We used to came here 5 years ago. We were traveling in the city and we came back just to check if they have the same flavor. Environment continue the same, full and very fun. Staff are very friendly. They don't serve shrimp quesadilla anymore, even if you ask or beg for, only option is to other a quesadilla and dive a side of shrimp. Margarita was delicious, sangria ok. The best spot for Tex Mex in NJ!! Have been coming here for as long as can remember and the food is always on point. They start you off with their tortilla chips and salsa. They are very generous with refilling the chips and salsa which is a good thing because they're always gone in seconds! For entrees you can't go wrong with any of their blackened chicken or salmon dishes. I usually go for the blackened chicken fajitas or the blackened salmon tacos, both amazing! The chicken/salmon is well seasoned and the perfect amount of spicy. For drinks i ordered the mango margarita, however this is where I feel they fall short. The drinks here are just ok and there are only a few options on the menu. I believe pre-covid they had a lot more drink options which is a shame. Hope they expand their variety in the future! Work dinner at this Tex-mex was a solid middle of the road restaurant. Sat down right away at 5:40pm on a Tuesday. Place was packed with guests waiting by the time we left. Atmosphere is loud and very open. Lots of staff running around providing great service, but it seems a little chaotic. The chips were great and hot when they came out. The salsa was just average and there was only one option. I prefer spicer salsa. I ordered the fajitas and they were good...lots of bbq seasoning which made some of the meat overly salty. The ambiance gives you a feel of sitting at a restaurant in Texas whereas the service is pretty quick with the server being friendly. They have a bar table where people are really chilling out which actually seems enjoyable. Coming over to the food, I had ordered Tejas chicken as an appetizer. It's a fried chicken put on a skewer and is dipped in buffalo sauce. It was accompanied by a ranch on the side. The sauce was good though. Tbh, the fried chicken was crispy but would have been better with some other sauce than buffalo, that's what I felt! For mains, I had ordered Chicken Tacos. The tacos were accompanied by guac, sour cream, pico de Gallo, fresh salsa and fries on the side. The chicken was well cooked and it was a pulled chicken. The taco was really soft, whereas the guac and sour cream were good. Salsa was my favorite as it was really fresh along with fries which were crispy and thinly sliced. My friend and I came for a relatively early dinner around 5 pm, but we were surprised to find that the parking lot was quite full and the restaurant was already very lively. We were given the option of eating inside (with a 25 min wait) or in the heated outdoors (no wait). We chose to eat in the outdoors, which was indeed heated, but we chose to keep our coats on. We were presented with complimentary chips and salsa while we waited for our guac, corn and black bean empanadas, and baja shrimp tacos to arrive. The order of empanadas came with four empanadas and rice, which my friend found to be quite salty. However, the empanadas were delicious! The guac tasted fresh and it was a nice size that we eventually struggle to finish on top of our own entrees. I enjoyed my tacos which came with a large amount of fries and the tacos had three fried shrimp on a bed of sliced avocados, red cabbage, and pico de gallo! Jose Tejas is one of the popular spots in Woodbridge Township. Its always busy no matter the day or time. I don't think I've ever been here and not waited for a table. My last visit was on an early Tuesday evening and the wait was still forty minutes. The table was ready twenty minutes early. I've been coming here for the longest and I can say that the food doesn't always come out so good. I think the more popular Jose Tejas has become over the years has led the quality to take a nosedive. On past occasions (pre-pandemic) I remember the food coming out quickly without any issue, and on more recent visits the food has been too salty, lukewarm, and/or plated wrong. Of course, we also had the choice to sit at the bar itself for happy hour. I had the blackened chicken and side of jambalaya. The portion was slightly smaller than I hoped, but still very good. We usually get a table with 30-45min depending on the day/time. , sometimes it can be an hr+. Just prepare yourself to fill some time. It amazing how this place is thriving; I guess people care more about the booze then the food ... We were a party of 8; celebrating my wife's 55 birthday with some family. No reservations which we were totally aware of we've been loyal customers for over 20 years but honestly haven't been here since the Corona hit.. Also; they do not answer their phones; as per their hostess??? If no one is in the office it won't get answered ?? Like what ?? I had a very important question to ask I tried calling Friday & Saturday before we got there ... Arrived @ 4:30 pm, Saturday 3/6/22, found a spot in a few minutes; we went in and were told 3 hours for inside seating & 2 hours for outside heated & tented seating.... So we opted for the 2 hour wait for the heated tent; they text ya when your table was ready; To our Surprise we were called in about 1 hour & 15 minutes not to bad... O FYI, we all had to go back to wait in our vehicles which we didn't mind ..... The tent was fine we had a table up front to the right of the heater; FYI, dress so you can strip because a few of us were roasting .... it was 33 degrees outside so I'd rather roast !!! Ok, I'm adding this now; they don't have any kind of desert or mini something to PUT A CANDLE in it to SING HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!! I mostly go for the food and convenience of getting a seat. Everytime i come here, its a hit with the food. My order was the pastelitos, the carne asada jimbowey style & a margarita to flush it down. Elite combo!! & make sure to change the fries for some Jose's rice. Yw. The service is very fast & the environment is very spacious for all types of parties. I've been here several times during severals years and never had something to complain about since they changed their method of reserving tables via phone number.
