Our nephew said Comal was the best food in Ruidoso and he nailed it. Open 11-3 except Tuesday the lunch was amazing. Several versions of the combination plate were ordered and everyone raved about the food. Starting with chips and salsa (no extra charge) and the salsa had to be homemade, it was delicious. My combination was a beef taco, beef enchilada and chile relleno with beans and rice. Seriously one of the best meals I've had in a very long time. You owe it to yourself to try this. It is a small place but easily accommodated our group of six. As we were leaving the proprietor pointed out the house made mole sauce headed for a lucky table. I was too full to even think about it but did any way! We'll be back whenever we are in town. read more

This is one of our favorite places to eat in Ruidoso! As you walk in you're greeted by both owners, they're so freakin nice, and the restaurant is welcoming and cozy. Usually we eat lunch here a couple times a week either in-person or through delivery app. My go-to meal is the chicken fajitas with corn tortillas. I always have at least one fajita to take home w a little rice & beans, the portion size is great! I also like their daily specials; one was a taco, enchilada and flan and one was guacamole tostada, enchilada and flan - great meals and the flan is delicious. My niece likes to make her own combo, she's enjoyed the chimichanga, enchiladas and tacos. Their salads are great too! We've tried them all and like them all. Meals all come w chips and salsa which is lovely and the salsa is great. If you're looking for a lunch spot while visiting Ruidoso I recommend you stop at Comal! Except on Tuesday, they're closed Tuesdays. read more

Not sure how this place has a 4.4 rating. Right when you walk in you see the dirty kitchen. The guy cooking and coming to tables is a complete jerk (pretty sure that's the owner) and nobody carries a smile. If you're so miserable then why have a restaurant where you have to deal with people? Food is not great. Not sure how they're open. Can't say anything good about this place. Wouldn't recommend to my enemy. read more

Best Mexican food in town. This small family restaurant has always provided excellent meals. It's cooked fresh and best of all It's great value. This hidden gem will be worth your visit. read more

This is clearly one of the best Mexican restaurants in Lincoln county! This establishment rivals some of the eateries we have visited in Santa Fe! The ambiance is warm and welcoming, and with Covid, they have had to scale back their hours of operation, but nonetheless, it's a welcome delight to be able to enjoy a meal there with friends and family! I had the taco salad with steak, and it had the greens, cheese, tomatoes, guacamole, and the best marinated steak I had had in quite sometime. I will definitely be ordering this again the next time we return. My husband ordered ground beef enchiladas with their signature red sauce, and again, it never disappoints! It was delicious. My daughter ordered the cheese quesadilla and it was bubbled over filled with asadero cheese. It looked delectable! They follow safety protocols by spacing all parties at tables over six feet apart, and the wait staff is extremely attentive. We had our drinks topped off numerous times. We love coming here, and recommend it without reservation or hesitation! read more

For the ski town being a tourist trap, this modestly decorated with "recuerdos" from various towns in Mexico and even a Machete from the DR is enough to tell someone that this place is there to deliver. This mom and pop operation is perfect to satisfy your hunger! The owner was very friendly and welcoming, their plates were flavorful and generously portioned. My kids had the quesadillas and bean and cheese burrito plates which were both pretty big. My the wife had the aromatic chicken fajita plate that was big enough to feed two people. I asked for the house special to be able to try a variety of things to include the chimichanga, chicken enchilada and taco. All were very flavorful. *Note, you are in New Mexico after all so be mindful that some dishes bring the heat in their sauces and salsas so ask the server before you order. Besides the feral horses grazing, wandering the backside of the main strip and hiking trails, this lunch was our highlight to this town. read more

Comal Mexican Restaurant - The house special dish - Mexican Near Me - Ruidoso, New Mexico

The food was tasty. It was very slow though. I assumed that the delay was because they make most things fresh. No beer or wine.

This restaurant was so cute and cozy, it is a husband and wife operated establishment and the service was very nice and made us feel very welcome. Not to mention the food was amazing, we ordered the steak quesadilla and the combo plate, was such a good stop in Ruidoso! read more

Awesome food!!! The chicken fajitas are amazing and they are always tender. Definitely try this place.

