This is kind of a JR in name but not always in practice. No cheery singing here. No fun at all for the employees, it seems. But a decent and convenient place to grab a quick bit before a movie. I am absolutely underwhelmed by the restaurant choices at Arundel Mills so I usually come to JR by default. As in, "Service at Du Claw : Atrocious; Food at Dave and Busters: Inedible; Mexican place (name?) Is great for chips and salsa and a beer but the fun stops there; We're in the mall already so let's eat at Johnny Rockets. That's precisely what happened recently when our original choice of birthday lunch restaurant (in Ellicott City) proved to be closed for lunch on Saturdays (despite their web page saying they were open on Saturdays. The "proof" was a locked door and lights off when we arrived.) We already had tickets for a movie at Arundel Mills and everyone was starved, so we just headed there, with that sigh of compromise: "I guess (sigh) we'll eat at Johnny Rockets." Having said that, once we were there I went all reckless and ordered a steak and cheese instead of a patty melt and it was sooooo good!. Probably the best I have ever had. Didn't care much for my chili cheese fries, in fact even just the plain fries were a disappointment. But, hey, more room for my sandwich. And I ate every bite (and I am a notorious food waster so my mom would be really proud.) Yes, I tasted the onions throughout the film. (I would probably say hold the onions next time.) But most certainly yes I will be back for round two (hold the fries as well) sometime in the near future read more

I've always wanted to go to this place because I always see them around. The food was ok. I got a burger and fries and a root-beer float. But to be honest what is great about this place is the atmosphere. I felt as if I had traveled back in time when life was much more simple. It has a cute charm to it. I also felt like a little kid again drinking a float. My burger had like half an onion on it and I'm a huge fan of onions...but not that much! Decided to hit this place up after a movie screening for some late night grub. I was far from disappointed. Even though my step son and I were one of the last few customers for the night, service was top notch. I hate going to places where you can tell your the last person to be served food. We watch out waitress make our food and it was quickly done. I have always enjoyed Johnny Rockets fries but the Grilled chicken sandwich I had was out standing. I decided to take home my leftovers only for my fiance whom i asked if he had wanted anything on my way home say no and still crush them. Haven't been in a Johnny Rockets in about 15 years and wanted a quick meal before a movie. Was pleasantly surprised at how much it had improved. The sweet potato fries were hot, crispy and fresh and the Philly Cheese Steak was on a fresh role, the steak had great flavor and it came out fast. It was also at a reasonable price. read more

Walked in on this Saturday afternoon, decided to sit at the bar, was given two menus and waited on promptly, granted, our waiter must have been having a not so great day, pretty grumpy, not towards us but in general. I think our waiter was on drugs. Seriously. He was talking very slowly and couldn't keep things straight. We wanted a plain burger with a tomato on it. He kept on insisting the the way to do it was to order a more expensive cheeseburger and then take off all the toppings. Then the food comes, and guess what? There's cheese on it. We ask him why that happened and he claims that the original burger comes with cheese and we didn't specify. We show him the menu item. Then he says there's actually two different original burgers, one of which comes with cheese and that must have been what happened. We asked about getting our usual flavor shot in the soda and he didn't seem to understand and thought we wanted fruit put into it, then offered strawberries instead of cherries. I don't have words for how talking with this person was like speaking to a stone. After an hour in the restaurant and no burgers, the manager approached us, comped us the fries and drinks, and we left hungry. I was in the Mall a lot, so I visited them a couple of times. The food is so so, and worse is the service, you have to wait at least 20-30 minutes to get a order fulfilled. Last month experience really threw me off. I ordered an smoking house double to go, the correct amount plus tax is $8.69, but they charged me $33.69. I almost missed it, just by accident checking another charge I scanned my credit card statement and found 33.69 charge, if I did not do that, they would have stolen $25 from me. My 2 cents: keep your receipt and watch your credit card bill. read more

