I used to love this place -- it had amazing Tex-Mex with authentic flavors, great service, and a fun atmosphere. But now? It's unrecognizable. They completely changed the menu, the music, and even the staff -- and sadly, none of it is an improvement. The new menu is a strange and confused mix of bad "Mexican" food and random Cajun/Creole dishes that don't go together at all. We ordered a variety of plates -- fajitas, steak, and a few others -- and while everything was heavily seasoned, it all somehow tasted the same. No depth, no balance, just spice and sauces without distinction. The vibe is gone, the food is disappointing, and it honestly feels like the soul of the restaurant has been lost. I mostly go for the food and convenience of getting a seat. Everytime i come here, its a hit with the food. My order was the pastelitos, the carne asada jimbowey style & a margarita to flush it down. Jose Tejas is one of the popular spots in Woodbridge Township. Its always busy no matter the day or time. I don't think I've ever been here and not waited for a table. My last visit was on an early Tuesday evening and the wait was still forty minutes. The table was ready twenty minutes early. I've been coming here for the longest and I can say that the food doesn't always come out so good. I think the more popular Jose Tejas has become over the years has led the quality to take a nosedive. On past occasions (pre-pandemic) I remember the food coming out quickly without any issue, and on more recent visits the food has been too salty, lukewarm, and/or plated wrong. I grew up there...starting with chicken fingers, the best french fries ever, and a full size skittles/starburst with a balloon to go. Eventually graduated to the adult menu, the go to being the chicken enchiladas, jose rice & beans, and a lovely frozen Margherita! Jose's never disappoints in our family. From the starter salsa & freshly baked chips to the ooey gooey goodness that is the queso dip!!! Yes wait times can be lengthy...but personally it's worth the wait. We usually get a table with 30-45min depending on the day/time. , sometimes it can be an hr+. Just prepare yourself to fill some time. Come with company you actually enjoy so your not just standing around, getting annoyed, and taking it out on the meal. Jose's is more than a meal. It's an experience. The music, the dim lit setting, the scrumptious smell of tex mex favorites being served up around you. Had lunch here about 3 weeks ago and again today. Used to work in the general area and remember that it was always mobbed by 12:15 on a week day, but apparently not so much anymore - which is fine by me. The service and food quality is as good as ever! The gumbo is fantastic and so are the fajitas, but you can't go wrong ordering almost anything. As soon as you sit down, you're greeted with an overflowing basket of fresh, hot, tortilla chips and tasty salsa. I always started with a cup of their gumbo. It's rich, spicy and very filling. The shrimp tacos had plump and perfectly cooked shrimp. The rice and beans are always flavorful and you can't beat the portion sizes for the price! My wife and I visit Jose's 3-4 times a year. Went last Saturday and it was the worst meal we have ever had there. Everything was ok till the food came out. I ordered fajitas and she ordered the Baja shrimp tacos. My fajitas were cold. Not cold like they had been sitting awhile, ice cold like they came out of the fridge. both the onions and chicken were ice cold. My wife's tacos were just barely warm. We flag down our server and tell him and he signals for a manager to come over. We explain the issue and he argues with me a little that they no longer come out sizzling, I explain that isn't the problem here and he takes it back to the kitchen. When my wife ordered she asked for the spicy remulade sauce to be on the side. They brought it that way and mystery ramekin of some item we couldn't make out. A few mins later my fajita come back, a new order, this time hot. Still waiting on hers. It comes out, a new order with the sauce all over it. Annoyed she tries a bite anyway...too spicy for her. We call the manager over again, who was too busy talking to an employee and my wife explains that she ordered it without the sauce and asked what the mystery ramekin was. He says orange marmalade...What? She never ordered that and it wasn't mentioned on the menu. He makes up a story about how some people like it. She tells him she ordered it without the sauce and he begins an argument that even the shrimp are spicy (they weren't). He takes it back and new order comes out, this time missing the pico. We had to flag down the waiter, who hasn't come to our table again, although we see him serving every other table around us and ask for Pico. Meal ends and we finally flag the waiter, get some boxes and the bill. It looks like they charged us twice for my wife's meal. I call the waiter over who rudely circles on the bill where they took it off. First time all night he apologizes for the bad meal. We weren't looking for anything, but my wife's meal was $11.79. You would have thought that maybe they would have taken it off? Nope. On the way out we pass the manager, who pretty much ignores us, except for a "good night." I tried to reach out to corporate. The number online doesn't work. I left a message on LinkedIn for their CEO- no reply. I called the restaurant asking for the corporate number and was told by a rude girl, "they don't give that out" I explained we had a bad experience and asked to have the District Manager call me. I was told they can't do that, I can go online and fill out a request and they MIGHT get back to me. I hung up and posting here. Will be a long time till we are back. read more

