We decided to get takeout the night we moved into our new house. I chose here because it is conveniently located four minutes away. Plenty of parking in front and a nice inside dining area. When I got there my food was ready in 15 minutes that as promised. The food was good. My chicken parm grinder was hot and tasty. Plenty of sauce just the way I like it. My wife had a mushroom slice. Fresh sliced mushrooms, too many for my liking but I didn't order the pizza. I will say I'm surprised they didn't throw a little mozzarella over the mushrooms. They just threw the mushrooms on top. Ordered Pasta Fazouole and it had no flavor: tasted like pasta water with beans and pasta. Definitely lacking key ingredients. Told the waitress, they tried to charge me anyway, then took it off but kept the tax on the soup I could not eat. The owner was not buying it was rude saying NO ONE ever complains. I told him to eat it and see that the cook made it too fast just to serve it. Owner was rude and didn't care. Sorry I work hard for my money and I expect good food. The fam and I came here for Father's Day, which also happened to be my dad's birthday. I hadn't had their zuppe di pesce since like 2007, so I was wildly excited for it, and it did not disappoint. Still one of my favorite meals ever. I tried a slew of their house martinis as well: espresso, limoncello and "grow a pear." They were all tasty, but extremely weak. For my pear one I asked them for a double, and that fixed the problem. Our server was very nice and attentive, and they gave my dad complimentary carrot cake and sung him happy birthday, which was adorable. My one complaint was that the drinks and dessert took forever to come out - not the server's fault, but they could probably speed it up in the kitchen and at the bar seeing as they weren't that busy. read more

This place has taken many different locations over the years but it has always been my go-to for light baked pizza and has the best chicken parm ever. The staff is awesome and very friendly. We started with the seasonal squash blossoms and then I of course got the chicken parm with vodka sauce and my other half got the half calzone half pizza. Both were great per usual and we will always be coming back. Great local business to support and the food has always been consistent. Horrible customer experience. Waited 30min in a line in the lobby to pick up my online order. Several staff members were sitting around the empty dining room while the takeout line grew to over 25 people. The two staff behind the counter were working hard but they let some people who spoke Italian cut the line, which was unfair. One of the owners even helped some guys he knew cut the line while the rest of us looked on. I know COVID has caused labor issues, but after 18m of this you'd think they had figure out how to manage their takeout business. read more

Love this new location. A cute bar area and a nice expanded menu. I grew up enjoying John's Best back when I was a kid in its original location. It Looked like a wine cave back then. I live in LA now but when I come to visit my parents I always want to get my John's Best Pizza fix. The Pizza is as yummy as ever. We also ordered baked Oysters as an appetizer they were great too. I took a menu home and saw that they offer catering for parties or gatherings. If I could give ZERO STARS I would I called and ordered two large pies. The man on the line says it's a minimum $25 order. I say ok and order MORE food. Then he proceeds to tell me I am FORCED to tip my driver $10+ in order to a get a delivery. I am a good tipper, this driver would of gotten a tip but my bill was $26 I was REQUIRED to make a almost 50% in order to get my food. As a customer being forced to tip a big percentage is the most horrible customer service i could of received. ZERO STARS. I'll keep driving to Salz pizza in bethel, what a joke. After ordering pizza here for the first time... my mind is boggled at how crowded it was for takeout. I ordered two pizzas... was told 20 minutes, waited an extra 30 upon arrival.There was a line for pizza take out... not too many people eating in the restaurant though. However, after all that.... the pizza was awful. doughy, flavorless and just bad considering how many other pizza joints exist in a 10 mile radius. Not very happy with the pizza take out. This is the second time we have recieved the wrong order. I do not understand how they get an order wrong. The person answering the phone should read the order back to you to be sure it is correct. And as the consumer i advise you to look at the order to verify its correct. Ran into a person i know when i brought the wrong pizza back and warned them. They said that they were given the wrong order but caught it before they paid. We stopped in last Saturday night and almost tuned around when we saw the sign on the front door basically stating, "expect slow service since we can't find help." Since it was pouring out we decided to go in nonetheless. The restaurant was about 70% full and we were seated immediately. Frankly the service was well beyond the non-covid days and was actually quite impressive. High attention to what was happening at the table, very quick refills on water and wine, and pretty quick food delivery. John's does a nice job on dinners and pizza. The food is always excellent quality, fresh, served in generous portions and reasonably priced. Good food and a good value - it's not gourmet, but is certainly worth visiting a few times a month. Only negative comment is the sauce was a bit watery - but satisfying an old Italian guy with sauce that's not his mom's or grandmothers is a difficult thing to do :) read more

