They were playing more style club music which was pretty cool and very unique for a restaurant but they also have kind of like a club towards the back right of the establishment which is pretty cool. Service was mediocre the servers all speak Spanglish so it's very difficult to understand them. La Chula restaurant has a lot going for it. It's a somewhat small space serving tasty Mexican food and it also has a bar. I didn't try any margaritas but maybe next time. However, I the chips and salsa were okay. The price for them was a little much in my opinion. The chicken burrito bowl came in a fun tortilla bowl. The star of the show was the chicken which I thought was excellently seasoned. The chicken, guacamole, veggies, beans, and rice all paired well which made the dish tasty. A great Tex-Mex place in the heart of downtown Rahway. Biggest con is the parking situation. We walked in as a group of 4 and were seated immediately. The drinks were strong and delicious ( we collectively got the green& blue sangrias, chihuahua ( made with aguardiente)). We got the birria tacos and they were delicious. I absolutely loved La Chula. The restaurant is fun and vibrant with food/drinks to match! My friend suggested this spot for our double date and it lived up to everything she said it was. We ordered a bunch of different menu items: Food: - Queso Fundido - Guac - Salmon Tropical - Chicken Quesadilla - Steak Tacos Drinks: - Isla Mujeres - La Jefa Margarita - Tequila shots Food came out quick and it was delicious! If you order guac, you HAVE to get it with tropical style (w/ mango). It adds a sweet touch to it. For the queso fundido, we were able to order it without chorizo as they have a mushroom option as well or you can order it plain. I really enjoyed the salmon tropical, especially with the chunks of mango paired with white rice. Their drink presentation was on point even down to the shots. My drink was the La Jefa marg and added guava with my first drink and strawberry for the second. Very tasty! Service was fairly quick as we didn't find ourselves waiting too long for our waiter. All in all, La Chula is a great for date nights, girls nights and friend meet ups. The restaurant is lively and they play music which isn't super loud so you can still have conversations. I give this place a 3.5. I came here on a Tuesday for taco Tuesday's and karaoke night. I came around 7pm but I guess that was too early for karaoke because it didnt start until about 9pm. The place is extremely small, but they do have an outdoor patio. I came with my sister and we asked about the taco Tuesday specials. They told us basically all the taco selections are half off. The menu was on tablets as well. So we ordered the chicken tacos with flour tortillas, rice, beans, eleotes, and chips with salsa. I also got a virgin passion fruit mojito and my sister got the lemondae. Both drinks were extremely sour. I had to dilute it with water but it was still good. The food cane out about 10 min later and the presentation was night with the smoke from the dry ice. The chicken tacos where ok, the rice was ok, the beans were bland beyond belief, and we didnt care for the salsa choices. The elotes was really good as well but had a chipotle type mayo. All in all, I would definatly come back. The bill was $50 and the most expensive thing was the corn which was $10. We were served by Johnathan, and he was good. They had taco Tuesday with half off tacos and $8 frozen margaritas. I started with the frozen margarita, and I didn't care for it. Visited for a girl's night out and was blown away by the amazing staff and food. We were a party of 7 and they were trying to sit us inside in a table for 6, but after we requested if we could sit outside we were pleasantly surprised by the beautiful decor and the amazing waiter. To start we ordered the guacamole with mango, the queso with chorizo, street corn, taquitos with chicken, nachos and Bombones de jalapenos. All were delicious and served in beautiful and unique way. Drinks were all also beautiful and delicious. For the entree I has the birria tocos with a side of cilantro-lime rice. I am usually disappointed with birria tacos, but theirs were delicious. Came to La Chula on a Sunday afternoon with friends. We were seated immediately by the hostess. The entire restaurant was decorated for Christmas which felt festive. We started with the chihuahua cocktail which was aesthetically cute and actually tasted good. I got the birria tacos which were delicious. I love how crisp the taco shell was while the meat was very tender. I also got the blue sangria which was in a huge wine glass and they filled it almost to the brim. The bartender was definitely heavy handed with that drink. We also got the nachos with chicken (not pictured) which was like a mountain of food. Three of us were able to split it. For dessert, we had churros and ice cream which came in this super cute mini ice cream carriage. The staff was super nice. Our table got complimentary shots and we got our picture taken which was featured on