The worst service ever! There were four of us and because we had two babies they wouldn't sit us even at separate tables! Turned down a pregnant women and women on crutches with two babies, had to walk even farther to get service! They badly need to work on their customer service! read more

Loved this place! Great food and awesome service! A cozy restaurant that was very inviting. Would definitely recommend the green enchiladas 10/10! read more

If you are in Ruidoso this restaurant is a must stop by place. If I could rate it more than a 5 I would! First off, our server Norma is so sweet. When we asked what mole sauce was made of she explained it and went above and beyond by giving us all little samples of the mole sauce(it was delicious!). Also there salsa is SO GOOD!!! I don't know what they do differently but their food is superior to all of the other Mexican cuisine restaurants. Overall we had absolutely no complaints about anything and it's a great place to grab a bite if you are passing by or in Ruidoso. P.S. Some of there food is veryyy spicy (like burn your tongue off fiery) so if you have a low spice tolerance like me just ask Norma and she will tell you some great dishes to try. 10/10 read more

Came in with a party of 5 and was accommodated to. Loved the ambience and all the food choices. The house special and was excellent. Would 100% recommend for downtown food and to visit before or after shopping. read more

Very friendly and fast service and also inexpensive. Chips were old, salsa is good. Burritos had very little flavor, beans ok, rice not good. Would not go back. read more

Very good, authentic Mexican food. I'm giving it 4 stars because I felt like I didn't get enough food for what I paid. With that said, it was very good. The green chile relleno was flavorful, but could've had a bit more filling. My wife had the red chile enchiladas and they were excellent. The chips and salsa was good, and the homemade chips were nice. read more

Pretty cozy with outdoor dining, kinda quiet, the food was amazing! Had a carne asada, perfect temperature, perfect amount and seasoning was on point! Will come eat here again, also has a public restroom, also the total was cheap at it being at 67.19, with more food. Dessert/churros were amazing! read more

This is a little mom and pop restaurant. Other reviewers who emphasized the authenticity are correct. This is not pre-made, frozen food that they are simply heating up for you, as is so often the case. With the exception of the chips, I think everything we were served was made from scratch. The salsa is good but not great. The guacamole is excellent. The beef fajitas are a good choice. You can tell the flour and corn tortillas are made on site.. The beef and grilled onions came out on a sizzling skillet and were done right. My wife ordered the Mexico City tacos. They were a little bland, but that is how many authentic Mexican dishes are. I would have given this restaurant 3-1/2 stars, but I was not given that option. If you don't try anything else, try the guacamole. read more

Went here on a recommendation and it was tough to find. Was smallish but not crowded when I was there on a Sunday. I had comal enchiladas which had beans, onions, and cheese with beans and rice. The enchiladas were amazing, the sides were small but sufficient. The salsa was a bit odd tasting to me, I never did decide if I liked it. Can't put my finger on why it tasted different. Definitely recommend this place, the service was excellent. read more

If you want real authentic Mexican food while in Ruidoso this place is what you want. Green sauce red sauce it's all on point and off the chain. Family owned and operated dad is the cool and mom and daughter are your servers. Really polite and accommodating. It's a must visit and will definitely be back read more

Comal Mexican Restaurant - Spinach and chicken quesadilla with side of tasty rice and beans - Mexican Near Me - Ruidoso, New Mexico

This is one of Ruidoso's little gems, Great food and service. Don't miss this place while you're in town

Great shopping nearby, but not a great place for a bit to eat. A few others worth considering in the area for the authentic experience.

The service was great so was the food compared to other Mexican restaurants this is real Mexican food drinks amazing will definitely come here again really recommend it! read more

We stumbled across this little restaurant on a Wednesday night during the off season. Most businesses close down early and we walked in right at closing time. The sweet owner said he would "take care of us" and proceeded to stay open late for us. As a native Texan who can eat Tex-mex for every meal I can be pretty picky when it comes to Mexican food. Comal did not disappoint! The green sauce that comes on many of the items was excellent and the service was incredibly quick. We could even see the owner in the kitchen making all of our meals. The food (I can specifically speak for the Comal Enchiladas) was excellent! If you're into local places and friendly people, definitely check out Comal! It's the real deal. read more

Eat here! I highly recommend the Mexico City Tacos. The owners are very sweet and service was fast!

