Seeing Jorge's 4 star rating, we thought we'd give it another try. Nope, still not worth a visit, unless you like greasy, overwhelmingly cheesy food. "Fresh" is not a word that comes to mind here. They lost a star from me this time, for several reasons: * They decided to mop the whole front part of the store while the rest of the restaurant was fairly full of customers. While I appreciate the idea of cleanliness, it was not a response to a spill, but was a planned event that spread the unpleasant odor of bleach throughout the restaurant. Not an odor one savors while eating. * The water had a horrible flavor to it. Even a slice of lemon couldn't mask it. Iced tea was likewise bad. * The soft drinks were either flat or syrup-y. * I was really hungry when I went there, so ended eating most of my meal, and I didn't feel too well later. Sorry, Jorge's. We went here last night. The service was awful, and the food was worse. Everyone's food came out, except my youngest. She ordered a plain hamburger. I asked our waitress if hers would be out soon, and she stated they had to "remake" it because it was wrong. Everyone else was done eating when her cold hamburger came out. It was disgusting! Classic hole in the wall cafe. Very busy inside. I had Chile Relleno with cheese enchilada in red sauce and it was good no complaints. Husband had chicken enchiladas in green sauce. Neither one of us like those it tasted like canned chicken and it just looked unappetizing also. The salsa and the chip seemed like they were store bought. The wait staff was friendly and efficient. First time to Ruidoso NM and I absolutely love this town. A dear friend got a place here in town and invited us. This little restaurant is busy busy busy but the wait is WORTH it! We waiting maybe 20 minutes. The menu had many varieties of food choices and it was hard to pick. However the omelette menu won out for me. I go the Cindy Omelette and man it was Delicious! It had onion, jalapeños, sausage, bacon, and mushrooms! Had some wheat toast and with hash-browns. Now sometimes with hash-browns they are not crispy but when requested - excellent crunch! I own a home here and Ruidoso is NOT. A good place to actually eat Mexican food people. It all pretty much sucks. That being said you will also only find red and green sauce. If I had any guts I'd open a restaurant that also did Tex mex as hello so many Texans (1 local to 10 tourists) have a craving for what's familiar as well. I digress. We are fine with red and green sauce. It is New Mexico after all! Hubby loves green. I don't like it spicy so I stick red (hence I'd rather just have chili con carne and cheese lol). This place is gross. I'm sorry ITS GROSS. I have given it three chances. First time I had plain tacos. Meh ok how do you mess up a taco? You don't. So it was ok. Next to visits I tried other items. They were greasy and everything was soft. Except chips. I mean. No chewability to anything. All just tasted left over. The worst thing about this place and why, as a good tipper (hello waitresses. Hubby often tips atleast 25% sometimes more, yes even on alcohol lol) are the rude ASSED WAITRESSES. You sweety, ARE NOT doing me a favor letting me find a ripped up booth to sit in and be greeted by your "hurry up I don't have all day" attitude. No smiles. It's like a sign that says ORDER, don't ask questions and for GODS SAKE DONT MAKE SMALL TALK! Go elsewhere. Ole Tacos ok, if you want great Mexican drive into Tularosa and eat at casa de Suenos. Experienced Jorge's during a vacation recently. A friend recommended it to us and we thoroughly enjoyed the food. We are a brunch and the place was packed with hunters coming in from the woods. I had huevos a la mexicana with a side of green chile and it hit the spot. Great flavors. My dining partner had green chile chicken enchiladas and of all the spots we'd sampled over the course of a week (including Casa Blanca), Jorge's was the top. Only slight miss was the service. Fast paced, diner style service and we basically didn't see the server from the time we placed the order until the time we wandered to the cash register because we had no idea if we would ever get a ticket/bill. Oh My Heavens! We have been coming to Ruidoso for over 2yrs, and we decided to venture out of our normal go-to places and give Jorge's a try. My husband and I both wanted to kick ourselves for waiting this long to try it out. WOWZA!!! When you start with a cup of stellar homemade salsa and chips, you know the food must be good, well it was Delicious! I had the ultimate fajitas, shrimp, chicken and steak (which we could have definitely split) and he had the chili relleno #32. I forgot to take pictures, but no worries, we decided to go back tomorrow for dinner.. so I'll be sure to take them then. So after having to wait over a hour at dennys down the street our 12 person group popped into this jewel. They were already busy, got us seated and the waitresses tag teamed all of Their tables making sure nobody went without. The food was wonderful and bathrooms clean. This used to be one of our favorites but something has gone terribly wrong! Let's start with chips (stale) and salsa (canned picante????) For a disappointing beginning. Next the entrees- my boyfriend had enchiladas... eagerly he digs in and finds the red sauce disgusting.... beans partially rehydrated? I opted for a safe bet quesadilla- who can mess that up? Spent the night in Ruidoso Downs and our group was looking for a place to eat. Jorge's Cafe was across the street from our hotel so we opted to stay close and give them a try. The place is not large and they were already hopping with business, but they were able to accommodate the 10 of us. The service was quick and friendly and the food was very good. They have a huge selection, so it might take you a minute or two in order to get through the menu. read more

Great breakfast food! I had Cindy Omelette and wife had Earle and bacon. Both were very good! We eat here on every trip to Ruidoso.

There was a group of six of us, took over twenty minutes from time of first plate on table until last. I ordered fajitas, they brought out meat with onions and peppers, and 15 minutes later they brought out my rice and beans. My wife ordered ceviche, specifically asked if it was spicy and told no, when it was delivered it was too hot for her to eat. The waitress removed the plate, when paying for meal I asked about ceviche and waitress said it was put on your table and you're paying for it. Overall we all agreed it was fair at best. read more

There are some very good things about Jorge's. We just dropped in on a Monday evening and the place was packed, but we were able to be seated immediately at the last free, clean table. Wait staff was slow getting to us, but they weren't just standing around. My wife had chicken enchiladas with red sauce. She enjoyed the flavor, but thought the sauce a little too spicy. The food was very good, we had tamales, enchiladas, Burritos, Tampiquena, and Asada Steak Tacos over a few visits. This is the only restaurant we visited more than once in Ruidoso. This was our first night in New Mexico so we wanted some good Mexican food. Jorge's delivered on the food but the service left a lot to be desired. Our server was friendly enough, but we had to yell at her anytime we needed anything. It took forever to get our food and then my daughter's fajitas came out cold; even the cast iron skillet was cold. Someone (assistant manager or another server; not sure what his role was) replaced the fajitas and took care of us. But a cold cast iron skillet should have never left the kitchen. And if it did, the server should have caught it. read more

She found the meat flavor list and the tortillas soggy. My daughter got the bean and cheese burrito and didn't like it. I got the bacon wrapped shrimp. I spotted this place when visiting the area recently with Gary, my husband. This unique-shaped small building sits in the driveway of a motel, looking very simple. However, I sensed a popularity by the locals for good food in simple ambiance. And I was not let down! Gary and I totally enjoyed our large and delicious Mexican meals. The price was right and you get a lot of good food for the money. It felt like a family-run business, which I always like to support. The server was friendly and helpful.
