I fell in love with Moroccan cuisine and culture during my 2021 trip to Marrakesh, and every so often I crave those bold, comforting flavors. I'm so glad I found this place -- it did not disappoint. The decor and artwork instantly transported me back to the riads and vibrant streets of Marrakech. It genuinely felt like a piece of Morocco right here in New Jersey. Never had Moroccan food but I was very excited by the looks of this place. The inside was very clean, and well maintained, same with the bathroom. We first got the combo appetizer, the hummus was simple, but I also liked the two other dips (I don't know their names). I wish the naan was fresher, but it was still warm. It was my first time having falafel and it was delicious!! Very warm and crunchy which paired well with all three dips. I also ordered the mixed platter, it came with chicken, beef, pork, and more meats that I'm not familiar with the names. Everything was delicious but what stood out to me the most was the lamp shank!! It was so juicy and soft, very well cooked. I would next time have it alone as is! I haven't been by in a while.. but I stopped by to pick up a lamb kebab sandwich for lunch today and thought I'd update- my sandwich was really delicious. The decor feels exotic and has a water feature, lanterns, and a low table and chairs in the front window, perfect for a small party. Staff is friendly and helpful. They're very willing to explain the dishes if you need some help with the cuisine. The falafel was the best and crispiest I've ever had, and the lamb tagine is to die for. I could have eaten the whole plate: each bite is a new flavor sensation with apricots, dried plums, marcona almonds, and rich earthy lamb that is cooked to fall-off-the-bone perfection, all in a thick delicious stew-like sauce. Staff was nice and pleasant. Food wise, the tajine were good but a little more on the saltier side. The same can be said for their appetizer dips. Very comfortable dining area and a nice setting for a chilly evening. Started with falafel - these were delicious and well cooked. Not sure what sauce it came with but not much flavor. The chicken kebab platter is one of the most popular dishes but the chicken was dry and nothing special. I wish there were more vegetables, the ratio was off. Let me start off with what I liked. The restaurant itself is clean and when we got there it was empty so it made it easy to sit 17 of us. So yes this is a good place for a group if you happen to go when it's empty otherwise it might not be so easy to fit everyone. Most of us ordered tagine or couscous. I was excited to try their lamb couscous. I was so disappointed in the taste and texture of the lamb, it was either old or previously frozen for a long time. It was hard and you could definitely tell it wasn't fresh. Unfortunately; I was not the only one who felt this way about the lamb. Everyone else who ordered lamb in their tagine or couscous said the same thing. Thankfully the couscous with the veggies was good but I wish I could say the same about the lamb. They don't serve Moroccan bread but instead serve pita bread (it actually tasted good so I'll give them this). Overall service was good. For the amount of people we had they managed to get our food in a decent time. Unfortunately, because of the taste of the lamb I personally don't recommend this place. read more

This family run BYOB is a pleasant place to have a leisurely meal. We had the mixed app platter. The falafels were perfectly crunchy on the outside, tender and fragrant on the inside. The hummus was creamy and delicious, and the pitas nicely warmed. We had two lamb entrées, couscous and tagine. The tagine was just OK, the lamb shank was on the small side, it needed more seasoning, and it wasn't served hot enough. The couscous was a huge plate of food, however, the vegetables in it were way overcooked, like mush, and the boneless lamb chunks were overcooked and dry as well. I would not order this again. The panna cotta could have used more honey, but was still delicious and generous enough for two. I like this place enough to return, but will get something different. read more

I was really looking forward to trying this restaurant and when I finally did I was underwhelmed. I felt everything needed a bit more seasoning. The highlights were the lemonade with mint and the the chicken kebab. The chicken and beef Shawarma seemed reheated and dry, the lamb tagine with plums weren't worth getting and the brewat appetizer was tasty but the filo wrapper was oily. The dishes needed a bit more salt and didn't leave enough of an impression to make me want to return. The service was confused. We had three people waiting on our table and each person was asking us what someone had already asked. The atmosphere was very cute, and it felt like we were in Morocco. One of the more decently priced Moroccan restaurant that serves a very close approximation to the great food in Morocco. I feel like I was transported back to Chefchaouen the moment I bit into their chicken tagine! Amazing service with a smile, great dishes and a slightly more reasonable price entry point than other Moroccan restaurants in the area. Ordered the chicken tagine with lemon and olives ($25 in Nov'23), lamb tagine with plums (I think they're actually apricot -- $28), and couscous with chicken and vegetables ($27). They are all stewed very tenderly and are superbly delicious. The lamb just melted off a bone that occupies half of the plate, immersed in an immensely delectable stew. While the tagine is, as I mentioned, a respectable representation of the numerous tagine dishes I had in Morocco, the spices and perhaps the charcoal, stewing time, etc. are different here in the US