The wait staffs and manager are friendly, too. So leave your McD alone and go rock with Johnny. Came here with the kids and fiance. I had never been to a Johnny Rockets before...this place made me never want to return. We got seated within a few minutes (after watching other people never even get seated, i realized this was an accomplishment). Our waitress gave us 3 menus after ascertaining we had 4 people in our party, then came back about 10 minutes later to take our orders. We ordered drinks, one son ordered a grilled cheese, fries, and the Oreo shake, the other son ordered the chicken club sandwich, and i ordered cheese fries. We watched the waitress while we waited for our drinks (there was only one family there before us). She repeatedly got empty glasses, sat them on the fountain, didn't fill them, walked away and just stood around, eventually returning to fill those glasses and repeat the process. Took about 15 minutes to get our drinks and shake. Then we waited. And waited. And waited. No idea what the waitress was doing, but all told, we waited an hour before we hunted down the person we think was the manager and let him know that apparently our orders had never been entered (every single family that came in after us got their food, ate, and left, or got ignored so long that they walked out). One family got so sick of waiting for the waitress to return that they just took their own glosses up to the fountain and refilled them by themselves. We watched the cook proceed to make one son's food...then 20 minutes later, still no food. We walked up to the counter and asked the person we assumed to be the manager if we could just pay for the drinks and leave. He informed us that our food was coming right up. He also comped our meal. About 10 minutes later, we finally had the waitress come to our table for the second and final time. Fries were completely unseasoned, but my sons enjoyed their sandwiches. Got done eating, waited forever again, got sick of waiting, walked up to the counter, got a box for what the kids didn't finish eating, and left. They seemed understaffed, but even so, the service was terrible and rude. We watched our waitress just stand around for extended periods of time, doing absolutely nothing, then she had the nerve to ask where her tip was. I've absolutely never had worse service in my life. I hate not tipping, but i won't leave a tip for a meal that had to be comped because service was non-existent. VisiteD JR last week turns out they have reopened with a whole new management. Got seated quickly though it was weekend and a rush hour!! staff was very friendly and dedicated!! Ordered the new twix shake and turned out to be the best i have yet tried!! Also ordered chicken burger, fries and onion rings all served hot and fresh !!! The assigned waitress was caring in enough to come back and ask if would like anything else and were enjoying our meal!! everything was pefect!! id rate this branch of JR 10/10 from staff till food and serving time everything was quick and upto the mark!!! What can I say? I enjoyed the milkshake. The tasty drink was memorable and total comfort. I was not so pleased with the appearance of the place. They are in need of a makeover BAD! This place is falling apart and to think you forget your at Arundel Mills Mall. Basically the restaurant has lost that new feel. If the place was updated it would be the perfect date spot just before a movie at the cinema just a hop skip and jump away down the mall aisle. I also ordered a burger well done and I totally enjoyed that cheese wiz stuff they put on their burgers. I know unhealthy right but, it was yum! The staff were cool and friendly, they even took pics of me and my Auntie. I did use the jukebox and the music was short for the price. I wish I could give this place negative stars. #FAIL. My mom was famished so we just chose to grab something fairly quick prior to our movie screening. 1st fail - standing at the door in front of the sign that says "Please Wait to be Seated" while some little girl who worked there chit chatted with her boyfriend and whilst several other employees saw us but did not attend to us. John, the cook came out to greet us. 2nd fail - John was sweet but should not be the face of Johnny Rockets. He was clearly disgruntled about the fact that he was doing about six different jobs. 3rd fail - everyone's apron was FILTHY. So gross. If my mom wasn't starving I would have walked away at the 1st fail. But damn, at least have a clean apron. Just nasty. Like they haven't been laundered since the restaurants inception. 4th fail - we got there around 3:30 or 4:00 pm and they had run out of silverware. My sister asked for utensils and a sweet little girl came out in a disgusting apron with what turned out to be unwrapped plastic ware hidden behind her back. And she quietly and politely asked my sister would she like that instead before handing it to her. UNWRAPPED. 5th fail - the waitress forgot to order my sisters milkshake. 6th fail - there was some type of team meeting right at the bar seating area during which we could here unintelligible disgruntled complaints by employees. I ordered two items, a shake and loaded tots they brought one. Then my waiter brought the check over with the tots on it. I asked if she was going to bring the tots? She wanted to know if I had ordered them or if it was a mistake? I told her I ordered them. When she told the fry cook he argued with her about came back to get the check to show him, he argued some more before agreeing to make them then he made three more orders before mine. This was my first and last time eating at Johnny Rockets. There were only two groups of people when we came here. One just got their food and the other just completed their order. Our waitress was