We didn't enjoy our experience at John's. We ordered the Vesuzio (1/2 pizza, 1/2 calzone) with sausage in the calzone along with some items from the children's menu. When the waitress read back the order, she had the sausage on the pizza which we heard and corrected. When it arrived, pepperoni was in the calzone which we didn't know until we cut into it. We waited a bit once we realized so we could get it corrected, but she/no one ever came back over. My husband was starving, so we just went ahead-he ate it, I picked out the pepperoni. Either way, it was just an ok calzone. We let a bus boy know there was a problem when he came over. Still nothing. Then when the waitress finally checked on us at the end of the meal, I let her know about the error with our order. She said, well I thought you ordered pepperoni. It was just a disappointing response. Not I'm sorry, no offer to take off a couple of bucks or give the kids a free piece of fried dough. I found it just disappointing to have no concern about an incorrect order or the customers experience. I also do expect that wait staff check that an order is correct after a few minutes as that was always standard practice in the restaurants I have worked in. There are so many pizza / Italian places in the area, I wouldn't bother to eat here again or to recommend it. read more

I ordered a pizza (prices of menu)12.95 20 chicken tenders 16.99, small bowl of chicken noodle soup 4.95, 2 leter soda 3.00. Some how my bill comes to 55.61. This was my first time ever going to John's best and probably the last one. I tried to order a meatball grinder which is a pretty simple order. The waiter was very rude and told me they don't make grinders after lunch. No one could explain why, but they even had calzones and pizza rolls on the menu...We proceeded to ask the manager if he would make one and he was extremely rude. After how rude the customer service was I decided to not even order anything. The people who I was with have been eating John's best for 20+ years and could not believe how horrible the service was. The waiter didn't even ask how everything was when the food came out. I would not recommend this establishment. Customer service gets a 1 star. read more

This is an addendum to my original posting. I received a takeout menu in my mailbox and there were offerings not listed on the menu in the restaurant, some of which were favorites of ours. When I contacted the restaurant I was told that IF they had the items available to prepare what I wanted they would do it, but I've heard from other people that when you dine in you cannot get anything on the takeout menu. This is outrageous, obviously if they offer it as a takeout item it should be available at the restaurant. Needless to say, we won't be back and have since gone to the New Milford location where everything is available even if you dine in. Very odd! read more

I went to this restaurant Friday night. It was my first time. The atmosphere was very nice. I would've liked different maybe darker lighting. The waitstaff was extremely attentive on what seemed like a very busy night. Our server was prompt and very kind. He apologized multiple times for the wait on our food. He was constantly checking on us to see if there was anything more he could do. It was busy, but that did not excuse the uncomfortable wait for our entrees. It seems clear that the kitchen is understaffed. Overall the fresh new decor and inviting environment makes me want to come back in a few weeks. The food was delicious and exceeded my expectations! Wow, I don't know what has happened to one of the best pizza restaurants in the area, but it is just terrible now. The Sicilian pizza which they were the best is now served with a pre-made dough which is stale. Our most recent order was the worst. Take out with a 12 minute drive combined with a 20 minute wait only to find the pizza stale and almost inedible. We called and were told that they would make a new one but since we should have checked the pizza at pickup we were partly to blame. Seriously? We won't be going back there and I would suggest you go elsewhere for better pizza and better customer service. read more