We were drawn by the great reviews to Comal but came away extremely disappointed. We ordered fajitas, chili rellenos and enchiladas. Despite being the only customers in the restaurant, our service was slow. The rice was actually *crunchy* it was so under cooked and it had no flavor. The refried beans were barely warm and flavorless. The fajitas were tough and had no seasoning. The fajitas were served with tortillas that must have been old because they were hard. The enchiladas were okay but the chili rellenos were deep fried and gooey. I assume that the raving reviews are from friends and family of the business. Overall, it was a flavorless, poorly done dinner that they clearly put no effort into. read more

Comal has a nice outdoor eating area that looks like it is shared with other adjoined business. It is very pleasant to look at, made even better by the lovely weather that day. The food was OK, nothing special, but the service was! Our waitress was very attentive and the food was served quickly. We were surprised that they don't have margaritas, since that drink is so often served with Mexican food, but not a big deal for us. The only real complaint I have is the parking - very small lot shared with other businesses, and the spaces are difficult to get in and out of. There is some street parking, though. read more

Best meal we've had in Ruidoso. We would never have found them if not for Yelp reviews. We sat out back on their back porch - nice to be away from the street noise. The guacamole tostadas were awesome. Salsa is just spicy enough. They even brought us samples of the red and green chili sauces so we could decide what to put on our burritos. We will definitely go back. read more

Please do yourself a favor and don't ever come here. First of all the place was dirty , bathroom , the kitchen is visible when you enter and it doesn't look clean whatsoever. The ground beef all had absolutely no flavor (besides a slight metallic flavor ). Nachos are not even nachos you get 4 chips LITERALLY. My water had more flavor than anything else. If you respect your body and what enters it don't come here. NO FLAVOR AT ALL!!! read more

If I could do zero stars I would. The food did not taste like anything. My nachos had no flavor whatsoever and I got 4 chips in my nachos. LITERALLY 4 soggy chips total! The other dishes that my family ordered were just as bland. The meat had a metallic flavor. The place was visibly dirty. Save your money and skip this place. read more

First I'm from houston Texas and have access to a lot of great Mexican food!! This was the first place we came to on my recent trip into town. I grew up coming to Ruidoso and this was my friend trip in 11 years... This place was the most bland Mexican food I have ever had. There was no seasoning, no flavor nothing. While the food it's self wasn't bad.. There was really nothing exciting about it. Throughout the weekend we got to eat at some great places and for a place that uses green chills on everything this place just had no flavor. And the ice tea was gross! However, the service was good and the people in there were super nice. read more

Delicious. Very small place, with a bigger plain older looking back room. Chips were stale on our visit but that was my only complaint! Loved the staff, loved to see the cook/owner run back to his house in the back yard and bring more food over (obviously there is cooking going on over in that kitchen too) which just reminds me that im helping a family run establishment stay in business when i eat here. Well deserved also. Great Mole chicken enchiladas!! Very good food all around, no complaints at all. Wonderful place, please try! You will not be disappointed. Plus they aren't expensive at all! read more

Ate lunch here for the first time and was very pleased. Food is authentic, home made and reasonably priced. Service was very friendly and efficient. Reinforced my propensity to choose a family owned restaurant over a chain. read more

Amazing food! We visited on a Saturday when everything else was either packed or closed. I only give 4 stars bc the gentleman who sat us & cooked our food also waited on us & was not very friendly at all. Maybe I'm used to Texas where service is always super friendly? Anyways, the street tacos are to die for, Monterrey chicken was very good & my parents enjoyed their pick 3 with enchiladas & a relleno. I wish they at least had beer or margaritas (I mean, it's Mexican food) but everything was great from salsa to meals. We will definitely go back & just hope for better service. read more

Open since 2009 this has to be one of the best kept secrets in Ruidoso. The chef must read reviews, because my wife had the Mexico City Tacos and the flavor was phenomenal. Every dish at our table was delicious and reasonably priced. read more

Good food done right...simple and tasty. Friendly folks in a funky setting. Sit in the back patio and get a Santa Fe feel.

My boyfriend took me here for my birthday after seeing so many reviews only to be disappointed. They brought out complimentary chips which were stale. We were so excited when we finally got our food and the rice was crunchy, like it had been sitting out for a while and the beans tasted like they came from a can. My boyfriend ordered the mole, which was even more disappointing. He would describe it as a chicken breast with a melted chocolate snack pack poured on top. I was embarrassed to have even chosen such a place. read more
