My whole family was in Charleston for a big vacation. After a day of shopping and site-seeing, we stopped in here for lunch. At 1:00pm, the place was dead. Two employees were holding down the fort. The first thing we noticed was the trash can was filled to overflowing. But we were willing to chalk it up to the lunch rush having just ended. Six of us ordered subs, most of which were cold, and it took almost 30 minutes for us to START getting our food. The food itself was fine. I've had better but I've had far worse. We did our best to throw our trash away, and left. This is not where the story ends. Within half an hour, two of us started feeling nauseous and uncomfortable. We immediately went back to our hotel and spent the remainder of the evening with stomach cramps and other side-effects of what I can only think of as mild food poisoning or something similar. We both had Swiss cheese on our sandwiches. We don't have John Smith Subs near us where we live, and frankly, we won't be coming back regardless. read more

With us being such a new place (just opened last week) I know it's only going to get better Update: it's been a month and have nothing but good things to say! Honestly, just don't do it. I can make a sandwich better then what I received. I ordered a 12" sub with ham, cheese and mayo. What I got was a sub with half Mayo on one side and a whole lot of onions on both. I never even asked for onions I said Mayo only which was on my ticket. It also took them 30 minutes to make it and there was only myself and one other couple who came in 20 minutes after I did. The bread is also very thick but not the good thick it's dry and crumbly. The men working behind the counter were having a party, being loud, and dropping the F-Bomb, with other foul language. About 3/4 of the tables were dirty, and I never saw one single one being wiped off, much less sanitized. My stomach had a reaction to the food for the second time. I went there once before and had the same trouble. The drink cups lids don't fit, and the cups and straws are so cheap and flimsy, they almost disintegrate. Great service but unfortunately I was so disappointed by my meal. I went not long after they opened. I thought "The Bomb" sounded delicious but I ended up being very disappointed with it. Bread was cold, untoasted and did not taste fresh. None of the toppings on the sandwich were fresh. Tasted like they had been cooked a day before and just scrambled together quickly on the grill and thrown on the sandwich. My sandwich had no mayo and be forewarned that it does Not come with lettuce, tomato or anything outside of the hot toppings. I was really disappointed. Again, the people who work there are professional, friendly and make visiting a treat but the food is seriously lacking. This is honestly the worst!! Came in to order 2 kids meals. There were 2 teenage boys at the counter. They were very unprofessional and when the total was 4$ more than on the menu behind them, they said they dont know why, and gave me 10% off which was still over the price. When i asked how come total is more then on the menu one of them said "i don't know, maybe the board is wrong, or maybe its taxes, but i already gave you 10% off. I said yes, thank you but the menu has a different pricing than what you giving me. Their attitude was "we dnt care" when i asked for a manager they said he wasn't there. I have visited Jon Smith Subs a few times now. I have been so happy with my sandwiches each time. Their steak bomb is so good! I loved how flavorful and tender the steak was. Their tuna sub was also delicious. All white meat tuna. The owner, Jen, was there and so nice and friendly. My child can be a little indecisive, and she was so helpful with her. My daughter got the maple chicken sandwich, and it is now her favorite sandwich. I look forward to making this my go to sub shop when we are out shopping, or grab and go when we are headed to the beach for the day. The staff has been so friendly and nice! Food is mediocre. Owner Jen is aggressive and rude. I saw her in the kitchen and assumed she was a manager. She was demeaning to staff and shouted out orders to them constantly while everyone around her worked quietly. I placed an order and sat to complete some legal documents while I waited for my food. Jen came into the dining room to bus an order and called out a female name. No one responded. I didn't respond or look up from my work bc this was not my name or even close to my name. She came over to my table, bent down to look in my face and said "TRISH?!" loudly. She startled me and I said "I'm not trish!" She backed up and proceeded to stare me down for a solid 20 seconds. The whole store was silent watching her spectacle. She eventually found Trish, and announced loudly to me "Sorry I offended you!" And walked back into the kitchen shaking her head. Everyone in the dining was joking about her aggression after she went back in the kitchen. I ordered 2 12in subs to take home for my wife and I . A beef bacon bbq and a beef and a beef and mushroom. Gotta say we both thoroughly enjoyed both our sandwiches! Both sandwiches loaded with meat.... very juicy and lots of flavor . Just the right about if bbq in mine without it overwhelming and being a sloppy wet mess that can sometimes happen. Just enough bacon too... My wife's sandy has just the right about of mushrooms. Very happy with our first visit! My husband & I walked into the store for the first time at towne center. As we were reading the menu the twins who were working the register started loudly whispering jokes about our outfits, "oh look at the cute couple matching!" And then giggling to each other. As we were still looking at the menu, one proceeded to ask us if we were ready multiple times within 10-15 seconds of each other and then giggling. One coworker even told them to stop. When he asked again less then 10 seconds after the last time, we told him he was being rude. They then proceeded to pretend they could not hear what we were saying and giggling. When we told the twins we were leaving one kept saying "What? I can't hear you" again. They giggled as we exited. Those two teen boys were extremely rude and condescending with their tones. The audacity to make fun of another human being in front of them and then pretending it did not happen is disgusting. They know what they were doing by asking us multiple times if we were ready in under a minute. It was obvious that they were trying bother us. When we addressed their behavior they acted like it was all a big joke. I have never had such an unprofessional experience in a restaurant in my life. read more
