Giuseppe Italian Ristorante is a quaint little eatery in New Brighton. We have been there several…read moretimes and it is almost always a great experience. The menu includes Italian mainstays like spaghetti, which is what I ordered tonight. The sauce is always perfect, a little tangy with a fresh tomato taste. I ordered a meatball and I was very disappointed by what I was served. It was a meat "nugget". However, shortly after serving my meal the waiter brought out a fresh meatball saying that the chef wanted me to have it because she thought the one with my spaghetti was "bad". That more than made up for my initial disappointment. My wife had the Baked Mosticolli Special and she was very happy with it. Each meal comes with a basket of homemade bread: a garlic bread twist, pepperoni bread, olive bread and traditional Italian bread. This is always a highlight. Tonight was no different. Normally I don't order dessert however tonight I ordered something called Papas Bread Pudding. This was heaven in a dish. The bread was crispy on the outside and soft and tender on the inside. The butter rum sauce was delicious and a scoop of vanilla ice cream was the perfect topping. I would recommend Giuseppe's for Italian that is fresh and tasty.

Giuseppe's seems perpetually busy and the crowd starts very early. When we arrived last Saturday, there were only two tables left and one of those was a quirky half table. What makes this restaurant popular is the consistency of the food, the good service and the focus on popular old-school Italian food. All of the favorites are there and they are done well. My go-to is often the spaghetti and meatballs, which is so easy to prepare at home, but still worth going out for if the restaurant does it right. The entrees come with a soup or salad, both of which are good. On this particular visit, it was really cold outside and the Minestrone was hot, chunky, and full of fresh vegetables. They also serve (an increasingly rare) bread basket with a variety of different fresh baked breads, which are perfect for dipping into the olive oil. The chicken marsala and the frequent special of Chicken Parnassian are excellent too, as is their pasta. Pro Tip: They don't take reservations, so go as early as you can, even on a week night. They are not open on either Sunday or Monday, so factor that into your visit. They open at 4 pm and close at 8 pm, so the total open hours for the week are 20 hours!

The menu is fairly basic, but the selections did taste great. We liked the garlic bread the best, we were able to eat the whole thing with just the two of us as they are so addicting! But they were apologetic for this.

Great low key ambiance. Believe it or not, I had the meat loaf off the menu. The menu literally said "yes meat loaf, it's that good". It was good, almost like eating veal with beef gravy. The gravy and the meat had a good flavor, worth a try. The table next to me a lady had the chicken Alfredo and she went on and on about how good it was. Yes tables are close to each other. I also tried the tiramisu, menu stated it was home made. It was not bad, just the whipped cream was a little heavy and it needed a little more espresso on the lady fingers. The waitress was amazing. She was polite, professional and had a 1920's style dress on, not sure how she waited tables and was the hostess in the dress and kept up. But she did and did an amazing job. The chef's did come out and check on folks and even did food running. The staff overall was exceptional. I will have to go back and try some of the pasta as well.

Voodoo is everything you would want in a savory dry rub. Twister was interesting- an italian/parmesan dry rub with a dash of tabasco; my partner disliked it but I loved it. Unique. It was only $12 an order on Wednesday, which was tolerable. At the full $17 this would be an absolute joke. Ranch was also mundane bottled and I got less than one stick of celery for my $.89 up charge to add it. They had adorable mini booths. The place was small, borderline cramped but not quite there yet. Charming. I would come back to try the pasta but the sizes of the dishes weren't impressive. This isn't a bad place- it's just absolutely average for above average prices.

All meat entrees come with both salad and pasta, making it a decent deal. Now on with the food itself, the pasta is amazing, the marinara sauce is some of the best I've had, the salmon is incredible, the lobster is ok, and the steak is some of the best I've had. I've had steak everywhere, from Florida to Alaska, and I have never had a steak like this, it was strangely tender, melt in your mouth, the fat was also a more meaty texture, probably due to the dry aging, overall one of the better steaks I've ever had. The atmosphere is quite casual for the quality of food, my group wore just T shirts. The actual building is nice, but quite old, could use a new ac, but the patio space is magical, with service just as quick. Before I conclude my review, I should note that there was some sign of mild mold in 2 of our waters, likely due to the ice machine, this is a common issue, and as far as I know, had no negative health effects. Overall the food was decently priced and quite good, not mind blowing, but delicious none the less. Small locally owned restaurant with fantastic service. Give it a try!
