Yelp is a very biased review website as my reviews have been removed. The work that Steve Johnson "completed." on my house are failing miserably. Paint is chipping and bubbling up. Screws protruding through the gates, nails and wood fibers on the wood awning, paint spills and drips on windows, floors and patio. Steve Johnson isn't good with fine detailing and is a sloppy worker. He will leave a mess when he's "finished" the job. YELP MUST BE RUN BY CLOWNS! Mr. Johnson came highly recommended from the Woods Ace Hardware store in Redondo. When I called to give him a job, he seemed to be more verbal and articulate than most; nevertheless, was willing to come out for the job. During the interim I called him to make a suggestion that might have been to his business benefit, which he was not open to. I also wanted to add on a minor job to the list; however, Johnson develops a suspicious attitude if you call him outside the appointment. He offered a different solution than what I had in mind. Apparently that also alienated him because he immediately took offense, accusing me of something sinister and saying my vibrations were bad. This man is likely competent; just don't call him to add-on jobs, offer business referrals or have any solutions of your own. He over-reacts! read more

I worked with Steve on "Jeff H.'s" house last year with sanding, painting, and installation. This house was in such bad shape it was near condemned. It took weeks of work scraping the paint which was older than me, and I'm 25 years old. Jeff the owner would be outside all day talking to us about the weather, Obama, or griping about his wife when we just wanted to work. There were termites falling out of the sides of the house like confetti and there was all types of mold growing in the bathroom. It was a nightmare. Like something you see on hoarders. This was an incredibly tough job. I got upset when I read the post Jeff wrote because of how incredibly happy he was when we finished the job. Some people are never satisfied I suppose. A couple things Jeff left out. Steve bought the owners a brand new garage and installed it absolutely FREE. He built them a beautiful custom fence that was high enough to give the couple privacy, when the expectation was to just paint it. I worked on this job for 2-3 weeks and Steve never complained and went above and beyond the expectations of the owners. Why they aren't happy now is news to me and if we had any idea they were upset before finishing the job we would have stayed to make it right, and that's the truth. read more

I used Steve to install a few windows in our house. He also installed some CO2 sensors in each room. He did what he quoted and was punctual and friendly. It should be noted that he does wear hearing device so he communicates better with text messages then on the phone. Some weeks he is very busy and cannot work while other weeks he is able to do the job right then and there. Pricing is affordable. Make sure you're clear about the scope of work because some jobs require a contractor or electrician which I'm sure he knows people. After calling a number of other handyman services with no luck, I came across Johnson Handyman Services and I'm so glad I did. I reached Steve on the first call, described the work I needed to have done, and Steve quoted me a price and confirmed his availability before we hung up. Steve ended up being available sooner than I expected and he texted me to let me know that he was on his way. I had two shower support bars and one exterior wall handle installed and the work was done quickly and correctly. I should also say that the exterior wall handle was not part of our original discussion; this was added after Steve showed up, but Steve not only agreed to do the work for what was a very reasonable increase to the original price quote, but he even went to Home Depot to purchase the additional handle. I have used Steve to repair the home I bought to live in which was a *fixer upper* he finished out the work shop between the garage and house, this has become my office. I recently had Steve Johnson and his daughter remodel my laundry room and drywall parts of a bedroom and hallway. The new tiled floor and molding, the new drywalled textured ceilings and walls, new electrical sockets and a new faucet with plumbing repairs are excellent. It looks like a new home!!!
