Wow. This place blew me away. I can't believe I never thought to come here. We did take out since it did not appear that it would be child friendly based on the reviews here. The food was piping hot still once I got back to the hotel. The bar staff was awesome, friendly and warm- treating me as if I were a regular. The food.......... oh man......the food is incredible. Baked artichoke hearts- fantastic. The filet mignon- cooked to perfection and better than Boston steak houses! The pork dish was incredible as well. This is my new go to! Love it!!!!!! Food was solid and server was excellent (though a little talkative for my taste). Kind of an odd business model. Feels a little like a "blue-haired" restaurant based on the reserved menu and general ambiance (piano and sax live music, overall dark lighting, traditional pairings hung, etc), but service was young and upbeat even using an iPad during service. Jonathan's Ogunquit is one of the best restaurants in the area. We loved everything from the food, atmosphere, and the staff. The food is so incredibly fresh, and its flavored to perfection, not overly salty. And a bonus for me, they have a lazy lobster entrée. So many places will not even crack so much as a claw to help you out, so the lazy lobster is quite a find. And there is so much lobster! From appetizers to desserts everything was perfection. Staying at the Meadowmere, you can order Jonathan's for room service. Had a delicious late dinner one evening. I ordered Wild Mushroom Pappardelle (luscious), blue cheese dressed lettuce wedge salad (asked for no bacon and had to scrape it off, losing some of the dressing) and decadent two scoops of chocolate mousse. Husband had real Caesar salad with white anchovies, JJ's Classic Burger and Crème Brulee for dessert. Not sure if it makes a difference, but I got the thanksgiving meal. The artichoke hearts I got were very good, and the bread was great. Dad enjoyed his cob salad, mom said her squash bisque was bland and I agree. For mains 3 of us got pork. The pork was great. But the sides were a little bland (but not bad). Sister said turkey was dry, but to be fair she had no gravy since she doesn't like it. The pie for desert was just bad. Chocolate mouse wasn't bad, but a little on the bitter side. Wait staff was great. The prices were a little high, didn't get much food and was about $200. Would only go again if included in hotel stay like it was this time. read more

Both my wife and I ordered carmelized salmon... was nice dish... sides of mashed potatoes and mixed vegetables was automatic... no choice... not cool for the price, I thought.... it was good but where's the room for some choice.... the cold melon soup with prosciutto was excellent... glad I ordered it.... We had the pleasure of eating here on 7/18/14. The decor is so welcoming and the wait staff was very helpful and efficient. We enjoyed Lobster Bisque and the fresh baked bread to start. Our entrees were the Seafood Pasta which was delicious and overflowing with fresh seafood and the Filet Mignon with the Worcestershire glaze, real mashed potatoes and a vegetable medley with julienned zucchini, summer squash & carrots in a exceptional sauce. Without a doubt, the filet was the best I have ever eaten anywhere, including famous NY Steakhouses. We were a walk in at 5:30 last night with no wait - 8/13/14. I felt like I was eating in a convalescent home. Smelled like one anyway. Bland, cafeteria food. Extremely outdated carpet and furniture. Kind of awkwardly silent, weird atmosphere. I have no idea why anyone would give this place anything over a 2 star. The best thing at our table was the bread. My wife and I went here to see the comedienne, Paula Poundstone. She was great, but Jonathan's was not. In order to get two seats together, I had to also purchase the dinner option ($25 per ticket). I also had to purchase the dessert/drink option ($14 per ticket). A $37 seat then turned into a $76 ticket and with a nice service charge---$83 per ticket. There was no air conditioning and we each got one watered down drink during an hour and a half show. For dinner, there was a very limited menu with no bread as we waited 45 minutes for our food. Food was pretty good, but there really wasn't a lot of concern about the uncomfortable temperature or our wait. We loved Paula Poundstone, but we would really look elsewhere before we came back to Jonathan's. read more

Now on to the food; the lobster bisque was really bad (I didn't eat it but my friend did) and upon hearing a comment from us about the lack of (none) lobster, our waiter commented "sometimes you get some, sometimes you don't," I felt we may be in trouble. The main course was a very expensive pasta dish that did have some nice seafood in it but the pasta itself was so overcooked it was mushy. What restaurant can't cook an al dente pasta? As this was my first meal in Ogunquit, I was leery of what was in store for the rest of the weekend but let me assure you that there are much better restaurants with pricing that you'd expect for the quality of their food. read more

