When you serve rotten food to a customer, the customer drives back to your restaurant to show you they've been served rotten food, then you do absolutely nothing to make it right, you lose your customers. Never a bad option or meal from John's. Online ordering is easy, and they cater for work events. Their pizza (IMHO) is not greasy and the sauce is perfectly spiced. Updated review; Unfortunately my past experiences were just that. In the past. I Ordered a pan pizza and cheesy bread sticks. Sounded like a nice lazy Saturday summer lunch!! But Upon opening the box of bread sticks they were dark brown and as hard as a rock. Clearly they had cooked before and reheated in the oven. They weren't even edible. The taste was as if the oven hadn't been properly cleaned in a very long time. When opening the pizza the toppings were a mess and the crust was barley even cooked. A mess of water was underneath the pizza! I could only have one piece due to it tasting like a dirty oven and they amount of greasy water. The mushrooms tasted like they came from a can and the sausage was hard on the top. Not sure how this pizza went so wrong.... I love pizza and can usually handle a little grease but this was crazy. I won't be ordering here again. Which is a bummer since it's a local restaurant and close to my house. Seriously.... What a dang bummer!!! I hate leaving negative reviews. John's Pizza Cafe is the best pizza, pasta, sandwiches in town! We've been coming here for years and it's literally the best. In particular their John's regular crust pizza is the stand out here - it's absolutely scrumptious. We had someone from Minneapolis over for dinner months ago and we got John's Pizza - they are still raving about it and talking about how they want it next time they come over! But everything they make is on point. Their huge well made calzones are a go-to when my partner wants their pasta instead of pizza. They make a really good Dill dip, and lately I've been hooked on their Chicadilly sandwich. (Their house made chips are delicious, fries are equally good) Service is great that I've encountered, although we almost always order delivery online through their website. Delivery is always lightening quick and drivers are friendly. Order here, it'll be a new favorite! read more

What can I say, John's Pizza Cafe is by far one of the best in the Twin Cities, possibly even anywhere. Their selection of toppings alone is amazing, I mean, you can get just about anything you could want, and it's always delicious, fresh, and cooked to perfection. The portions are exceptionally generous! I have actually never dined in at the new location (across the intersection from the old location), despite ordering for delivery or pick-up for many, many years. The staff has always been friendly, charming, and never expressed impatience as I dallied over what ingredients I wanted in any of my orders. Their pizzas are really amazing, but I am seriously in love with their Stromboli and my fiance is a big fan of the Calzone. My go to pizza/burger joint with my kids. Their pizzas are always good and cheesy, usually quick service and polite staff. My favorite burger here is the Tennessee BBQ burger. It's big and can get sloppy so I normally cut it in half. Most of the time, I end up eating only half or a bit more since we usually order other food such as their applewood bacon mac and cheese which is super cheesy and creamy. This is the second time having food from Johns Pizza Cafe. The first time, we had a pizza delivered, and it was pretty decent pie. My fiancee didn't like it at all, but I didn't think it was bad at all, so I thought that I'd give it another shot. This time, I decided to go into the establishment. On the outside, it looks like a standard restaurant with an outdoor patio. The inside is fairly small. This probably explains a lack of host and waitresses/waiters. You order everything up front. I ordered the Bacon Bleu Burger, and thought I could get fries with that, but I was wrong! Apparently, they don't serve fries here. They. Do. Not. Serve. Fries. Shocked, I decided to go with the tater tots for a dollar extra. In addition, when I order a burger, I'm usually asked how I like it cooked. They didn't ask me that. Not necessarily a big deal, it's just something I'm used to. I didn't wait long for my food, which is nice. However, I didn't get many tater tots. I paid $13.00 for my food, and got a handful of tots. The burger was OK at best. Personally, the food was not worth the price that I paid for it. For $13.00, I'd get a lot more at Gabes, or even Billy's. read more

