Excellent meal at this long-time Westfield spot. It's a storefront restaurant, with a dining room to the left, and one in the rear, with the kitchen central. BYOB so don't forget to bring your favorite wine. As the name would suggest, the menu is heavy on seafood, although there are a few options for the landlubber. We had the advantage of visiting with a couple who have been coming to Limani for years and are on a first-name basis with the team. Needless to say service is impressive. Warm bread is served immediately, with olive oil for dipping. Crusty, fresh bread and nicely seasoned oil - the perfect start. I opted for one of the specials, Bronzini. I chose the de-boned version. The fish was perfect. Crisp skin on the outside, tender and juicy flesh on the inside. A wonderful medley of spices enhanced the sweet, flaky white fish. It's served with roasted potatoes cut into chunky logs and wonderfully garlicky sautéed escarole. Mash up those potatoes to soak up the white wine sauce and juices from the escarole. Yaaaas! Others ordered crab cakes. 4 large cakes to the order, adorned with scrumptious remoulade sauce, with a mound of garlic mashed potatoes, and that sautéed escarole. No filler in these crab cakes, it's all crab - encrusted and fried to a brown crispy perfection on the outside with chunks of succulent crab on the inside. To celebrate a birthday at the table, the house comped us small slices of baklava. Delicious filo layered with chopped nuts and honey. Their prep here isn't too much honey, so the result is both sweet and tart. It's a disappointment that I don't like closer to Westfield - this is the kind of place to return to again and again, to experience everything on the menu. Go! You'll LOVE it.

This Greek restaurant is top notch. A great byob with excellent selection of fresh seafood prepared in a variety of ways. I went with one of the specials of the night, pink snapper ( it wasn't cheap but you have to just splurge once in a while.) I had it grilled whole which was just perfect. This was exactly what I was hoping for when I ordered it. The restaurant itself is a bit noisy but I was eating during prime dinner hour on a Saturday but it was not overwhelming. My server Alex was fantastic and very personable and attentive and always made sure to check if the table needed anything. I def look forward to coming back again.

An amazing experience. We are in town for the first time in over 30 years. Our hotel was a block away from this restaurant. From the clam chowder to the escargot to the coconut shrimp to the whole pink snapper to the delicious sorbet were terrific. The owner took time to make us feel very special. Certainly the highlight of our trip. GO HERE! You will not be disappointed I promise.

First of all, this restaurant DOES NOT have a bar. They have a wine list, but you are able to bring your own liquor (hard liquor, beer, and/or wine). My mom and I shared a bottle of sangria, AND we were able to take it to go when it wasn't finished. It came with fruit on the time and a pitcher of ice. It was BOMB.com! I started with some lobster bisque. DELICIOUS! This was so good that my mom got her some to-go. Nice pieces of lobster and the soup itself was radiant in flavor! The caesar salad was pretty good but the croutons were salty. Sans the croutons and it's everything you need it to be and it doesn't need any additional dressing to go with it. My mom also ordered the clams casino and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I ended up getting the stuffed shrimp. The shrimp was stuffed with real crab meat almost like crab cakes without filler. I am going to get this EVERY TIME I come here. The mashed potatoes tasted like they may have been instant but I would get them again or possible sub them out. I like the vegetables, also. It was something different! The restaurant looks so cute on the inside. My mom had seen it from the train and the back makes it look like a regular0degular restaurant but it's quaint and smells wonderfully when you enter the building. We were pleasantly suprised. I will be back when I'm in NJ.

    Mid-week specials 6/26/24

It's been awhile ... A few months to be exact. Our community has been doing a dinner club for about 3 years now. We were a group of 14 for our Wednesday night get together. Mid week they have a specials menu that is 3 courses. This includes appetizers, salad and your main course for $59. For our apps, she had an eggplant & hummus dip that is a little spicy. I chose the zuppa Di Mussels. Next up, we both chose that watermelon salad. Our main courses were the grilled ribeye for her cooked medium rare and I chose those warm lobster rolls. We actually split the key lime tart for our dessert ( which is extra) along with a cappuccino. In our group 10 of the 14 ordered off the specials menu. One that didn't ordered the soft shell crabs and she was very happy. Service by Alex was excellent. For parking, they have a lot right across the street that is free after 6 PM. Of some note, they are BYOB, but have a small wine fridge in the back of the restaurant. Cost per person with a tip about $80. As always... Enjoy:) USC#19

