Joe's Diner is what I expect in a diner. It has stainless steel. It has 50's decor. It has a rather upscale menu for a diner. And it has a bar??? But it feels like a diner, has the chairs and booths like a diner. You can get a wide variety of food from the menu anytime and they will customize it without a blink of the eye like a diner should. I was seated quickly, drink on the table and order taken before most other places would even look up to acknowledge you walked in the door. I was surprised to see a full service bar on the way to the table. There were burgers, shrimps and grits, salads, sandwiches. It wasn't in the menu but I saw it delivered to another table, and asked for a chicken friend steak sandwich on sour dough, dressed. No problems. You you like fries with that? Let me tell you. I had a great sandwich. The fries were just right and my drink never got below half empty. The price was right and I will be back. If you are looking for fancy dining this isn't it. It's a diner. My experience was an overall disappointment, the place has seem to really go downhill. When me and my family placed our order we had some modifications to what we wanted. But it seemed to be completely ignored when the food was prepared. I asked for eggs scrambled medium and got cold eggs that were scrambled hard, they forgot the sausage, and I had to wait on my hash browns. Once I had everything, the bacon was nasty and tough to the point I didn't eat it. I guess they changed the brand but that was a bad choice. My mom ordered the French toast with blueberries and they forgot to add the blueberries but once it was fixed the French toast was nasty, it tasted burnt. My brother also had issues with his food being wrong that he sent it back because he felt like they just didn't care. He feels that with inflation prices that he should at least get what he wants how he ordered it, which you can't really fault him for that. Last thing, I like to have water with my food but for some reason why the water here taste really weird and it's been like that before this experience. I thought it was just the city but I went to another restaurant in Flowood and their water was just fine so I'm not sure what the problem is. read more

Met a friend, her kids, and her mom here that I had not seen in years They chose this location because they had beignets and her mama wanted beignets. Our server was Kirsten and she was super friendly and attentive, offering great suggestions. We ordered a round of beignets for the table and while they were loaded with powdered sugar, they were definitely not a substitute for the real thing. They were not light and fluffy, but overcooked and tough. My friend had the sirloin Benedict and it definitely looked yummy and she said it was tasty. I had the country quesadilla because it offered a little bit of everything and that seemed to be what my taste buds had a hankering for. It was supposed to have pico but it did not and just seemed a little dry. I did ask for it to be brought and I was brought store bought salsa which is not the same thing. I know it's being picky, but it was definitely one of the selling points of the dish for me. There is no comparison between the two and no explanation was given for why I was handed salsa instead of pico. Normally, I would not go to a restaurant rated this low on yelp, but when someone else requests it, I will give it a chance. Jo's diner wasn't horrible, but I probably wouldn't go back anytime soon simply because I think there are probably better options in the area worth giving a try. This is a great place to come for breakfast or lunch. I can't say anything about dinner because I've never been here for dinner. The prices are very reasonable and they offer a much appreciated military discount. The waitstaff are extremely friendly, very courteous, but they do seem to be a little understaffed and overworked. I say this only because there are times when it seems that the wait for your food seems excessive. That would be my only complaint though. The food is really on point. I can't speak too much to the overall menu as I have only had a couple of things. You find something you like and you stick with it I guess. The hamburgers are incredible. The one with blue cheese is usually the one that I stick with. Make sure you get the onion rings. The only other menu item I've had is the chicken fried steak with mashed potatoes. This is the meal that I will probably want to have on my deathbed. Great place to eat but be ready to wait. It's worth it!! read more

I love this place. The ambience is great and everyone is pleasant. I cannot get enough of their seafood omelette. I love to meet up with a few people, so you can share. So, I ate the seafood omelette and a few hours later, my stomach went off. I had food poisoning. I was in the bathroom for 2 days. For breakfast I had my usual yogurt and fruit. It's Thursday, I am feeling better. I called them yesterday and told them what happened. I asked for the manager, so I guess it was him. It was a la de da!! I was so I'll! I come here often and it is typically a good experience with polite attentive servers, but today was tad different with our server being very distant and not visiting the table besides to take the order and drop off the food. No refills nor were we every checked on when the food was dropped off nor after the food was