My sister asked me to take her here one time after she got off at Dublin High. This is a wonderful little place with friendly staff. They had some variety still left to choose from by the time we got there which was almost 3 in the evening. The guy behind the counter was being extra nice to us because I told him it was our very first time so he actually gave us extra chocolate donuts to try. Probably because they wanted us to come back often and try the other donuts they have. Absolutely delish! I am a big fan of chocolate donuts and they have a triple chocolate style donut here that I dipped into milk. The price is really really affordable and the best thing about it! Update. Its been 8 years since my original review of Johnny's and like fine wine, this place got better with age! Over the past 8 years I've had some significant life changes. I got married, popped out 3 kids but my constant was Johnny's. This was the place where I came to to stress eat and to celebrate special occasions with the kids. Johnny's by far has the best donuts in the Tri-Valley. Yes, better than the Donut Wheel, Dainty's, Best, Heritage, Donut King, and Jelly's (I've tried them all). My standard "go to" donuts are: Chocolate Raised Apple Fritter Maple Bar Maple Raised Cinnamon Roll Sprinkles with white frosting (kids favorite) Donut holes If you get there early enough (around 6AM) you can get fresh donuts that are still hot! When ever I bring donuts to the office I often hear "OOOOOooooooo Johnnys"!!! They're also a hit with my co-workers as well. Another great thing about Johnny's is that they're community oriented. I'm really surprised by the high number of good reviews for this place. I am definitely not a fan. The doughnuts here are really bread like. They're nothing even in the vicinity of what a Krispy kreme doughnut is like which is my best example of a well known doughnut type. I have a range of acceptability and this place doesn't make the cut. I eat a doughnut maybe once every two or three months so I'm not counting calories and I just want a traditional really awesome fried doughnut not a sweet bread calorie saver. Also my husband really dislikes going to the shady run down shopping center its located in. We also have a problem with a doughnut shop running out of doughnuts by 10:30am. We are not early risers on weekends. Highly recommend Dough Boy's doughnut's instead. It's in a little nicer center and the place looks cleaner too. Been going here since elementary school. Grew up in dublin so I know the place well. I love their donuts so much more than any other shops - few have come close. My favorites are the raised and crullers but I even love their cake ones too. Not so at other places. They're always kind there and very generous with free coffee refills (I get a couple). Also, frosting on their donuts actually has flavor. Some places have tasteless frosting so I just thought I'd add that in. Great selection. Even late in the day -it's a gamble- but I've been lucky and have seen quite a good choice left still. Love this place! read more

Wow, this place was just about perfect. The rise on the raised donuts was outstanding, the cake was dense but fresh. Sugar donuts are my go to benchmark and they were superb. Many places just use granulated sugar where a finer sugar work so much better. It almost seemed like they did their own grind, the sugar was powdery to very fine which had a great slightly irregular effect. The bf brought back a glazed donut and apple fritter, and we warmed them up in the microwave for a few seconds before eating them. The glazed was nice and fluffy, but had a bit too much vanilla taste for me. The apple fritter was huuuuuge- we were expecting it to be dry since it was so thick, but it was actually nice and airy. The best thing was that neither donut was greasy!! Even after microwaving there was no puddle of grease on the plate. I'm still partial to Stan's Donuts in the Sobay for glazed donuts, but for a good, non-greasy option, Johnny's is a good choice. read more

I met friends at Blossom Bees for brunch and stopped by here because it was next door and I was craving donuts. Little did I know, I checked in on Yelp and saw that it was highly rated, so that was a bonus. I bought 1/2 a dozen - assorted donuts from chocolate, glazed, glazed old fashion, cinnamon cake donut, and sugar. All of them were SO good!! What a treat and a great surprise! I only wish I lived closer by so that I could go more often. This is a hidden gem and it really shouldn't be. I go here about once a month to bring back goodies for the family breakfast. I'd like to do it more often, my spare tire wouldn't appreciate it as much though. They have a good selection and keep cooking throughout the morning so they don't run out as quickly as some other places I've been to and thought they have their low moments I've seen them restock while I've been in line. The raised donuts are fluffy, the cake donuts are moist, and the fillings never have that metal taste I run into at some donut shops. I'm really happy with this place. read more

The first time I went, there were no donuts left! Granted, it was at 12 on a Saturday, so I understood :P Came back again with the boy&the best at noonish on a weekday, and there were tonnnns left! The lady behind the counter was pretty nice. I got my 1/2 dozen donuts for $5.50 :) Not bad. My best got one of those cream-filled maple eclair-like ones, and she liked it a lot. They don't fill it until you buy it, in case you don't want it filled, which I thought was nice. The powdered donut I got was pretty good; I think if I had it warm, I'd like it a lot better. Authentic 1970s vibe. Probably the best glazed donut holes I've ever had...Buttery delicious! They also fill custard donuts to order right in front of you which is cool. My brother is a huge fan of their maple bars and apparently other people are too because by 8:30AM they were sold out. Fortunately they had more in the oven; it was worth waiting for. They served our hot maple custard bars on plates and brought them to the table :) Incredible service for a donut shop. They were sold out of the crullers when I got there at 10 AM on a Saturday but they still had plenty to choose from. I liked that they had a lot of sprinkle donuts - some with the pastel lines and some with the dot sprinkles. I really liked their glazed donuts. The donuts here were fresh and doughy when I arrived there last Sunday before 8 am. The lady seemed a little miffed that I paid with my debit card for a $7 transaction, but part of the appeal to me about this place was that they accepted cards as payment, since many donut spots are cash only. Johnny's Donuts is my absolute favorite breakfast snack place. A Johnny's white cake sprinkle donut with a hot cup of coffee is seriously my own little slice of heaven. I have brought these donuts to work and they have been gone within a half hour. The place is a cute old time donut shop where the retired guys hang out in the early morning eating donuts, talking, and drinking coffee.