Not like it used to be! Beware the food quality has gone downhill. The decor is old and frumpy. We ordered scallops- no flavor, steak tips over cooked and maple carrots that tasted like nothing. No maple flavor at all. "Smashed potatoes" were not anything but tasteless mashed potatoes. Bread basket was steal and if you want more steal bread (you don't) it cost you $$. Overpriced and no service. Sad to say bye bye to Jonathan's! Oh and watch your credit card bill they will over charge you and act like it's no big deal. Buyer beware you have been truthfully warned. There is so much better right down the street. Don't be fooled by the "old" praises - they have changed. I don't mind paying for good food and good service but you won't get that here. We were a party of 10--with reservations. Our table was ready, and our waiter, Kayon was extremely pleasant and attentive to our needs. We were one of those pain in the neck parties requesting 4 separate checks. Not sure how he kept it all straight, but everything was accurate and the food was amazing--as was the service from Kayon. My husband and I dined at Jonathan's for our anniversary but unfortunately it left a great deal to be desired. On the plus side, it's a lovely atmosphere and the staff is very attentive. The meal however was just okay. I had the filet and it was lukewarm at best and the potatoes were ice cold. My husband had the eggplant parmigiana and he didn't much care for it. The kitchen is quite slow and it took quite awhile for our meals to come. I doubt we'll return. read more

We were seated quickly in the dining room where we had 2 waiters we sat there about 10 mins all they got was a drink order we were ready to order food, we then decided to move to the bar asked the waiter , he moved us we sat there for about 15 mins without the bartender asking us if we needed anything he was more concerned with talking it up with the staff, we were the only ones at the bar. I recently had dinner at Jonathan's restaurant and my experience was deplorable enough to inspire me to write this review. A friend of mine and I were joining her family for dinner before attending a show at the venue upstairs. We were a little late and the rest of the table already had their drinks. The waiter took our drink order and we waited a full 15 minutes while we watched our drinks waiting on the bar and our waiter set empty tables in his section. I finally inquired about the missing drinks and the waiter exclaimed "Oh!" And ran off to fetch them without any explanation or apology. During this wait time, our waiter took our food order. Everyone at the table was on a budget so we all stuck to soups, salads and appetizers, though we requested that everything be delivered at the same time. There were two young children at the table who ordered chicken fingers and we asked that they be served as soon as possible. The waiter took our orders on an iPad. I'm all about technology, but this meant the waiter was focused more on the screen than on his guests. It took another 20 minutes before only half of the table were served, and another 15 minutes and two inquires before the other half was served. Sadly, the two young kids were the last to get their food. After we were all finished, I asked the waiter if there was any bread for the table (he hadn't provided any yet). He brought out some bread and some complimentary gezpacho for the table (my friend, whom had eaten there before explained to me that if the service was correct, we would have had the gezpacho first). My fried calamari was average at best, and the seafood chowder was decent, but certainly not worth $12. From start to finish, this dinner was a waste of time and money. Selected this restaurant based on the dolllar signs and convenience to the Meadowmere Resort. We were looking forward to a fine dining experience. It was just the opposite in every way. The place looked old and outdated, reminiscent of the glass menagerie. It seemed run down and was very dark inside despite the sunny afternoon. It started with our waitress who was extremely nice but certainly had some learning to do in her craft. Although the room was almost empty she was not very attentive. We were expecting a decent table setting, but instead got a dimestore wine glass and diner untensiles. We also were not expecting the 4 finger sized pieces of bread at the bottom of a bread basket. I then read in the front of the menu that there would be a $3 charge if more bread was ordered. Really?? So my $37 ribeye was good. The mash potatoes were tasteless. My wife's $30 scallops were basically a casserole, and also very bland, not worth the pumped up price at all. So, we skipped dessert and cut our losses and chalked it up to a bad experience we would turn into a funny memory. We won't go back. Don't go for the first time. It was awful. BTW, we never complain, never turn turn food back into the kitchen, and --- until now --- have never written a review. Big rip off. read more

We had the stuffed mushrooms and lobster dinner. The food was excellent, as well as the drinks. They advertise as a farm to table restaurant, music venue and a banquet facility. We were hesitant to go here because of this, but we wanted a lobster dinner at a reasonable price so we went. The restaurant was large, great service but the decor was off. I think they are trying to do too much here. If they just committed to one thing they could have a lot more business. Definitely go here for the food and drinks, not the decor. read more

My wife and I both had decent meals. The quality of the food and presentation was very good. The atmosphere was excellent and the landscaping was very detailed. Our only complaint was the waiter. He seemed confused, overwhelmed and couldn't operate his IPad very well. Would recommend this restaurant. We were at the host stand at waited longer than we should have and the chef noticed and got us attention right away. You don't see that very often anymore. Delicious and fresh seafood, unbelievable menu and homey atmosphere. Takes reservations which is rare around here and the menu offerings are perfect, something for everyone and a fabulous seafood selection. We shared the Rhode Island Spicy Calamari, super fresh cooked perfectly and perfect ratio of peppers to calamari. Then for dinner I had the Maine Seafood pasta, I highly recommend this if you are a seafood lover. Clams, 5 shrimp a full lobster tail and claw cooked with linguini garlic and oil with fresh tomatoes tossed in and sprinkled with fresh cheese! This pasta was so good and so hearty. I couldn't eat it all my self, there was so much seafood! Not to mention their homemade whipped blueberry butter they serve with fresh rolls. I'm so glad me and my family decided to make it in tonight because we usually always go to The Steakhouse and were not looking to wait 2 hours to sit down and Jonathan's was perfect.
