Samson ganjjajang
Love V.

I had Samson ganjjajang and fried mandu. Ganjjajang was really good. Noodles seemed to be freshly made there because it had a nice texture and little chewy.

This tiny but cute restaurant is located next door to Danbo Ramen on Robson Street. Most of the time, there is enough metered street parking available for one to find a spot after 10 to 15 minutes of searching around. The inside of the restaurant has 4 small tables and a bar. Seating groups larger than 6 can be difficult. Ordering is done with QR code and the food comes out after about 15 minutes. We tried their sweet and sour pork (Tangsuyuk), Jjambbong, and Jajangmyeon. All three were delicious. The pork was crunchy and flavorful. The Jjambbong, while a bit overly oily and spicy for my taste, was still good. If you are unsure of what to get, they offer half-half options. I recommend this place.

Tangjammyeon combo

Good solid place for Korean Chinese food. The jjajjangmyeon was good and better than the jjampong, which was a bit lacking in the flavor. The tangsuyuk was also one of the better versions I have had recently. The menu is pretty extensive, and the combos are a good way to try a couple of dishes at once. The japchaebap is a little different form the versions I've had in Korea but the kiddo loved it. It's a small space, so get there early or an order to go. But definitely a good place to try Korean Chinese food.

Joong Won is right next to the Hannam Korean Market (but on the main ground floor) and serves really good Korean style Chinese food. The place is almost "hole in the wall" small with about 6-7 tables for 2 and a counter that sits about 4-5 people. It's pretty clean and the bathroom door is interesting with an Asian sliding door style. I had the jjam ja which is the jjampong (spicy seafood soup with noodle) and jajangmyun (noodles with black bean sauce) and they were both quite tasty. They have lots of other 2 in 1 combos which I think is unique and cool. I think they only take debit cars or cash fyi.

No. 1 on the menu. Jajangmyeon
Joanna L.

This place was average for jajangmyeon and I wasnt happy with the service. They aren't friendly at the restaurant. Also, they dont take credit. Only debit. The food was cold. I enjoy it more when my food is hot. Also, I felt a bit sick after. I will probably not go back because I had better. I would not recommend this place to anyone.

#53. Half and half of fried pork in sweet sour sauce and jajang noodles
Carolyn L.

It took me a while to order as I was befuddled by the list of items on the menu. In the end I decided on the tansuyuk + jajangmyeon combo as recommended by a Yelper. The tansuyuk (fried pork) was good though I did not care for the sweet and sour sauce. It was too sweet for me. The jajangmyeon was delicious. I loved the chewiness of the noodles and the sauce was tasty. It went really well with the tansuyuk. I wish they also offer a fried chicken version as I am not a big fan of pork. I need to come back again to try the soup noodle which has different level of spiciness. It is a very small place and be ready to wait for a table. Cash or debit only.

You can easily miss this place when you pass by because there is so many shops to eat along Robson but I was feeling like a noodle day and for noodles, I came. Depending on the timing you come, there may or may not be a wait for a table. At the time I went, they didn't have any smaller tables so I got a four person table to myself. There's an overwhelming about of items on the menu but I'm that person who likes to sample a bit of everything so decided to go for the half jajangmyeon and half jjambbong. And as expected, it was noodles on noodles. The noodles for both dishes are the same but of course jjambbong is in a level 1 spicy seafood broth while the jajangmyeon is covered in black bean sauce. Personally devoured the jjambbong pretty quickly but eased off the spiciness with alternating bits of both dishes! Traditionally I've seen jajangmyeon coming with a side of pickled radish and this one is no different! On tv shows, people eat it with the jajangmyeon so I decided to try it out myself and it definitely works at helping to cleanse your palate of the greasy flavours; also, I drank the jjambbong soup which also helped! It's the perfect sharing dish for a group if you want to get the other half and half dishes here as you're provided with a giant pair of scissors. The noodles are dense and can get tangled up pretty easily so I can see why some would prefer it to be cut up but personally, I prefer longer noodle strands so I didn't. Overall, I'm glad I got to try this place. Don't underestimate the half and half as it comes with a lot of noodles. Would probably go for another half and half if I were to come back because a full dish of jajangmyeon would definitely leave me passed out!

We are coming here on a regulary basis. The food is great, the prices fair and the waitress is always very friendly. We also see that they take the Covid-19 requirements very seriously and therefore, we were always feeling safe.

Seafood noodle soup
Christina L.

We love spicy food so when we saw the sign that said they are the "spiciest restaurant in Canada", we had to come try. I ordered the seafood noodle soup, and my partner ordered the vegetable and beef stir fry noodle. The noodles are tender and fresh so both dishes were enjoyable. The squid and mussels in my soul were delicious and fresh-tasting. However, to our disappointment, even though we asked for spicy when we ordered, neither dish was spicy at all! They do give you a bowl of chilli pepper, but even that wasn't spicy. I guess you have to specify which level of spiciness you want upon ordering, or they will automatically serve you level 1, which is really really mild. :( I think the food quality is actually good so we are willing to come back, but next time we will specifically ask for level 2 or 3 spicy! Update: we went back and asked for level 3 spicy, which is awesome spicy! I think level 2 might be what most people can tolerate, but level 3 was invigorating lol. Still impressed by the freshness of the noodle and the fresh homemade flavours!

