Came here for a quick lunch. As soon as I walked in I was greeted right away. This place is very clean and offers lots of seating. The cashier was really nice and helpful. I ended up ordering the beef platter with rice and veggies. It comes with pita bread and white sauce and hot sauce on the side. "Be careful with the hot sauce btw" The platter was really tasty I really enjoyed everything!!! read more

Came here today as part of an Elite Event. Located on the center island on RT 22 in Union, NJ. Counter service with several tables. Seems most do take out at lunch time. Staff was very nice and quick. I had the gyro platter which comes with lettuce, tomato, yellow rice and served with your choice of white sauce or hot sauce( or both ) . Server warned me hot sauce was very hot , but I still asked for extra ( and it was very hot) Food is very tasty. My only complaint was the Gyro pieces were cut very small. I would like them cut a little bigger. This is a great place to stop by if you want something different from the usual fast food places located in the area. read more

Please keep in mind that this is a review ONLY for their wings. I love their platters and would rate those 5/5 all the time. I ordered deliver through GrubHub. I love Halal Guys and order only ever so often. I saw on the menu that they added chicken wings and sauces on the menu so I wanted to try. I ordered the 8 piece. Through GrubHub it came out to about $13. When I got my order, I saw that there were about 5 regular flats and then there were 3 really small, weird looking drums. It looked like they were cut in half. So I took off the flesh of one of them to inspect. Lo and behold, they oddly were. Why would you do that? I gave them a try and the chicken was ok. It was like any regular chicken you can get at like a pizza parlor. You'd just get more bang for your buck at a Chinese take out place though. Wouldn't recommend. read more

Soooooo good. I still love the experience of getting halal guys from a food truck, but this was also great. Drove a half hour to come here. People were very nice and everything was clean. My husband and I needed to eat in silence because of how good it was. Can't go wrong with halal guys!!! The white sauce is where it's at! The spicy red sauce is also pretty good, but it surely does have a fiery kick haha. read more

Walked in and saw freshly grilled chicken being prepped. Ordered the small chicken platter with peppers and onion. Wasn't too much rice and a plenty full of chicken, just how I like it. Their portion of white sauce was very generous and the service was nothing but kind. The atmosphere was very clean too. 100% will come back for more. read more

Pleasant experience here. The lady's customer service is pure with no intent to change depending on the tip. She explained things well too. This store participates in upside and points accumulation offer by creditcards which is pretty neat. Their Mediterranean foods are good and fresh as well. Accepts credit cards. High chair available. Clean and organized place. Ample of parking. See images for reference. read more

Decently quick service at this nj location and is it the original truck quality? It comes so very close! This is our rainy day or winter tired comfort meal. Spacious in location, the restaurant appears clean and all napkins /utensils fully stocked without fuss. With 14 years of experience, the meat platter comes abundantly delicious. The service is quick, and usually very polite. once they gave me an incorrect order with items missing, but we're generally very kind about it. I am dedicated to the Halal guys and love their food not only as a New York City moment, but has an East Coast affordable standard. The food is well spiced and filling. Their white sauce feels decadent and the hot sauce packets will sear your taste buds depending on your personal chemistry. I've loved this meal for well over a decade and I'm so glad that they also deliver. read more

This was like a fast food place. You order the food and sit down or take it home. The food was good + it felt healthy. I had the beef platter. My husband has beef + chicken combo platter. Both were good. Would definitely return. read more

Delicious lamb and beef gyro platters. Great white sauce. Friendly, quick service. Clean and simple with ample seating. Highly recommend.

Ordered from here on ubereats - I was craving the NY street cart style halal guys but to my disappoint it wasn't the same. It came nicely packed but the taste wasn't what I remembered it to be. The chicken and beef were cooked to the right temperature. read more

Got the regular with both chicken and beef. Good meat potion but, surprisingly, little rice and veggies. Not a complaint just a note. OK

Order: - Small Chicken Platter (5/5) - Regular Combo Platter (5/5) Pros: - Restaurant version of the infamous halal cart in NYC - Great tasting food - Quick service Cons: - More expensive than the same platter at the original cart Overall: Who doesn't love The Halal Guys?! While it is a bit more expensive than the original cart in NYC, the store locations serve up just as tasty food! read more

It was alright, food was just warm. But that's only sometimes. Other then that very frendly staff and good environment.

