was more than fair with his pricing. One of the pieces that needed to be replaced was a power transformer, which isn't manufactured anymore and is impossible to find, so he got creative and jerry-rigged his own to get it working again. He noticed some other aspects of the record player that weren't working properly, and he fixed them at no additional cost to me. I can't think of another person on this planet who would have enthusiastically fixed a piece of equipment whose replacement parts no longer exist. I never write reviews (this has to be one of my first) but I felt inclined to explain how great of an experience I had with Joseph. My father has a record player that means a lot to him that he got in the 70s when he was younger. It sat on a shelf for many years until I finally decided to try fixing it for him for Christmas. Having no idea what I was doing or who to go to, I did what any reasonable person would do, I googled it. Yelp lead me to trust Joseph with this repair. From the minute I spoke with Joseph on the phone I could tell he was happy to help me, he knew what he was talking about, and that I could trust him. Joseph found a number of problems with the record player and fixed some of them right off the bat. For the more difficult fixes he made sure to call me and explained in thorough detail what was wrong and presented two options to me, one that was more affordable and quicker to fix which allowed the record player to function and one fix that was more expensive, lengthier, and fixed every part of the record player. I really appreciated the level of communication Joseph had, explaining the pros and cons for each option. In the end I went with the quicker option for multiple reasons. When I went to pick up the record player Joseph hooked it up to a speaker system and demonstrated that it was working perfectly, he explained to me all the do's and dont's and what to watch out for as well. I was extremely satisfied with the service and now I am able to bring home my dad's record player for Christmas. I would recommend Joseph to anyone that is in need of technical assistance on their electronics for a magnitude of reasons. He is extremely friendly, transparent, trustworthy, and definitely knows what he is doing.