nice, but not very attentive. The wait for our food was too long, being no one else who ordered in front of us. I watched one of my orders (philly cheese steak) being placed under a heat lamp, about five minutes after ordering. I thought to myself, "wow, that was fast, it shouldn't be too much longer for my burger". I then watched my burger (smokehouse double) get placed on top the prep table. It sat there for TEN MINUTES! No heat lamp, no heat source. My food was cold when I finally got it. Additionally, I requested my onion rings, on the side, and to add mushrooms, jalepenos and grilled onions. When I received my food, our waitress asked if everything seemed correct. I told her that the mushrooms, grilled onions and onion rings were missing. I told her not to worry about the mushrooms and onions, I would just like the onion rings. I knew the mushrooms and onions had to be cooked and didn't want to wait any longer for them. She didn't listen. Almost 10 minutes later, I received the onion rings and the mushrooms and onions. At this point I was bites away from being finished with my burger. TO TOP OFF MY EXPERIENCE, AS I WAS JUST A FEW FRIES AWAY (cheese and bacon topped fries) FROM FINISHING MY FRIES, I NOTICED A HAIR IN THE CHEESE!!! As for my other order, the Philly cheese steak, I think beef jerky is more moist. Ok, that's an exaggeration, but it was extremely dry, due to sitting inches under a heat lamp for more than ten minutes. Holy Cow what a turn around! I came here a while back and swore I would NEVER come back! Today we were greeted by happy helpful hostesses and a full staff. I don't know if it's poorly managed or if the employees just don't really care, but this was by far the worst dining experience I've ever had. Came here with a friend, because we were looking to grab some grub before the movie. It's literally a thirty second walk to the theater, so figured why not. Bought the tickets, and got to Johnny Rockets at 6:00PM, and movie started at 6:50PM. We stood in "line" for ten minutes. Line in quotes because it said please wait to be seated, but there were a good four or five booths available, and we were the only ones in line. It was just the employees not coming around to seat us. Figured the food was going to be alright so we waited. We were seated around 6:10PM. Kind of made us antsy, because that left us only 30 minutes to receive our food, eat, and go, but we knew what we wanted, so figured it would be close, but manageable. Waitress asked us what we wanted, and I ordered the Johnny Rockets burger with a fried egg, chili cheese fries, and a Chipotle chicken sandwich with regular fries. Interestingly, she didn't ask us how we wanted the burger cooked. She brought our drinks immediately, which was a good sign. But then the wait started. We waited, and waited and waited. 6:30, no food. 6:40, no food. I had to go to the theater to get a refund because we weren't going to make the movie. I came back from the theater, and my friend was still sitting there at an empty table. Finally, at 6:50PM, our meals came out. Was it worth the wait? No way, no how. We waited more than thirty minutes for our food, and if it took that long, you'd expect it to be piping hot. Wrong. It was warm at best. The chili cheese fries were warm, and the cheese was just shredded on top. Wasn't even melted. My sandwich tasted stale, like it had been kept under a heat lamp for a few hours. My fries weren't soggy, but they weren't crispy. Again, like they've been kept under a heat lamp for a few hours. My friend's burger was cooked all the way through, but it was warm. The egg was cooked all the way through, but again, it was warm. This was the worst excuse for food I've ever had the displeasure to experience. I was so miffed by all of this. So, when the waitress came to ask how the food was. I told her about how long everything took, how the food tasted awful, how nothing was hot, and how this was unacceptable. She gave me some attitude about how everything was correct, it was just shredded cheese on the chili, it was made to order (which was clearly bs or they made it in the first ten minutes, and decided to serve it to us 30 minutes later), and said, "Do you just want to cancel the order?" And I said, "Yes." I've never done this before, but then I grabbed my jacket, helped my friend with her jacket, and we left. I've been a server before, and I've worked in restaurants for more than a decade, so normally I can deal with a lot and be understanding, but I didn't feel bad at all for walking out. I loved Johnny Rockets and was excited to find one in Maryland. We stopped in on our way to the airport. The milkshake was great, but the hamburger was terrible. The hamburger was so thin, all you could taste was the bread and ketchup. What happened to the beef (I refrained from saying where's the beef)? But, where was the beef? How thick should a burger be? I understand there will be differences depending on how it is cooked. This store is in Arundel Mills Mall. Maybe other JR's are better. One more thing, the ambiance was missing. The JR in NY, had a jute box, that had 50 and 60 songs to play, the hamburger was wrapped the '50s way and the shake came in a tall clear glass with whipped cream and a cherry on top.