Grilled Oysters with Basil, Garlic and Pecorino Pesto

I'm a little late in posting this review, so some of the dishes we had were seasonal specials and might not be available now (sorry). It's been a few years since I visited the Limani Seafood Grill in Westfield, and I was happy to see that the restaurant has expanded its footprint, which was originally a bit tight. Now, while not a huge space, there are more tables and there's adequate room between them. Clearly, the restaurant is still a popular draw, as every table was filled. Our group started the meal with a Classic Caesar Salad and the Grilled Oysters. The salad was perfectly serviceable, but not particularly special. The Grilled Oysters on the other hand were outstanding. They were four Long Island Blue Points, that were shucked fresh and oven grilled with basil, garlic and pecorino pesto. If you're a fan of Oysters Rockefeller, you'll love this. For mains we had the Grilled Atlantic Salmon and the Soft-Shell Crabs. The salmon was an ample portion and cooked perfectly. It came with roasted lemon potatoes and sautéed escarole. The soft-shell crabs were an absolute standout. Each order came with two jumbo Maryland crabs, roasted lemon potatoes, sautéed green beans with garlic oil, and a side of chili-lime sauce. The crabs were true jumbos and were available fried or sautéed without flour. We chose the sautéed preparation and were thrilled. The crabs tasted like they had been harvested earlier that day and were delicious. I don't know how they achieved the crisp texture without using flour, but it really allowed the flavor of the crabs to shine. The chili-lime sauce that accompanied the crabs was sweet, citrusy and unexpectedly spicy. I haven't had soft-shell crabs with a sauce like this before, but it was creative and quite good and serving it on the side was the right choice. I regret not taking a picture. For dessert we all shared something called Galaktoboureko (I had to write it down). It's a Greek semolina custard, that's baked in filo dough and covered in a light lemony syrup. It was absolutely fantastic, and I'd definitely order it again. The service throughout the evening was attentive and friendly. Our evening at Limani Seafood Grill was wonderful and we look forward to returning.

seared scallops over sun-dried fig, marsala, and caramelized apple
    Michael K.

Had the shrimp cocktail ($19) for four large but dried-out cocktail shrimp. Also, crab cakes ($29) for two tiny 2" crab cakes which tasted like paste and were served lukewarm. Don't order this. Entrées were the seared scallops over sun-dried fig, marsala, and caramelized apple ($44), five nicely-cooked scallops with a tasty fruit compote. However, the sautéed garlic spinach accompaniment was slimy and drowning in oil, and the steamed carrots were cooked to death. Did not eat. Also had the grilled swordfish with chili-lime sauce ($34). The fish was good but the mashed potatoes on the side were unseasoned, desperately needing salt, and soupy, like instant mashed potatoes. Did not eat. None of the desserts are made in house. Had a slice of N.Y. cheesecake ($10) which tasted like frozen from the supermarket, and not Junior's. The decaf cappuccino was watery with little coffee flavor. Would I come back? I don't think so, this mediocre BYOB meal for two was over $150, plus tip.

Went on a Wednesday midday. The (I assume) owner, was very pleasant, gave us each a complementary flute of wine when I said I had brought my mother out for a birthday lunch. We also got a complementary cup of the lobster bisque which was delicious. We both ordered the London broil. It was quite pricey, had good flavor and good quality seafood but I expected a bit more for the price. Overall, good food and great service. Would recommend.

    Shrimp stuffed with crab.

This is our 7 place when celebrating colleagues. We ordered the tomatoes and mozzarella and calamari for apps. For dinner, I ordered the shrimp stuffed with crab, mixed vegetables, and mashed potatoes. It was very good. For dessert, I had the carrot cake. Big slice and great taste. Service was a little off. The waiter forgot to clear plates for apps before bringing out dinner. Someone at the table asked to substitute the vegetables for something else, and they didn't. He had brought out the wrong dessert for me. Everyone is entitled to an off day. It's still a great place to enjoy seafood.

I'd say we were successful in that regard, and this is probably one of the top two places I've been now in town, along with Garlic Rose. Even if you didn't have access to the menu, this just LOOKS like an upper-class steakhouse - lots of darker interior colors with deliberate use of lighting almost like the aisles in a movie theater. We did the responsible thing and made 6:30pm reservations, though the restaurant was relatively empty when we first got there (it filled up for sure during our dinner). We were immediately seated and attended to, which was a pleasant recurring theme for our experience. On the booze front, we each got an Old Fashioned, which was specifically cited on the cocktail menu, and a bottle of Daou Cab Sauvignon to share (I let my chum take the lead on that selection, which I think was influenced by the strong reviews on the Vivino app - a recommend if you're into that sort of thing). The Old-Fashioned was decent; I'm always pleased when the de facto bourbon is Angel's Envy. I'm not crazy about vermouth, which I always think gives off shoe leather vibes, but I did like the smoky profile on this one. Not bad at all, but I liked the bottle of wine better. We decided to split the Grilled Octopus app, which came with seasoned potatoes, olives and tomatoes. This was arguably the weakest part of the meal. The octopus was a little tough/rubbery and the accompanying potatoes to me were very much needed and better, frankly, than the designated star of the show here. I'm not an olive person but my chum's comment there was they were too overwhelming, taste-wise. Noted. We also got a side of parmesan truffle garlic steak fries, which I didn't have too many of because I was distracted by all of the other options on the table, but would totally get again. For entrees, it felt morally proper to hit up the cattle (when in Rome). I went with the Braised Short Ribs, which is one of my go-tos if it's on the menu. Pretty good - VERY tender and literally falling off the bone. I'd say about 20% of it was too fatty for me, and I pawned that section off on my chum, but the other 80% was primo. She got the Filet Mignon Oscar style (which my computer wanted to autocorrect to Oscars, thinking it was the umpteenth time I was typing something about the Academy Awards), and was very pleased by it. Not mindblowingly amazing but solidly above average across the board. I'm not sure why we ordered dessert at this point other than to ensure I had something else to munch on the following day, but we did that too. I got the Cheesecake w/ Marionberry Compote. This was just okay for me. Taste-wise, the cheesecake seemed a little off for my palate; maybe a little too tart? It didn't seem as milky as other cheesecakes, which doesn't necessarily mean it was bad, but wasn't my kind of cheesecake. The compote was also just okay, both in the moment and as a leftover the following day. Maybe I'm just used to getting this dessert with strawberries and compotes that are similar to that type of fruit, but I just didn't think the compote and cake meshed as well. Debatable though. There's room for improvement but this is a strong entry in the Cranford gastro scene, such as it is.