I don't live in Union, NJ anymore but needed to visit the area. While trying to get food that's not available in my area I remembered halal guys. As always, the food was tasty and satisfying. In today's economy, the large platter is a great value. The white sauce and hot sauce take the dish over the top. The staff was very pleasant but the young lady "supervisor?" Was exceptionally pleasant and welcoming. It has only been 3 days since getting back to my state and I want another platter. read more

I have been going to the trucks in NYC since 2004 and this is the first restaurant I've been to in NJ. I must admit I prefer this over the trucks. Although the experience isn't the same as going up to trucks but the portions are better and did not have to cross the bridge to satisfy my cravings. To me, it actually tastes a lot better than the trucks in terms of freshness. Just getting to this location is kind of tricky since 22 is pretty busy but can't complain because getting to NYC is busy and parking is too. read more

I used to frequent the original food truck in Manhattan. It was delicious! But now as a franchise they did what all other franchises do, replace quality for consistency. What used to be the best halal food truck is now an overpriced, underportioned, low quality franchise. read more

After going to the carts my entire life, I started coming to this location when my cravings kicked in to stay local to jersey. While my first few experiences at their "restaurants" weren't so impressive, the last time I came here the platter was as delicious as I remembered it to be out on the street. I ordered a regular sized combo platter which is the larger size of the two options. The gyro meat was hot and perfectly charred on the outside and the lettuce was crisp and pita was fluffy. The chicken and rice were solid, just as tasty as I remember and I doused the entire platter in white sauce and a few slivers of red sauce. For those who haven't tried Halal guys before, ask for their hot sauce sparingly because it's not your average hot sauce these little lines of sauce are lava. Glad I gave this location another try! read more

I ordered a small platter and felt I got a good amount of food. I got the chicken and the chicken shawarma and really didn't taste much difference between the two. But the chicken did have a good flavor to it. The sauces were pretty good. The garlic and tahini sauce were really good. Also got the white sauce on the side. The white sauce was ok in comparison to garlic sauce. And the hot sauce was a nice spicy sauce. Overall pretty good and tasty. read more

The Halal Guys - All Smiles , for a day off from school ! Happy Girls - Middle Eastern Near Me - Union, New Jersey

Ambience: It is set up like a fast food place, so the tables and chairs are typical to such a place. Nothing much to say, except it's in good working order and it's clean. Food and drink: Food was nice, fresh, and flavorful, it was just that it felt very greasy for some reason. I expected a shawarma-type meat to be fatty, but when I got a film of fat stuck to the roof of my mouth, it's not a great sensation. Not sure where the issue is, probably the meat wasn't heated enough prior to serving. They do have a running shawarma / vertical spit grill, so perhaps cutting the meat straight out of the grill instead of pulling it out of the bin would improve the texture and temperature. Service: Service was standard. Not bad but not extraordinary either. Value: For the price, I think it's worth visiting. The price is not gonna wow you, but you won't feel ripped off. Rating: I feel that they can do better with how they handle the meat. At this moment I can only give three stars, but I'm willing to try again. read more

Decent food just like every brick HG. This place is very stingy with the sauce. During lunch the line moves painfully slow. People are always cutting in line for more white sauce or a dab of hot sauce. Maybe during lunch they can leave small bottle of white sauce out by the cashier to not interrupt the supply chain of my lunch. Getting to this location on RT 22 can be dangerous. Sometimes it's worth getting to a car accident for beef and rice. I would cause major accident if they offered lamb and rice once more. The all beef is whack. Cc accepted. Bathroom is clean. Floors are crazy slippery when wet. read more

It's been years since I've worked in Midtown and frequented their famous cart, so I'm very happy to be able to order Halal Guys from their NJ location. Delivery was quick and easy, and the order was executed perfectly. The gyro platter was super yummy; I love the contrast between the salty meat, savory rice, crispy vegetables and creamy white sauce. Be careful with the hot sauce - it is super spicy so use sparingly if you prefer a mild kick. The delivery folks pack the sauces on the side so your platter isn't soggy by the time of arrival. I can't wait to order again!! read more

The Halal Guys - Gyro platter with rice, veggies, white sauce and pita - Middle Eastern Near Me - Union, New Jersey

I've been to a few Halal Guys, and I'd hardly consider myself a veteran, but I know a few things - at least about what I like. So here are some tips for you: 1) Go. Off. Peak. I've never had a problem getting overloaded with too much meat, sauce, rice, veggies. If you're not getting the size you want, you're hitting the busy hour. 2) Chicken is a little soft on flavor, gyro is a little on the salty side. You decide. Falafel is always a solid choice. 3) Baba ghanoush is OUT OF THIS WORLD. Best anywhere. It's so smoky and perfect texture. I was licking the container and opening it just to sniff it for an hour afterwards. Sides may be $2.99 for a smallish container that isn't even filled all the way up (you might be able to cajole them in that regard, I didn't try), but for this plus a fresh pita to dip into it, what a deal. What a deal. So yeah, the pita is awesome too. 4) Hummus doesn't do it for me over storebought. Sorry, just how it is. Tabouleh is tabouleh, nothing special but nothing bad. 5) I know they're running a new burrito promo, but for the same price as a platter, you get a lot less food. Always get the platter. Always. (It comes with some pita quarters so even if you like the sandwich, get the platter.) Disclosure: I had a Yelp 2 for 1 deal on burritos, so I went that way. Now I've got meat-filled, super-saucy lunches for next week. Exciting. 6) People are friendly. At all the Halal Guys, that stands out. You'll enjoy your service. 7) Final tip: Get the red sauce put on fresh. The packets have preservatives, the fresh stuff doesn't (as far as I'm aware). Get plenty of it before they package your meal. They'll tell you it's super unrealistically hot, but no, it's not ghost pepper hot (1 million scovilles). Maybe on the hot side of habanero (300,000 scovilles), if I had to guess. So go ahead, get two squirts. read more

