Great little stop in and get some ice cream while visiting Columbia state park. Service was ok. Prompt on helping us but both younger adults not the friendliest guys. One guy didn't talk at all, and the other one helping us was so tired he look like he was gonna fall asleep. lol. So service could be a little better. Nice on the flavors , not a huge amount but for a stage theater lobby, it's decent and enough flavors for most ppl to pick from. You have to love the building and keeping everything in the west / gold rush era. Most the shops staff and even the live music here and there are dressed up. It's very cool. This ice cream parlor is literally the lobby for the Fallon House Theater where the Sierra Reparatory Theater present both classic and modern plays and musicals. The parlor is busiest pre/post show and during intermission but is open for everyone throughout the day. They also have a variety of specialty bottled sodas. read more

The store also has old time candy and other delicious treats. They have inside seating as well. There is plenty of safe and free parking in several lots as well as street parking. Gotta love this spot. I'm thankful there's ice cream in this little tourist spot in Columbia. It's always the perfect temp inside - freezing! It's a lovely escape from the summer heat. I love taking my family there when they visit from the Bay Area. They offer about 20 different flavors of ice cream, sundaes, floats, malts, etc. There was only one guy working on a holiday weekend and I felt bad for him, but he handled the busy-ness very well. There was a line to the door, but he kept it moving as fast as he could all by himself! Management should staff up on holiday weekends, because the poor guy was scooping non-stop! This was one of my favorite little places in Columbia. They have old fashioned ice cream sodas, like with flavored soda water. My grandmav used to rave about real "chocolate sodas" and this place has them. It's also one of the few places in town that stays open late, until 7pm. Old town ice cream parlor located inside the Columbia State Park, a perfect treat on those warm sunny days when visiting here. Very old school parlor that serves ice cream and sundaes! The ice cream is pretty good here and it comes from San Luis Obispo, or Santa Barbara, I forgot which one, but it was listed in the store. I gave this classic old ice cream parlor 5 stars because while my wife was napping in our awesome Fallon Hotel room, I waited patiently to go downstairs and get a mint & chip ice cream cone. The Fallon Ice Cream Parlor is literally 10 feet next door to the hotel. My wife woke up and we headed downstairs and walked outside. To my shocking eyes, the employee was carrying the sign inside and said that they just closed. I thought about dropping to my knees and begging him to serve one last ice cream cone for the day. Thank God I did not have to. He offered to allow us inside where I got the most delicious mint & chip ice cream cone of the day. The employees throughout Columbia State Historical Park are second to none. They really do make you feel like family. read more

This place was very dissapointing. Environment was blah, and stuffy as if they didn't run the AC or open windows. Service is slow, and any service you do get you'll also get the feeling that their customers are annoying. For example, my recent experience; my sister asked for a sundae in a waffle cone...they refused to make a sundae in a waffle cone. I asked for two scoop sundae (aka: Any day Sundae on their menu board) they didn't have cups big enough to make a two scoop sundae??? So next, after my son's ice cream cone broke causing his scoop of ice cream to splatter all over the ground, I took it back in and told them that the cup of the cones are weak around the stem and broke clean off. The girl there just stared at me and my crying 2 year old and said " I don't understand what you want me to do about it." I kindly asked her to replace it. She then asked the other guy working there if he would replace it, he slammed his palm on his leg and huffed, "of course..." He did give my son a new one. But I couldn't help but feel like we were an inconvenience. What a shame to end our nice family day in such a let down. Save your money, and go to the legit parlor up the street. We had black raspberry chip and a double scoop of Dutch Chocolate on waffle cones about 15 minutes before the play. Delicious. The service was pretty fast and it was quite busy but they were able to serve us with plenty of time for curtain call. We will do this again. read more