Ate dinner here tonight. Looks like a bar from the outside but it wasn't. You order at the counter- then someone brings your food out to you at a table of your choosing. Buffalo wings were good- not great. Sausage lasagna and chicken Alfredo pasta were awesome! Lots of sauce on both- yum! And the chicken Alfredo was browned just a little on top. We got an all meat and works pizza. Both were really good! The sausage was big chunks- loved that.The onions were sautéed which my husband said were ok- but he prefers raw. We loved the hand tossed crust! The girl who brought out our food was super helpful and checked in with us a couple times which we thought was very nice. Retracting my good review. Just paid $30 for two orders of pasta. Asked for the baked chicken Alfredo with NO CHICKEN (sub broccoli +--- we are vegetarian )...the girl who ALWAYS answers used to be very pleasant but now apparently hates her job, explained that they could not sub broccoli in the dish and that I would need to pay FULL PRICE PLUS an additional $1.50 for the broccoli!.. What a scam and the girl on the phone must be miserable ....after being a loyal customer for years and having to deal with 1) the phone girls terrible attitude and 2) 4-5 consecutive instances of problems with my order -- I'm throwing the John's menu in the trash! Good riddance! Love john's! We order delivery pretty frequently and have never had a wrong order, they have never forgotten anything, and the food is great. The delivery drivers are sweet and efficient kids. The telephone operators were professional and well trained. We will continue ordering from here for as long as we live in the neighborhood!! read more

Ordered from here the other day to say we were we disappointed is an understatement. We ordered the da works along with the breadsticks. Upon arrival the delivery driver arrived scowling I greeted him kindly without even getting a Hi or hello in return after handing me our order I told him to have a nice day of which his reply was "yeah". We were pretty hungry and excited for pizza however that excitement was crushed when we opened the breadsticks and saw they were all burnt and hard as a rock so we moved onto the pizza with a giant hope the mistake would stop with the breadsticks. After opening the pizza box all looked well but first looks can be deceiving after serving out slices we realized the pizza was covered in grease. The toppings on top were sloppy and were not fresh ( the peppers were so dried they tasted freeze dried and the mushrooms were straight out of a can). Neither of us could eat more than a half a slice before the pizza made its way where it belonged (in the trash). Pretty unhappy with this experience and definitely not happy with the money that was wasted not to mention our pizza excitement was literally burnt to a crisp. Emailed the restaurant requesting a refund and explaining the situation and still have not got a response and probably never will. We will never again order from Johns Pizza cafe again sad to see a local favorite shell out such poor quality food and service. read more

Don't get me wrong. The pizza here is amazing. But the problem is you have to deal with their employees to get it. We ordered a pizza and a salad the other night for delivery. Delivery guy forgot the salad. No big deal, unless he begs you not to make him go back and get it. But we did. Then, as he drives away, we open our pizza to figure out it is wrong. Not just a little wrong. But all ingredients are incorrect. Then we look at the receipt. It wasn't even our pizza. So we call them, and they sound really annoyed. They blame the weather. They blame the number of orders. They do everything but apologize for the mistake. The woman on the phone literally told my wife that she would need to ask the owner's wife for permission to void our order. I love their pizza. I mean, I crave the stuff. But the way they treat customers, it will be a long time until I return. read more

No wonder you will consistently Saint Paul's finest squad cars parked for lunch at this place. We ordered for delivery, and the person who answered was very friendly and got the order right. I almost flying hugged the driver when he came to the door, so in the spirit of full disclosure, we were very hungry. They have a terrific thin crust that is crispy and flaky -- PLUS they offer fresh garlic as a topping. I haven't tried their other fare (sandwiches, etc.) but I would be likely to. I would have to try other things to give them a mere 4 stars. It's such an attractive place and very clean and comfortable from the seating to the temperature of the room. We got a sausage pizza, which was no better or worse than other places. A huge stromboli with pepperoni. I've only ever had it at Cosetta's and that's where I prefer it. They do their own desserts. I was tempted by the cheesecake, but they make it a very strong lemon flavor, and the bottom crust is extremely sweet and gooey. They have a separate room that could be used for parties. A handy well placed soda fountain, adds to the convenient layout of the place. The patio looks really nice and I could see enjoying it sometime. At the counter they also have fresh homemade hoagie rolls for sale. I've been putting off coming here for too long. read more