The sauce has a kick to it & it comes with an avocado, rice, & their shoestring fries. My bf is a big fan of their shrimp tacos. Their margaritas are gigantic and great as well. Honorable mention for an appetizer is their blackened chicken tenders. No reservations which we were totally aware of we've been loyal customers for over 20 years but honestly haven't been here since the Corona hit.. Also; they do not answer their phones; as per their hostess??? If no one is in the office it won't get answered ?? Like what ?? I had a very important question to ask I tried calling Friday & Saturday before we got there ... Arrived @ 4:30 pm, Saturday 3/6/22, found a spot in a few minutes; we went in and were told 3 hours for inside seating & 2 hours for outside heated & tented seating.... So we opted for the 2 hour wait for the heated tent; they text ya when your table was ready; To our Surprise we were called in about 1 hour & 15 minutes not to bad... O FYI, we all had to go back to wait in our vehicles which we didn't mind ..... The tent was fine we had a table up front to the right of the heater; FYI, dress so you can strip because a few of us were roasting .... it was 33 degrees outside so I'd rather roast !!! Ok, I'm adding this now; they don't have any kind of desert or mini something to PUT A CANDLE in it to SING HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!! Nothing not even whip cream to put a candle in it would have sufficed..... asked my waiter if they would just sing happy birthday and he told me no ..... Corn & Black Bean Empanadas; another star of the show; being that me & my brother had to share everything with the girls do to the heavy handed over heated spiced food we all got to try everything.... Our waiter was awesome provided fantastic service throughout our entire meal............. Again, I asked him if they have anything to sing happy birthday to my wife thought maybe some one could have ran out & bought a Twinkie ??? Not !!! All & all we had a good time, we were happy to see our family but for me I would never return again...nor would I recommend...... Our bill was moderately inexpensive @ $384.00 with the 18% gratuity added to it..., Sorry Jose you lost it !!! And to think we drove from Brooklyn because my wife wanted Jose Tejas !!! Small menu, limited choices. The place is run like a well oiled machine. The staff cranks the people in and out and they must make good money because they are all smiling and joking with each other. There are like only 2 drinks available. Meals are like chicken or beef in either tacos or fajita or with cheese or some kind of sauce. You can get regular rice or way too spicy jose Tejas style rice or french fries. The place is ALWAYS PACKED. ALWAYS, so you might need to wait for a table. Not sure why everyone goes here but I think lack of other decent stuff in the area makes everyone funnel into this place. Good if you are in the area but not worth a trip from anywhere read more

This place is absolutely disgusting, and it is clear after my visit today they DO NOT CARE about their customers' HEALTH. I literally PULLED HAIR OUT OF MY MOUTH while eating a quesadilla, and when I told the manager, YADIRA, about it, she had the nerve to brush it off and said, "IT HAPPENS." Are you kidding, did you just casually admit to me a paying customer at your restaurant that this just happens?!!? There was no apology, no concern, just no care at all. The restaurant is filthy to begin with because when we first sat down, the dishes they gave us were dirty and unwashed and THEY DID NOT EVEN NOTICE. We had to ask for clean ones. Even that one had sour cream at the bottom of the dish. Very low standards when it comes to sanitation. After all this, all they could do was to comp the one item. There was no real effort or concern to fix the bigger problem of their unsanitary conditions. Trust me I've been coming here for over 5 years since I was a kid, but the standards have plummeted since COVID. The food may have been good in the past, but the utter lack of hygiene and the terrible service from Yadira have completely ruined it for me. We really WAITED HALF AN HOUR for this type of service and the manager's snarky attitude after we received our food just be able to speak with someone. It wasn't even all that busy like usual because my table of 3 was seated right away. I think of myself to be very patient and calm, but Yadira was so disrespectful and uncaring that I had to finally say something. If Jose Tejas wants to stay open, they need to FIRE THEIR CURRENT MANAGER YADIRA and hire someone with manners. I will be reporting this restaurant to the local health department for these unsafe practices. Do yourself a favor and stay far, far away from this place. If you care about your health and your dining experience, AVOID JOSE TEJAS AT ALL COSTS. Disappointed to leave a poor rating after 30 years of fantastic meals and experiences at the Woodbridge Jose's. Over the last year-ish, we have noticed reduced quality, portion sizes and menu choices. Most disappointing is the replacement in chicken fajitas from chicken breast to chicken tender and removal of all crawfish dishes. And while we aren't 100%, we believe the chips have changed to a thicker less crispy one. What's still really good: - camptown shrimp appetizer - carne asada Jim Bowie (but this is a real downgrade from the old Jim Bowie steak) - blackened chicken breast (which use to be the basis of the blacken chicken fajitas which are now tenders) - Jose's rice side dish - jambalaya Can't help but notice crowd sizes are smaller so I don't think we are the only ones who notice. I used to LOVE Jose Tejas. But after COVID, they never brought back their full menu. I used to get the "Eggplant Royale"....it was my favorite dish there and it is no longer on the menu! I always get the pastelitos, Camptown Shrimp and the Tejas chicken....love these!! They used to have the "Original Texas Margarita" so now I order the Margarita Grande but add Cointreau to it. Their chips and salsa always comes out hot and I usually eat way too many before my meal arrives. There also used to be 2 chicken dishes that are no longer on the menu. Late lunch after quick meeting . This was a spontaneous decision while driving to stop in at the Tex mex restaurant after seeing sign. It has a barn converted to restaurant feeling . Large seating area for seat down as well as at bar area. Menu was same thru out a day. Very few to be exact two items for vegetarian eaters. Fajitas and e cheese enchiladas. Selection was easy. As for alcoholic drinks they have wine/ beer etc.. ordered enchilada with green chilies black beans and white rice. Quantity was good. How the mighty have fallen. The quality has really dropped. The sangria is store bought from a jug. The guacamole is your generic restaurant kind comes out still shaped like an ice cream scoop and they have a large amount of favorites off the menu now. The service is still fast and great.