their Instagram story. I had a great time. WOW!!!! Some of the best queso birria tacos I've ever had!!! The order comes with 4 and they're small but packed with flavor!!! The beef is perfectly seasoned and cooked. Perfect amount of cheese and the tortilla has the right amount of crunch from being grilled. The consommé is so flavorful that I drank the rest once I finished the tacos. Started with a couple of flavored margaritas they were all good.We ordered the flautas and esquites as appetizers. The flautas were really good with a great presentation, the esquites with chorizo were ok. We shared the El Volcajete an La Mexican for dinner, good portions and very flavorful. Our waitress was not very attentive and we had to always look for her at one point it felt like half hour passed without seeing her. This place is way to small to get lost. On the other hand the busboy was great! Another downfall is they add the gratuity to the bill and we were a group of three. Happy Wednesday Adventurers! I finally got to try this spot out for date night and it did not disappoint. We found parking around the block since the streets are narrow. First off, the place is so pretty and vibrant! I love color and this place did it so lovely. Next time I have to take photos of the neon signs and beautiful murals. We sat in the patio area in the far corner, which wasn't too bad but it was very hot. Even though it's a small space they should see if they can install fans to circulate the air. The bar back there is super cute and I can totally imagine nights where dancing occurs. Our server was really great, and took care of everything we needed. My date order the barria quesadilla and I ordered the barria tacos--they're basically the same just stacked and presented differently? Though his had different sauce toppings--both were DELICIOUS!! I have tried a bunch of birria spots and this has been one of the best. I also ordered the Tulum drink, because we love a good cocktail, especially a unique one with coconut and tequila (it doesn't seem to be on the menu, maybe it was a special?); either way it was really good! Just beware the bugs outdoors can fly into your food as they did to my meal multiple times. Eventually we relocated inside and they replaced my order. The steak and shrimp fajitas were really tasty. I was meeting a friend I hadn't seen in a while so this was on my list of places to check out so here we are. We walk in and already I am like, I wanna go clubbing hahaha. La Chula is the latest neighborhood hot spot in Rahway, NJ. The restaurant is vibrant and a great addition to the area. The table ordered a good selection of menu items below: - Guac - Elote La Esquina - Al Pastor Tacos (4) - Carnitas Burrito Bowl - Caesar El Mexicano The food was freshly prepared and delicious. The restaurant has put in obvious efforts towards the presentation of their dishes (see photos). My least favorite was the Caesar salad as it had way too much dressing which made the salad soggy. I will have to remember to ask them to go light on the dressing. My favorite item was the carnitas burrito bowl as it was big enough for two people and tasty. The service was a bit slow but I am fully aware this is a new restaurant. It could've been more on the server rather than the overall service. I am from Dallas tx so compared to Mexican restaurants in the South, the plates may come off a little pricy, but the presentation of each plate is worth the dollar amount. I would describe the atmosphere as a young Instagram aesthetic, but a middle aged crowd. The wait staff is extremely pleasant and accommodating. I had to try this local place. We always eat early so we arrived around 4pm on Saturday. This place filled up fast with Spanish speaking patrons. There was a family, a few couples. This place is decorated in a really happy way that reminds me of mexican eateries. We tried the Rah Wei salad. The tacos al pastor and the tacos de camarones. Everything was amazing! Good portions and great preparations. The shrimp had shredded cabbage and pico de gallo. Tacos al pastor is a well known taco from Mexico city and its grilled garlicky pork with luscious pinapple chunks. It is soo good. The salad was fresh as well as the tacos. We were enjoying it so much I forgot to take pics of the food. I will be back to take pics next time. I noticed that they serve Micheladas which is something i saw on netflix. Kind of a bloody mary with beer. I always wanted to try that. They serve it here! The great thing is you can have a proper dinner with huge portions or just have small tacos. There is something for everyone and every occassion. The only downside is the music is a bit loud, If i can say only one thing. I am way too old for a loud restaurant. Super delicious tacos but their quesadillas are the best I've ever had. They grill the cheese heavily so it just explodes with flavor. Plus the tortilla they use tastes so soft, chewy and sweet - almost like a crepe or pancake. It is so good. They are also careful to follow special requests, which is good.