I'm not sure if it was because it was midweek or if the chef was simply off his game on this night, but the experience was disappointing overall. The first thing I noticed when I sat down was that my knife was dirty. I ended up taking another knife from a different table. The ambiance, as always, was wonderful, and there were only two other tables occupied, so the restaurant was not busy at all. They started us off with soup, and it was chicken noodle soup. I was honestly very disappointed. When I go to a Spanish restaurant, especially one like this, I expect something traditional like caldo gallego or a similar house soup -- not chicken noodle soup that I could easily make at home. For appetizers, we ordered shrimp in garlic sauce and calamari. Both were absolutely delicious and honestly the highlight of the meal. We also had to ask the waiter for bread, and when it finally arrived, we were each given one very small roll. Our main entrées were sautéed tilapia and shrimp in lemon sauce with mashed potatoes and string beans, and breaded veal cutlet Milanese with mushrooms in a wine and brandy sauce over mashed potatoes. Unfortunately, neither entrée stood out the way meals here usually do. The tilapia was sitting on a bed of mashed potatoes and absolutely swimming in lemon sauce. There was so much sauce that it completely soaked the mashed potatoes and vegetables. I could only eat the top portion of the fish. My husband also mentioned that his breaded veal was very oily. The waiter never returned to ask if we wanted anything else to drink. The water had no ice and felt warm. We also had to ask for additional bread. I'm used to bread being left at the table, not rationed piece by piece. When the waiter asked if we enjoyed our meal, I politely explained that I did not care for mine and why, especially since most of it was left untouched. He looked at me like I had ten heads. I truly hate writing this because this restaurant has been one of my favorites for years, but this visit just did not live up to the standard I've come to expect.

I don't know why we haven't frequented this spot sooner (at least during trips back home), but EVOO is legit. Also NOTE - its BYOB (but there are even some places nearish by you can grab a bottle or 3 if needed). Our server was very attentive, despite the restaurant being fairly busy. For apps, we decided on the: Hummus - how do you properly judge a Mediterranean restaurant without trying their hummus, and this was creamy, decadent and served with some fresh pita. Grilled Calamari (with roasted red pepper, lemon, evoo, capers, red onions) - very nicely cooked, not rubbery at all Grilled Octopus (with roasted red peppers, fava puree, capers, onions, red wine vinegar, arugula, evoo) - if octopus is on the menu, I'm gonna have it. For my entree, I got the pan-seared scallops with cauliflower puree, quinoa, spinach, heirloom tomato. Loved it. Cooked perfectly, loooved the silky puree...just a solid solid dish. All in all, EVOO definitely deserves to be on the Millburn/Essex shortlist when looking for nicer places to dine out. Can't wait to get back and try some more of their menu!

My old phone was taking blurry pics from far away so I wasn't able to capture it, but think very cozy, fireplace with candles glowing from within, and little alcoves in the wall for candle clusters. It was perfectly elevated while still being casual and approachable. When we came there was a Mac and cheese special with pulled bbq pork on top. I knew we had to get that because it is right up my husbands alley. It did not disappoint, my husband was tempted to order some to take home! The pasta was super creamy and cheesy, mixed with the roasted pulled smoky bbq pork on top, it was the ultimate comfort food for the cold rainy day we were having. For my meal I got the Grilled Cheese which is more of an elevated "grown up" grilled cheese. It had cheese, thin apple slices, fig jam and bacon. The flavors were great, I only wish there was a little more cheese or a little less jam to balance the sweet and savory a little more, because for me it was a touch too sweet. The sourdough it was made with was delicious and fresh, I also appreciate that they don't seem to soak their grilled cheese in oil like a lot of places do (butter or nothing, please!!) My husband ordered the burger which he really enjoyed but nothing was going to top the pulled pork Mac and cheese for him. They should consider adding it to the regular menu! He originally wanted the duck sandwich but it was unavailable on this day. All in all it was a cozy afternoon together. Our waitress was very friendly and made sure to check on us without ever being too overbearing.

Great happy hour- the burger was delicious with crispy truffle fries. Can choose loaded which comes…read morewith bacon, caramelized onions or plain. Drink specials included some discounted whiskey so enjoyed a couple cocktails which were perfectly crafted! Happy hour is 3-6.
