My dining experience at the Hurricane Restaurant was quite enjoyable. I would recommend making a reservation in advance for dinner as this seems to be a popular restaurant especially since it is located right in the heart of town shopping. The service was excellent and the portion sizes were large. The lobster chowder was delicious. This could have easily been a main course. Other dishes ordered include the halibut and salmon. Both entrees came with risotto and a vegetable. The restaurant has ample seating. The booths give you a little more privacy. I would definitely stop in for dinner! read more

We tried this restaurant after it was referred to us by the owner of a B&B we were staying at. In short, the food was delicious. The crab cakes were very fresh and outstandingly prepared. The service was extremely friendly and attentive. The Irish Cream and chocolate cake dessert was exceptional! We left the restaurant very full and very happy. The only "negative" was the noise level at dinner. But it was not bad enough to stop us from returning. This is a restaurant that must be tried if you are in the area! read more

Wife's been judging Kennebunkport restaurants by the quality of their dirty martinis, and Hurricane ranked high. We shared the half oysters rock and half clams casino. Both very good, but the clams were the star. Wife's skepticism of the clams disappeared on first bite. Do the clams. Five onion soup was fabulous. Delicious cheesy crust rising high over a steaming bowl of broth and onion goodness. Wife had the side salad with half lobster. The lobster was in easy to eat chunks and a perfect amount for a starter salad. Long wait between starters and main. We were verging on getting hangry when it finally arrived. We'd chosen to share the steak frites as our main. Steak was nicely seasoned and tasty. The one misstep from the kitchen was placing the slices of steak on top of the fries. The shoestring fires were excellent. The thinnest little slivers, perfectly crunchy. But with the steak on top, a lot of the pile of fries sadly dissolved into sad shoestring mush from the drippings. Would gladly order again, but ask that the fries be preserved in their glorious crispness off to the side of the steak. One of the best meals we had in town, and would happily return. Only leaving a star off because of the long wait for mains and the sadly gravy-wilted shoestring fries. read more

Hurricane is very highly rated so my expectations were elevated. Ambiance good - like an English pub which is great for me. 4* Cup of chowder - awful, I live in Maine. Two things - way too salty and glacial. If you put chowder into a cold bulky cup and let it stand for a while it will be frigid when eaten 2* Redemption came in the form of the Cobb Maine Lobster Salad - fantastic - Lobster 3* (add a little heat and melted butter to get 5*), Egg 4*, Avocado 4*, Lettuce 4*, Tomatoes 5*, Bacon 5* (very novel presentation), Dressing 5* Smoked salmon frittata: Salmon 5* Egg and veg 4* Beer: draft and good selection 4* Service - lunch time on mothers day so 3* $100 for a light lunch 4* Overall I would go again and it deserves 4* overall. read more

I waited about 30 minutes for a bar stool on a Thursday night (should have made a reservation), and it was well worth it. I ordered the lamb off the dinner menu--cooked perfectly to medium, still a little pink but hot inside. I added a mashed potatoes (a great choice- no substitutions so an added side) and the green beans made a nice accompaniment. Two crisp pilsners on tap rounded out the meal. Service was friendly, and sitting at the bar with the locals made it even better--I was quickly pulled into conversation, and funny enough, we all had New Jersey ties. This was the third restaurant I tried while working in town, and I only wish I'd come here first. Next time I'm back, The Hurricane will definitely be both my first and last stop. read more