dropped off. My wife and I needed some mayo and some ranch for our sandwiches we ordered and we waited and waited trying to get the waiters attentions but everytime we seen him he was running off full speed and mind you it was not during peak hours around 2:30. After eating here a second time we've decided it's just not worth the money! They advertise that "you might have to wait but the food is fresh and wonderful"... So not true!!!! My "hash brown casserole" was frozen dry potatoes with a little bit of Parmesan cheese sprinkled on top. My ($14) crabcakes Benedict tasted so fishy I'm sure the crab hasn't seen the ocean in many months. I was afraid to eat it for fear of getting sick. Very disappointing but all they get is two tries. My shake was great as always.....the rest disappointed. My wife's omelet came out almost 5 minutes after my phillysteak sandwich. So, I ate a cold cold sandwich. The wait has always been a little bad. However, what really made me give them one star was I waited 15-20 minutes for my shake. As a prior waitress I do understand that on busy days shakes take time, BUT when I can see you on your phone and staring at the window as if food is going to come any faster instead working on something (like my shake), that's not good service. We watched the one of the chefs go and talk to a table for 15 minutes despite the fact they had a large amount of tickets. Then two tables that came in after us got served and we had been there for 45 minutes. Thats not good considering our order. Finally the manager ( I think) helped us and comped our meal and put in to go. That's great news, until I hearthe servers literally cursing about my mom and m e for her mistakes. This is absolutely a disgrace! I ordered the "crawfish etouffee" it was instant rice, Rotel sauce and tomato sauce! It was absolutely disgusting and tasted more like a chip dip with hard rice. They just need to train their host/hostess on how to seat people example two regular size adults cannot sit back to back comfortably behind each other at a table setting. I had the pancake breakfast and my parents had the traditional and Belgian Waffles breakfasts. Everything was cooked perfectly and was delicious! The coffee was good, and my parents both enjoyed their breakfast as well! I'll definitely be back - it's not often fried eggs and hash browns are cooked perfect! The whites were cooked and the yolk was runny,which to me is perfect! The hash browns were crispy on the outside, and yet tender on the inside - again, just how I like them! The pancakes were very yummy, and everything was warm and fresh! Unlike others complaints, the hostess was prompt and friendly and our waitress was kind and attentive! I am not sure what I was expecting but this was a little different from the traditional diner (They have a full bar!!!) The service was fantastic. Our waitress was fun, informative and prompt. I ordered a bloody mary while we pondered over the menu. This is probably one of the best bloody mary's I have had in ages. I have to admit I was a little disappointed they did not have a Ruben on the menu but there are so many other good choices I soon got over it. We were in on Saturday, Jan 2 and were treated so ridiculously we will not be back - and we were regulars prior to that. A man from the back brought us our food and said to my husband, "I hate what you're wearing and I hate that team." He then stood there staring at us waiting for some kind of response I suppose but our waiter walked up and my husband just started taking to him and ignored the talker. He was not our waiter and had no business commenting one way or another about what he had on. Our waiter was obviously new and young and didn't know what to say or do. I realize it's hard to get workers, but this guy was not new to this restaurant and his comments were totally inappropriate and offensive. I went here today with my family. I appreciate a good set down meal. The ambiance was good, and I ordered the country fried steak, fried okra, turnip greens, and baby Lima. My wife had a patty melt and my daughter had a grilled cheese. Both the breads on the patty melt and grilled cheese were burnt. My wife's onion rings had too much batter and my daughter had maybe 5 fries ? My country fried steak was good, the Lima and okra was good, but the turnip greens had a vinegar taste, it was like they put pepper sauce in the pot. I ordered a milk shake and it was too much of a liquid, the straw wouldn't even stand up in it. My daughter and wife got their food a bit before me. This use to be a local gem. However, it is now a restaurant in decline. With inattentive waiters, poor quality food, and constant menu changes or at least wait staff with no knowledge of past or current promotions/offerings if their still the same. This place only redeeming quality is the relatively cheap meals. Note: Of late (several months) they have had a sign up constantly trying to hire new waiters and cooks. Good food, fair prices, and good service. What could be better than that? They serve breakfast, lunch and dinner, and they have a complete bar. Bloody Mary's, Mimosas if you want a cocktail with your breakfast/brunch. I also give bonus points for NOT being a corporate restaurant, not a Waffle House, etc. My only complaint would be that the decor is standard '50's diner style, with the usual Elvis/Marilyn/Dean iconography.
