After visiting a random Yelp find The Moaning Caverns, we ended up here at another Yelp find. This one was a very tasty one! :) There were so many yummy flavors, but I decided to go with a scoop of The Big Easy and something toffee crunch. (Can't remember the name, lol) I also got it in a waffle cone. The lady helping us was friendly and nice. There were a couple tables and chairs outside in front of the shop. I don't remember if there were chairs inside or not. We all loved our ice creams because they were refreshing and delicious! Again, another shop in Murphy's town that offered amazing customer service. So, let me just say that I came in with a group of girls which consisted of my friend who was the bride and her bridesmaids. We had just finished wine tasting and for some strange reason we thought it was a great idea to get ice cream. I actually couldn't eat very much ice cream and the girl that was working the counter was sweet enough to give me a tiny little kids cup and like half a scoop. Great flavors and service. The vibe is very nice and the staff have positive energy, are patient, and work fast. You can tell that their ice cream is made with natural ingredients. I recommend the Salty River of Gold (salted caramel) and Island Paradise (coconut). Customer service is also very good. If you don't like the flavor you got, they re-scoop it for free! I love how along with a description of the flavor, there is a quick summary of basically what the flavor is so you know exactly what you'll be tasting. Stopped in Murphys on the way up to Lake Alpine for the weekend. They advertise they are homemade artisan ice cream. Most artisan ice cream shops I have frequented offer you a taste of the flavor. This one doesn't. I opted for a summer peach flavor and a mint chip flavor. It was $9 for a 2-scoop cup. The mint was ok. I didn't care for the peach and ended up throwing it away. It didn't taste fresh to me like other artisan ice cream I have had. My husband got a chocolate flavor that had Ghirardelli chocolate in it, and he was happy with his. My husband likes the heavier creamier, sweeter stuff, so if that's you you may be happy here. For me, I prefer a lighter fresher taste. And for the price it wasn't worth it for me. On the positive, even though they didn't allow us tastes, they were very welcoming to our dog and gave him a pup cup, so props for that! read more

This is a great spot in downtown Murphy's, The hours are very short and you can't get dessert after dinner which is a shame. It is true you can't taste anything which does turn people off and some walk out due to the very high price. 1 scoop is equal to an entire quart at B&R or the Grocery store but it is one of the best ice creams. If you like rich, thick and ultra creamy then this place is for you. If you complain about prices just suck it up buttercup! It's going to cost two people well over a Hamilton but the satisfaction is worth it. A double scoop is the value, skip the child's/kid scoop. For the owners you should be open until 8pm on Thur/Fri/Sat. This is peak downtown time and you close at 6pm which makes no sense especially on a Fri/Sat night is any two nights would be selected. We live JoMa's and always take our friends there. Everyone has loved the ice cream. As to price, welcome to the California labor and rent market. People need to make money not break even. It would have been nice if they allowed tasting samples because one of my kids ended up not liking her ice cream flavor choice. This place is busy but they keep the line moving quickly and orders are up before you know it. Tried the pineapple coconut sorbet and it was perfection. The flavors really came through, it wasn't overly sweet and there was a nice texture. They have some basic flavors as well as a mix of unique choices that included about 5 vegan options. Minimal seating inside and a few tables out front. This is more of a "take it and walk down the street with it" type of spot. There's no question is very good ice cream, with a handful of the flavors bordering on great. But between the borderline laughable price point and the strict no sampling policy, there's something a bit joyless about the whole experience. For most of us, going with family for ice cream in a small town is 80% about the experience, and only 20% about whether the ice cream is a B+ or an A- or whatever. I get that places had to dial-back samples during COVID, but that excuse is certainly stale. We're not asking for some Roman Orgy of taste testing... but when you're charging kids $7 for a "baby scoop," at least loosen up. Ice cream shouldn't feel stuffy, but alas... here we are. read more

Scrolling through some old vacation pictures and came across my ice cream cone from JoMa's from earlier this summer...safe to say my moth started watering and stomach started growling. This is seriously some of the best ice cream I've had! Not sure if it was because it was 95° + degrees out, it was a nice break from all the wine tasting, or if it was just that good, but it was REALLY good. If you're in Murphy's, no matter how cold it is, you have to stop at JoMa's! It is completely worth the wait on a hot day and some cold lips on a snowy day. JoMa's is a solid ice cream shop!! They are consistently good with their flavors, and I have always enjoyed any of their flavors that include chocolate in some way, shape, or form. Service moves really quickly!! It isn't extraordinary, but they are normally pretty slammed (especially during this summer heat), so it makes sense that they may not have the time to really get to engage with each customer. This is a great ice cream shop, so good we went twice in three days! The tangerine and blackberry flavors were mild, though the peach ice cream that I got was delightfully peachy. The mint was refreshing and had big chunks of chocolate. The kids loved the cookies and cream flavor, too. The cones are fresh and the ice cream itself doesn't leave behind a fat-coated taste. They also have vegan options. There are two cafe tables outside, or a park with shade trees, benches, and a creek are just a block down. I was a bit surprised by the cost of the ice cream for the area, but I do prefer good quality ice cream at tourist prices than lower quality ice cream at cheaper prices. Main Street Murpheys has changed dramatically since I was a kid. A great street to promenade, with a good variety of shops and food. This shop has wonderful ice cream with a silky mouth feel. Flavors are creative and yummy. My personal fave was the Salted Caramel... delish! A must do! read more