On vacation from AZ for the last week and tried several " highly rated restaurants" and decided to give this a try even though the ratings were less than other restaurants. Hurricane was by far the best of the ones we tried. All the staff were great, the restaurant was inviting/comfortable/ had a great view and the food was excellent. Tyler was especially helpful in giving us a great table and making sure the evening felt celebratory. Our waiter (I wish I remembered his name!) was efficient, attentive, and truly delightful. The highlight of the meal was the seafood stew--it was loaded with fresh seafood, including a generous portion of lobster, shrimp, and scallops. Old school seafood restaurant at its finest. Really enjoyed dinner here. Food was top notch and service was on point. The fresh baked bread is so good. Warm bread and seasoned olive oil is a great way to start. The fresh oysters were amazing. Like eating the ocean. So fresh, briny and tasty all at once. The crab cakes were good, but nothing as special as the rest of the meal. I had the seafood stew. It was delightful. All the clams, muscles, scallops, shrimps and lobster in one dish. Seafood heaven! My wife has the lobster bisque. Lots of lobster and good flavor. The bisque is really thick (think potato soup). We always enjoyed the Hurricane at their Ogunquit location years and years ago, and have had a number of nice meals in Kennebunkport as well. We stopped in today for a light bite and drink in the bar (we were told all tables were booked for the evening). They do offer a happy hour special, with a few drink options at reduced prices, which was nice. We came for the lobster chowder, which did not let us down. Priced at $22, the bowl was large and included a fair amount of lobster chunks. This is a thicker, creamier style of chowder and honestly it filled us up and did not have room for anymore food. Last year, this location had a large covered outdoor dining space, which we did not see this year. The indoor dining room and bar is somewhat dark, but otherwise pleasant. We had a five-star dinner experience at Hurricane Restaurant. Everything was wonderful. The atmosphere is a great blend of classy and beachy! Our server was friendly and attentive. However, the showstopper was the food. My short rib was so tender and delicious and was served with tasty mashed potatoes and peas. My husband's brined pork chop with chorizo-sun tried tomato vinaigrette and fried kale was excellent. Although, my father-in-law's lamb was the winner of the table. It was tender, perfectly seasoned, and served with a cauliflower puree and root veggies. Yum, yum, yum! We also loved the dessert, raspberry-white chocolate bread pudding and chocolate creme brûlée; although, the bread pudding was particularly special. My husband's malbec was also smooth and delicious. After walking around Kennebunkport for hours we were looking for a lunch spot when we came across this place. The menu looked good so we went in and were seated right away. All along I wanted to try the lobster roll so I ordered that with sweet potato fries. I wasn't impressed with the way it tasted, I was expecting it to be better since we were in Maine. I did love the mussels that were cooked in garlic and wine sauce. So flavorful and delicious. The lobster chowder was also very delicious. Really enjoyed it. Hurricane is only one of very few restaurants open in Kennebunkport on a Tuesday in the off season and we couldn't have been happier that it was. We started in the bar area for happy hour which was a great deal - we had four drinks for $20! The staff kindly walked us over to the dining room when we were ready for dinner. The dining room was full (but distanced of course) which was really nice to see on a very cold Tuesday in November on Election Day. To our surprise, on Tuesdays they run a special dinner entree option for $15 called Public Supper - another fantastic deal. They also give you complimentary bread which was soft and gooey and gone immediately. For starters we shared the Lobster Chowder (fantastic). For entrees I ordered the entree special which was a stuffed pork loin with stuffing and mashed potatoes (yummm) and my fiancé had the Baked Stuffed Lobster (MKT - $60) and he was in absolute heaven. Probably my favorite! I've been coming here for years and only once was I a tiny bit disappointed. The food is consistently good. Last night I ordered the baked stuffed lobster. I've never ordered it before because at some places the lobster can be dry. Not at Hurricane! It was moist and delicious . The scallops were so tender and tasty. FYI they have added some tables since the pandemic ended so it can be a bit noisy and tight to navigate. Still , Hurricane remains a real winner for this local! read more

Seated outside table by the water ( at the back of the restaurant) don't forget to bring sunnies. Water glass always refilled from the moment we arrived till when we left. Services good, server never pushed us to order ( because we are still waiting for friends at that time). Selection of the food and beverages are decent. Really fresh seafood. I got the crab cakes, seafood tower (which includes oysters, clams, shrimp, lobster), extra oysters (x4), white wine, and blueberry cobbler. I had never had raw clam before and it was definitely a stronger flavor than raw oyster but because it was so fresh I was able to eat them with ease. The crab cakes actually had chunks of crab in it (love!). There was no "seafood" smell to the seafood and they were a delight to eat. Server did a good job with her wine rec, as it paired well with what I ate. Blueberry cobbler had a decent balance between sweet and tart. The standouts were the oysters and lobster for me. The complimentary baguette was warm and crusty, went well with olive oil and excellent with the whipped butter. Started with the lobster chowder which was perfect - creamy, flavorful, lots of potatoes and big pieces of lobster. The Hurricane house salad had good flavor with fried shallots and pistachios, slightly over dressed. The mussels were perfect also, I coulda slurped up the broth. Hubby enjoyed the crab cakes, I thought they had a tiny too much breading. The foie gras was smaller than than usual and a tad salty but went well with the grapes! Upon arriving our reserved table, it was in a room where we couldn't hear each other speak because it was soo loud. The water girl stated "your server will be with you shortly, she just had a lot of other tables seated". I said "Excuse me" and the water girl said "your sever will be with you shortly". It took an hour for us to receive our meal. However our server had dropped a plate for the table next to us, where cocktail sauce got on my husband's calf's, shorts and stained my dress". There was shattered glass underneath our feet, no one apologized. When we received our food my tiny wedge salad was wilted. When I showed the waitress, she said "that's because of the kids working in the kitchen". When my husband bit into his lamb chop, it was tough and cold.