I've passed this place for months and finally pulled in, I know it's a chain and usually i shy away from those but I love a gyro so I gave them a whirl. Absolutely loved it, plenty of meat in my gyro and white sauce on the side so you can load it up as you eat. The hot sauce wasn't as good as I like but still good. Service was quick and easy which always wins points from me read more

Got the chicken platter. Can't imagine what grade of dark chicken they're buying but it tasted rancid. They give you packets of white sauce that's just trash soybean oil to hide the nasty chicken flavor. Never again. Don't eat this, it belongs in the trash where they found it. read more

I've tried the original stand in NYC plenty of times and been to a few of their stores around NJ. I was craving a platter so decided to swing by and get a rice and chicken platter. The staff was friendly and the food was good. My only downside is the temperature of the food. The rice was rather a mix between room temperature and cold. So I ended up having to take it home and heat it up my self. read more

So although nothing will beat the OG stands in new york, this place is not bad for a sit down restaurant version. Really glad there's a location near me instead of going to NYC. Their food is consistent all throughout. Stopped by today to finally try this place out for lunch. I heard they opened a few months ago and we were in the area so figured we'd try them out. Came in just before 3:00 and there were only a few other people dining. We each decide to go with a small platter since it was a late lunch. We got 1 Combo platter Chicken and Gyro, and 1 Beef Gyro platter. The size was more then enough for lunch and it was really tasty. The lettuce and tomato was fresh, the rice was flavorful, the meat was juicy, and I loved the white sauce... I just think I over did it by asking for extra but that was my fault. We were both happy with our lunch choice today and glad we were in the area. read more

The Halal Guys - Small Chicken Gyro Platter with extra white sauce - Middle Eastern Near Me - Union, New Jersey

When I heard this place was opening nearby, it felt like my hometown won something! On their opening day, long-ass lines were out the door but once I got to the counter, they were all about amazingly fast service with highly-motivated assembly line speed. The Chicken & Gyro Combo Platter is the one to get! It comes with fluffy rice, an okay tomato and lettuce salad, and soft pita bread for $8.79. I mix the meat, rice, salad, and whites sauce up for a tasty, filling combo. They offer a smaller version for a dollar less. Their hot sauce is thick, dark, and legit! Their white sauce helps cool it down and extra on a platter's 50 cents more - do it. Their Baklava's okay and easier to eat when literally handled (a fork doesn't work well) and their hummus is pretty good. I'd skip their Tabbouleh since it's completely missing lemon and needs more bulgur for texture. They have good crinkle-cut fries similar to White Castle's, but crispier. The Halal Guys might be a fast food joint, but they have some awesome down home flavors! ***Their rewards program gives you a month of double points and a free drink, then menu items that range between 1 and 3 points get you a free platter at 50. read more

This place just opened up so I thought I'd check it out.... I'm being generous with 4 stars. This is my 1st time here and I like to give new places a chance Place was packed Menu is simple Staff was friendly So I decided to try the falafel platter .... comes with rice , pita, lettuce and tomato. Falafel were pretty good. The rest- rice etc was eh. There are 4 sauces... a white sauce ( made with mayo) a red sauce ( which is not hot sauce that I like- it's a pasty super hot sauce) , a bland tzatzaki sauce and a barbecue sauce ( that I didn't try) I would come back to have the falafel as a side - they sell them two for $1. I would try their hummus , their gyro sandwiches. I doubt I would get a platter again because most of it I don't eat. read more

I've been enjoying the Halal Guys for the past decade. In my college years, we regularly waited for up to an hour for a plate, often well into the early morning hours. Now that they are less than 10 minutes from my house, they are my favorite place again! Welcome to Union, may your stay be long and prosperous! Update: I really hope you consider changing your "loyalty program" policy. I earned a complimentary platter, but was denied use because it excludes lamb. I cannot find that fine print anywhere. Also, train your team in customer service. I'm sorry but the attitude is off putting. read more
