There are TV's on both sides of the bar and at the entrance of the restaurant. I was able to indulge in World Cup soccer. Happy Hour is from 4pm-6pm Monday - Friday. Quite a few items are marked down to $10 as are some of the cocktails. I started with a $10 Lamp Martini (Dirty Gin Martini). I liked it although, it was super mini. I can see why it was "only" $10. I'd prefer a regular sized glass. I can't believe they charge $1 for blue cheese olives. The bartender recommended the Caesar Salad and told me it was one of the best items on the menu. Super duper different. I've never had a Caesar salad like this one. It's like little sandwich bites of salad. I really liked it. These things lived up to the bartender hype. Then, I tried the $10 Deviled Eggs. They were pretty standard. Then, I had the $10 Chili Bomb Hummus. I love a really good hummus and this one was that. Up next, "The Best Espresso Martini in Orlando," Whoops, actually it wasn't this time the bartender lied to me. Wine Bar George still holds that title. I wish the espresso was brewed at the bar, but she told me it was from some place down the street. Lastly, I had the $14 Charred Cauliflower. I liked this thing too. I wish they made a spicy version. It arrived ice cold, lacked flavor, and was one of the most disappointing entrées I've had. For roughly $45 between my meal and wine, I expected a much better experience. While I appreciate that they offered a Kids Eat Free promotion, the long wait, missing meal, and poor handling of the situation overshadowed that benefit. We came in for a late dinner around 9:00 PM and were pleasantly surprised--the initial 30-minute estimated wait turned into getting seated in just 10 to 15 minutes. Service was top-notch from start to finish, and the food was simply delicious. Everything was cooked to perfection with so much depth and flavor in every single bite. We kicked off the meal with an appetizer spread of Chicken Karaage, Truffle Sesame Tuna, and Tempura Fried King Oyster Mushrooms--all executed wonderfully. For my main, I went with the Susuru Chashu Gohan mini bowl along with the Short Ribs and Skirt Steak. For me, it was the absolute ideal balance of protein and carbs, and every piece of meat was insanely flavorful. You cannot leave without dessert: the Matcha Tiramisu. Wow. Rich, decadent, and genuinely one of the best and most unique tiramisus I've ever tasted. Make sure you leave room to end your meal with it! The rest of my family loved their meals just as much. You can add fried chicken to the salad for an additional fee, and it's worth it for the lightly battered, tender chicken that they add. This Wednesday special is brilliant and absolutely delicious. The fries are perfect (get the honey mustard!), and the salad would be something I would order time and time again, even off the special. My friend got the double smashburger and the smell of the caramelized onions compelled me to ask for a bite. I'm willing to stray from my fries and salad to enjoy this burger again next time. Where The Strand is an outstanding neighborhood restaurant which happens to also feature an interesting beverage program, dba is an outstanding little cocktail bar which happens to also feature an interesting bites menu. Both do everything they do really well. In terms of drinks, my go-to is the cigarette for breakfast- essentially their take on an old fashioned, but every drink I've ordered has been equally potent and balanced. The drinks have got nuance. I've also ordered a wet gin martini with blue cheese olives and that classic was done to perfection. But, if you aren't a drinker, don't fret- I went with a friend who is pregnant and they were able to concoct a fun mocktail for her as well. in terms of bites, you can't go wrong with the duck flatbread (I have been dreaming about it since!), the pan con tomate, or the cacio e pepe deviled eggs (same as on the menu next door). Next time I'm definitely trying the octopus salad! Finally, ambiance. This spot feels like you're sitting in a good friend's cozy living room. Assuming your good friend has impeccable taste and plenty of time for a curated thrift store haul. They've got records playing great tunes (you'll get some quick quiet moments as they change the vinyls throughout the night) and the lighting is dim.
