First time trying Jolly's. Haven't lived in the area all that long but heard it's a staple around here. The individuals working were very friendly and pleasant to deal with. Tried the footlong, the double cheeseburger, and loaded fries. Footlong and cheeseburger were my favorite. Fries were ok just would have liked a bit crispier with all the stuff on top. Kind of ended up being a bit soft. Maybe another minute in the fryer. As for the place itself it's like a retro car side drive in which it should since been around for so long. Could it use some new paint. Of course but it Doesn't need the flare or newness. Definitely looked like did a good business since vehicles kept coming and going while we were there. Quick service, good food, and a laid back atmosphere. We enjoyed the root beer and chili dogs. My dad said the chili was just as good as he remembered it. Also, we didn't have to wait for a spot on a Saturday evening. There aren't too many nostalgic drive-ins left in the area. We will definitely be back! read more

So I had the worst day ever at work and on the way home seen Jollys open and know I love them so went go cheer myself up. We'll it was not meant to be I got burned onion rings and burger was rubber and bun was old. Hardly any chili and early cheese it made the end worse. The whole order was in the trash cause my onion rings was so burned my 14 year old son wouldn't touch them. I don't reccomend nights there but most day shift it's been good. I don't know but I reccomend checking your food cause this was the worst experience I have had at this place. read more

We're from out of state but were here for a convention. Saw this place just by driving around and decided to drop in on a Saturday night at dinner time - it wasn't packed but there were plenty of people We ordered 2 foot longs and a root beer and the carhop brought it out in 3 minutes tops! The dogs were really good and pricing was amazing! I love the fact that their house crafted root beer was served in a thick cold glass mug! So simple, and so tasty. When I was a kid, we went to the A&W Root beer Stand and got root beer floats in frosty cold glass mugs. They were delicious! The root beer at Jolly's comes in a frosty glass mug and it is delicious. But whatever you do, DO NOT ask to get a root beer float in a frosty glass mug at Jolly's. Both Noah the Mgr. and Timmy the General Manager MIGHT let you order a root beer float but they will NEVER take the ice cream and put it in a frosty glass mug bc the ice cream comes in styrofoam cups. Now, if you ask them ok, well instead of pouring the root beer in the Styrofoam cups can you just pour it in a frosty glass mug and just give me the ice cream in the Styrofoam cup and I'll put it in the root beer myself YOU ARE ASKING FOR TROUBLE! You will be told that they will do it JUST THIS ONCE but NEVER AGAIN! I told them why is it such a big deal to just pour the root beer in a frosty mug you sell them that way all day and it's a picture on the menu! I was told bc it interrupts their cleaning schedule! Spent over 35 dollars at Jollys and got home and every footlong was inedible. The hot dog itself is so much smaller but that's been that way for a while, but the chili was almost nonexistent, it's literally like they use a brush or just wipe the ladle on the bread. The cheese was a good amount but with so little chili it just turned into a big bread ball in your mouth. I was so disappointed. I live in Fairfield and drive to the Eastside Jolly's as a treat. Nostalgia at it's best. This place is a complete throwback to another era, for sure. We visited on Saturday, Aug. 14. This is a drive-in restaurant, where you're encouraged to stay in your car, order through the speaker in the menu board and a car hop brings out your food on a tray that hangs from your window. There are also three picnic tables at this location if you prefer to eat outdoors. For me, the interest in this place is that it hasn't been remodeled into a trendy spot. It look like it has never been updated, but that is it's charm. We ordered inside and ate on one of the picnic tables, the only one without an umbrella. We did have to ask for some wet towels to clean the table because it was a bit (i.e., very) dirty, however, it is an outside table that is exposed to the elements, including birds. We had a nice visit. The staff were exceptionally pleasant and nice. On a fun note, I asked if the chili on the chili dog was Cincinnati-style or good chili and the employee at the counter said, "neither." For those interested, it's not Cincinnati-style chili, and it is actually good on hot dogs. I had the foot long with chili cheese and onions and it was decent for the price. The hubby had a hamburger, which I ordered without chili, but it just came out plain (it was supposed to have the other toppings, but they just sent out a plain burger). He did not enjoy the burger - at all. We also got onion rings, which are real rings of onions! I liked them, the hubby did not. We took two friends who said they enjoyed the visit. One got a root beer float and loved the root beer. The other friend got a foot long chili dog, too and she enjoyed it. Jolly's has a very special place in my heart! My first job in high school was as a car-hop for this fine establishment! So many fond summer memories.... It's a drive in restaurant with car hops and adorable little ordering menu's. They are known for their footlong chili dogs and root beer (which is made in-house, at this location only). At one time, Jolly's was an A&W root beer stand. It was purchased by the Jollivette family decades ago. At one time, there