and can't be helped -- but I want to emphasize that it still bears very delicious and authentic tastes and flavors. The couscous, however, was straight-up authentic and on-the-spot delish. We ordered briwat, which has been cut in half from its original triangular shape, and they taste delightfully like a Marrakech import. The decor is inviting and traditional, with beautiful arches between sections and metalwork lamps that altogether emit a warm Moroccan ambiance. I would park in the municipal parking lot (smartly set by Cranford for only $0.25 per hour) "behind" the restaurant, connected to the main street via an alley, but there's another parking lot across the street to the left that's slightly farther away. Decided to try Oasis for my wife's birthday after looking for Mediterranean restaurants in the area and wow, am I happy we did! We walked in early on a freezing cold Wednesday and there were a few scattered tables around the room. From the second we sat down it felt like we were guests at a family friends. The waitress was patient and knowledgeable. The food was timely and came with a smile and can I just say the dips... the dips... yes the dips were amazing! For our entree we split the chicken kabobs and the lamb tagine, which we never had before but the waitress suggested. All was incredible! Very disappointing. Pastilla was dry and a little too sweet. Lamb Tangine was super rich tasting sauce I could only eat a few bites. Today is Friday. Yelp says it opens at 11:30a. The door says it opens at noon. We got there at 11:30a and decided to come back a noon (we shopped at periwinkles a few doors down in the interim). Cranford has 3 options for kebabs. There is the Greek place on the same street, a middle eastern place across from the corner, AND Oasis. For some reason, we've only been to the Greek place and Old City. We never tried this place because I wasn't exactly sure what is Moroccan food. Of the 3 places...THIS ONE IS THE BEST! (the other two may have an unfair advantage because I've only gotten take out from there so maybe things degrade from travel). So onto the review... Mint Lemonade --- Other people have said great things. I'm here to confirm that it's AMAZING! It's refreshing. It's icy cold. It's tiny bits of frozen ice. It's perfect. I will definitely drink this again and when out of towners come in---I will bring them here! Oasis Combo Appetizer --- The falafel!!! This is the best falafel. It's crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. It's hot and fresh. It's NOT HARD. It's NOT DRY. It's better than the other two places I mentioned. The dips are all delicious. Typically, when getting a combo, there is usually one that I'm disappointed in...but not with this trio. All delicious. Kibbeh --- Just as good as the falafel. Cripsy on the outside. NOT HARD and NOT DRY. Well seasoned. Not sure where I had my last Kibbeh---but that one was cinnamon-heavy. This one was delicious! Entrees--- My husband got a salad with lamb kebab added. The addition is $10 for 4 small pieces of lamb. While the lamb was VERY good, it seems like a high charge for very little meat. I had the kufta kebab with rice. We started with the Beef Brewat, which is fried phyllo dough, filled with spiced ground beef. They do sprinkle some confectioners sugar on top. I would order again with no sugar. It was nice and hot and tasty. I had the Mixed Beef & Chicken Shawarma Platter. The beef was very chewy for some reason. Chicken was great. Flavors were good but I probably would order something different if we came again. My husband had Meatball Tagine which he said was excellent. Oasis is a delicious new Moroccan restaurant in downtown Cranford. Came in for dinner a week after the restaurant opened. The restaurant is conveniently located in the heart of downtown and right next to a liquor store (very handy for a BYOB restaurant). The interior is gorgeous with gold teardrop light fixtures, small statues and two small gold tables. The service was impeccable as our server was knowledgeable about the food and had great recommendations. We opted for Baba Ganoush to start, which came with warm pitas and small salads. It was really delicious, I loved the pronounced charred eggplant taste in the dip. For entrees, we tried the lamb couscous and meatball tagine. Both were well seasoned and the lamb was cooked perfectly. The portions were generous as we only finished half of the lamb dish. The female host was super friendly and explained the menu to me & where a lot of the dishes come from in Morocco. Her family owns this restaurant. I was so impressed with Oasis Restaurant. The first thing I noticed was how gorgeously the interior had been designed. They did an incredible job maximizing their square footage, and it genuinely feels spacious. There's an arched divider wall, allowing there to essentially be two dining rooms, and each one is decked out in authentic Moroccan decorations. On top of that, the owner of the restaurant was so respectful, well-mannered, and friendly. Despite the fact that we met him during the hectic Taste of Cranford event, he carried himself so well and even had our food ready earlier than he originally predicted it would be. And now for the most exciting part -- the food itself. During Taste of Cranford, we sampled their Chicken Kebab with Rice and their Couscous with Vegetables. And boy oh boy, did they nail the flavors. Each component of both of the dishes was so savory and so flavorful overall. If I didn't know any better, I would've said that I'd just sampled the best food Morocco can offer in the country itself, and I can say that confidently as I have tried traditional Moroccan cuisine from an old professor of mine that grew up in Morocco.