Quick and delicious! We stopped in for our first John's Pizza Cafe experience on a recent Wednesday night. The Chinese Firecracker Pizza was great! We ordered a medium for the 2 of us and it was perfect. It only took between 10 and 15 minutes for the order to arrive. Chinese Firecracker is pepperoni, pineapple, and banana peppers. I'm not a pepperoni fan, so I 'changed' it to Canadian bacon instead and it was good! I say 'changed' it because when I inquired as to whether I can substitute Canadian bacon for pepperoni, I was informed I can request the pepperoni to be held and the Canadian bacon to be added. That's a substitution in my eyes but the snappy woman behind the counter told me I can change, I can't substitute. She seemed to be bothered we were looking at the menu trying to decide. I guess I would go here for the food, but certainly not friendly service or good atmosphere. Bill was $18 or so for the pizza and a fountain DC. read more

Finally took out a second mortgage and could afford a John's delivery. Actually, I've had John's a few times, mostly before they moved across the street. Since, they've screwed up an order and once delivered to my house when I ordered to pick up. Value is important when spending money on food. This is a place in which it costs $27 for a 14" pizza and bread side (that apparently comes without a cup of marinara sauce). So, for that money, it should be INCREDIBLE. It's far from it. I'd compare the prices here to Pizza Luce, except Luce at least has creative and interesting pies and far better ingredients. The crust at John's is nothing special. If someone else is paying, and you just have a pepperoni and sausage, it's not bad pizza, but for the price, it's definitely not worth it. The only reason this place is allowed to compete is the lack of pizza in the area. With the loss of Abetto's, there's few options that aren't chains for delivery. Also, baked wings should be banned across America. read more

Quality pizza. Quality toppings, quality service, quality crust. The pre-designed orders are great (for veggie, go for a classic Meatless Wonder); but you can dream up your own, too. I've never seen Van Gogh on the walls of such a joint, nor have I eaten fresh 'za in the fully natural light of a glassed-in acute triangle (one could even call it an architectural pizza slice) between two semi-busy streets. Perhaps we should have had the pizza, because the pastas we ordered were, how shall I say this... "pedestrian". I had the "John's Special": sausage, green pepper, and onions on a paperdelle noodle. Noodles were cooked spot on...just right. The vegetables could have used about another minute or so in the pan. The sausage was just plain WRONG. "Italian Sausage" said the menu. No fennel, and a kind of "off" flavor. I asked John (a VERY nice guy!) and he said "I don't like fennel". Sorry... but if you are going to call it ITALIAN sausage it's got to have fennel in it. My wife's ravioli special was good, nothing special... just good. Also, the menu said the dish came with garlic bread. It was plain on the plate. I asked the cashier and she said "Oh, we changed that..." Hey kids, if it's on the menu it better be on my plate! We went there because one of my wife's students was playing a background music gig. The place was TOO LOUD even for a small group. If he's going to have music, he needs some fabric on the wall to smooth things out. And speaking of the walls... they sure could use some art. Best pizza place in the Twin Cities. There is none other like this when it comes to good pizza. I have it delivered at home and we get it at work. Everyone loves it. They are a bit more expensive, but when you eat the pizza you will forget about the price. In December we had a snow fall between 15 and 24 inches, this was the ONLY place delivering. My street had not been plowed, so the delivery guy came up the alley and called me to let me know he was there. THIS is GREAT service!!! The also have pasta, calzones, etc. The saghetti and meatballs was really good, too. If you go to the resturant (new location across the street ... great place), you can get pizza by the slice! If you go to there, parking can be a bit difficult ... esp in the winter with all the snow. read more

I love John's. It is in my neighborhood - thus I want to give it a biased five stars. However, it is a touch more expensive than I'm normally able to pay (and a lot more (way better than) Papa John's). The Pizza is outstanding. I haven't tried anything else on their large menu, but I stand by the pizza as some of the best in that area. I think it would be super cool if they could amp up the place into a sort of Green Mill or Pizza Luce with a bar and happy hour, I would love to hit it up for a beer and a slice to hang out with friends. Alas, it is pretty much best to just get it for delivery or pickup. If you're bored with Domino's, Pizza Hut and Papa John's, you will not be disappointed in the flavor of their pizza, it is awesome.