Half & Half

A hidden gem in the heart of downtown! This restaurant is so discreet and easy to miss but it is a must try! Joong Won offers half and half dishes ideal for those who are indecisive or want to try it all! I love the idea of this, I can get so many varieties of dishes this way! Their pork was soo crispy and the sweet and sour sauce was delicious! It was my first time trying black bean noodles and I was not disappointed ! The seafood soup noodles were super spicy but still delicious!

We came here because it seemed like the restaurant on Robson that was the busiest (when lacking access to yelp reviews, this is the best strategy to find the better restaurants in a pinch). Luckily, there was one more table left, so we were able to snag that. I ordered a half and half (you can customize here and get half orders of some of the main dishes), where I got half fried rice, half seafood flavored soup noodle. I thought it was pretty great overall. My friend Dot a spicy noodle at level 2 spicy, which I thought was nice. The chicken served in the dish was a little questionable, since it seemed super dried out, which makes me question how they prepared it. It would probably be better in this case just to not include it in the dish. I'm a big fan of the fact that you're able to adjust your spiciness level in many of the noodles here. They even have a challenge where you if you can finish a level 10 spicy noodles in under 25 minutes, you win a prize. I think stuff like this is great, and hope to come back again whenever I'm next in Van.

Black bean noodlr

This is your typical Korean - Chinese restaurant. The portions are big. The restaurant is small sooo... Not many seats. We ordered the jajangmyeon ( black bean noodles ) It was good! Tangsuyuk ( sweet and sour pork Korean style ) Not bad! They put the sauce seperate instead of mixing it which made it stay nice and crispy. jjampong My husband ordered medium spice and man was that spicy. I didn't bother eating his because it was way too spicy for me. Even my husband said it was pretty spicy and his spice tolerance is high. We each had a noodle dish and shared the pork and we were stuffed. It was hard trying to eat the rest of our food but, we finished it! The washroom is clean and nice but, the door is totally weird. It's a sliding door and the next table is literally right outside... I wouldn't wanna be in that seat if someone was taking a number 2 they'd definitely smell or hear it. Lol

This is it!!!! Yes, the place I have been looking for! This small six table Korean restaurant is exactly what I have been looking for! A good Korean restaurant is hard to find. Yes, we all have our favorites, but what happens when your favorite is an hour away by bus?! This is my new local go-to Korean restaurant. Part of me didn't want to write this review cause I'm selfish and want to keep this place to myself lol We had the medium fried chicken with sweet and sour sauce. The best thing about this is that the sauce was served on the side! So smart!!!! The chicken stayed crispy! Not too much batter, lots of chicken (see picture), and the sauce is delicious! Also had the black bean noodles and the cold soy bean noodle. EVERYTHING was good! Service was excellent! The waitress was very patient and helpful! Going back for sure!

Chinatown

A Gastronomic Awakening in Chinatown! You don't truly know…read moreuntil you go--and now that I've been, I'm haunted. As I write this, I am literally still dreaming of the Hong Kong Style BBQ Pork. It didn't just "eat" well; it dissolved into a decadent, sweet, fatty puddle of pure bliss. Walking in, the vibe is quintessential Chinatown: a bustling counter, a glass case showcasing glistening roasted treasures, and a seating area that trades fancy decor for pure, functional authenticity. We were clearly out of our element, probably looking like deer in headlights, but the staff met our confusion with warm smiles. Then came Bobby--the absolute heart and soul of this place. We walked in expecting the standard American-Chinese routine, but Bobby whisked us away to a cozy table and treated us like family. He started us off with a fragrant jasmine tea so naturally sweet and floral it didn't need a grain of sugar--perfect for a biting winter night. While we flirted with the Happy Hour menu, Bobby took the reins. You don't say no to a man with that much charisma and passion! On his expert recommendation, we pivoted to the Two-Meat Combo (BBQ Pork + Soy Chicken) with a side of their famous Roast Duck. The food arrived in a lightning-fast 10 minutes, but the real treat was Bobby's play-by-play on how each dish was prepared. You can taste the pride in every bite. The balance was masterclass: a symphony of sweet, salty, and umami. The meats were succulent, the skins were shattery-crisp, and the glazes were perfectly sticky. The undisputed heavyweight champion, however, was that Hong Kong BBQ Pork. Imagine the best "burnt ends" of your life, drenched in a caramelized, mouth-watering sauce that demands your full attention. We left Chinatown BBQ feeling more than just sated--we felt enlightened. If you're looking for a "one in a million" meal, let Bobby order for you. You won't regret it.

With about 9-10 people per table, we were treated to what felt like at least ten courses. There wasn't much time for photos, as conversation and catching up naturally took precedence. The standouts were the seafood fried rice and the green onion lobster and crab stir-fry -- rich, comforting, and generously flavoured, the kind of dishes that quietly anchor a long meal. It was a busy holiday weekend, and the restaurant was packed. Our original 7:00 p.m. reservation was delayed until 8:00 p.m., leaving many of us waiting outside in the cold. Once seated, the pacing felt off, with dishes arriving out of sequence, which gave the meal an oddly disjointed rhythm. A small apology or update from the staff would have been welcome, but none came. Overall, the food was very tasty, and I would consider returning -- particularly to explore more of their seafood offerings.