were 3 locations: this one on Rt. 4 (owned by Greg Jollivette), one one the Westside of Hamilton (owned by Mike Jollivette - still open), and a former location in Fairfield (was owned by Vince Jollivette, but was torn down and sold to Taco Bell - how sad!). The menu has remained the same, for the most part, for decades. Now, for the good stuff....their food! The footlong chili dogs (also available in standard wiener length) are phenomenal. The chili they use is delicious, yet nothing fancy. The cheese is very good too, and thankfully, they usually load your dog down with that golden deliciousness. They have rootbeer floats, which are a tasty sweet treat in the summer. Their onion rings are very good and their french fries are decent. I've never tried their chili burgers, but my husband has and likes them. You can also purchase gallons and half gallons of their famous rootbeer to take home. They offer fresh popped popcorn and small bags of chips, too. The apple fritters are also a hidden gem here. They are fantastic! Your food is delivered to your car by a car hop. They work for tips, so please give them a few bucks as these girls work very hard during the summer. This place tends to get packed during the spring and summer, especially on Saturday around lunch time. The prices are very reasonable! They do have one small booth inside, as well. Jollys is my all time favorite spot to eat on a cool summer evening. There are two locations left. Part of going to Jollys is the memories for me. When I was little we would always go for some footlongs and rootbeer at the brookwood location and then head to the holiday drive inn for a movie. There is something about the cheese on the footlong. It is like shredded velveeta it is so soft and creamy. The chili reminds me of a type of canned chili you would get to make your own chili dogs at home. Then add some onions and mustard. Soooo tasty. Jollys opens around march every year and closes in the winter. It is kind of like sonic where you drive up place your order by pushing the little button on the speaker. The girls bring you your food on a tray that hooks on to the window. When you are done flip the little switch and they will come back out for the tray. Now let me talk about the root beer. Oh my goodness the root beer. If you know someone who likes rootbeer and has never been to Jollys you must take them. They bring it to you in this glass frosted mug and it is home made. We always get a gallon to take home with us. When I was little they had small kiddie size glass mugs to. I always thought I was so fancy holding my little mug of root beer. I'm not sure if they still have kiddie mugs anymore. Jollys is worth a trip just for the rootbeer. This old, family like, not so quick, service dinner is a historic piece of Hamilton and it's people. The sonic type set up is interesting but the root beer and burgers hit the spot, but only if they could be made faster! The kitchen and or Range may need to be updated to be able to fling out wild good burgers at sonic speeds! The fries need more seasoning, they are a good paring for the tasty burger but would be good with a seasoning salt or some more sodium! I'm nite picking!! The outside needs a pressure wash! THIS LOCATION IS NOT CLOSED!!!!!!!! The location off of Nilles in Fairfield closed, but not this one.. This place will always have a spot reserved in my heart. I remember the first warm days of spring as a little girl. I'd run into my mom's room and ask her if Jolly's was open yet every year. She'd grab her car keys and we would head down to our local Jolly's for the first time that season. When we pulled up under the huge awning, we would drive to the lit up menu box. When we were ready to order we'd flip up the silver switch alerting the wait staff inside. Mom knew how much I loved flipping the switch, so she'd let me climb in her lap and stick my little kid arm out the window for that silver lever. Once she'd told the waitress our order, we'd wait. She'd turn the radio on and we'd sing our hearts out waiting for our food. It never took long and our waitress would stroll out with a silver try containing our food, and the best part.. THE ROOT BEER!!! Jolly's makes the best homemade root beer that I've ever had. Hands down, little kid hands and my now adult but not much bigger hands.. seriously. Well she'd bring us the food, and then I'd see that small, my size mug glistening in the summer sun. My root beer would sway gently inside and I would wait in anticipation hoping none of those little brown droplets would spill over. That stuff was too good to miss out on even one drop. They would give us a million napkins, mom would roll up her window a few inches, and they would set the try to hang on the window. We would select each item carefully off the tray. Eat our delicious first of spring lunch and amazingly awesome root beer, and then we'd place it all on the tray again. I was usually too full to care about flipping the switch up the second time, so my mom would do it for us. The girl would come back out, and grab our tray. Mom would tip her and then we'd head off to do some more fun stuff for the day. Why only 4 stars then with such great memories? Well, honestly I think Jolly's is more about the novelty. It's good, but it's not the best hot dog I've ever had. But even with my older taste buds, I still can't pass up a good Large mug of their root beer. The service is the same, which rocks. The only other complaint is that they aren't open all year. Oh well perhaps that's part of the fun of Jolly's. We wait in anticipation all year for it to reopen. read more
