We were not happy with Richmond Exteriors who handled replacement of our custom awning and I left a separate review for their workmanship and less than competent abilities. This review is for the Tag crew who replaced our windows in our home. As with most home improvement projects during the Pandemic everything cost more and shipments were delayed due to plant shut downs and limited employees. Before the final order was placed Tag scheduled Jacob, the installer, to confirm the final measurement of all windows prior to ordering. I was extremely grateful for this additional step since we had 3 different window sizes. On the scheduled window confirmation date we found out he had a death in the family and would be going out of town. Most would have cancelled our appointment, and understandably so, but Jacob did not. He arrived, handled business, and left town afterwards. The window order was placed quickly afterwards and we so appreciated Jacob going above and beyond. When the windows arrived Tag scheduled the installation date quickly. Jacob, and his team, arrived on time the day of and worked non-stop until done. They obviously knew what they were doing as the removal of the old windows and installing the new windows were completed by mid afternoon. We expected a day and a half process even though we were told one day. Things always happen that delays the process so I was being realistic. Not necessary with this window team. Window removal was done quickly, they respected the interior and exterior of our home and clean up was excellent. You'd never have known they were there except for the wonderful new windows afterwards. We love our new windows, how much quieter the house is and the amount of engery I'm sure we're currently saving. Just from the noticeable difference we've seen already, I'm sure there will be a positive financial savings. Do not hesitate to contact Tag Exteriors if you're in the market for windows, roofing or siding.

In the end, I pursued another option thanks to a friend's connection that got me a very good deal. I contacted Watergate about some roofing issues at my home that I was aware were quite serious. I had two friends who both gave me a good reference for Watergate. One friend indicated they were they only company he'd dealt with that did not default to recommending a new roof. The other friend shared that they support Habitat for Humanity, a nonprofit I also believe in. So, I contacted the company and requested an estimate. They set a date, and their employee arrived on the day and at the time that was scheduled. As I recall, his name was Max. We discussed my concerns. He did a thorough search of my concerns, and indicated he'd be contacting me soon with an estimate. He provided the estimate within the expected time-frame, which ended up being pretty rare among the estimates I did receive. He communicated well. He followed up multiple times. I will note the estimate was the second highest I received, though considerably lower than the highest. However, in their defense I felt like Watergate was really targeting solving all my concerns. They do offer a financing option. One slight customer service quirk of mine - if I e-mail you, I expect an e-mail response. Both times I e-mailed, within five minutes I got a phone call. If I wanted a phone call, I'd call. This is relatively minor, but it did bug me. It didn't bug me enough to drop a star. Overall, I was pleased here. As I noted, I ultimately opted for another choice but I was impressed by the service here. It didn't feel high pressure at all, though there was intentionality. There's a difference. I love that they work in the community. Since I have two friends who also praised them, I have to still give them a thumbs up. While I didn't choose Watergate this time, I was impressed enough that I would still call them again should future work be needed.

They were working on our house for about a year and a half when the Manager stopped responding to us. After 90 days of silence, we took legal action. Below isn't even everything that they did. I just hit the review character limit. I have photos of everything. First, Richmond dropped off the wrong trim and also not enough materials to cover our home. When they started working, we noticed that when you pushed on the stucco boards from the outside, they would push in, and had no stability behind them. We paid for OSB but they did not install OSB. Everything had to get re-done. They left holes open in our siding for months. We found squirrels in holes in the sides of our house, and heard them in the ceilings. James Hardie reps had to come show the Richmond installers how to install the siding correctly. We had to tell the Richmond installers how to properly apply weatherproof tape around the windows, because they weren't doing it at all. They left an open, loose sawblade on the stairs of our walkway after leaving for the day. They tried to use painted primed trim instead of ordering the more expensive, real J.H. colorplus boards that we paid for in our contract. We called them out on it, and they had to re-order the REAL Color Plus boards. Water leaked into our living room wall/floor because the workers messed up some flashing on the roof right above where it was. They kept running out of materials so they would always have to re-order more. Each time they had to reorder, it took roughly 2-3 months. This happened probably 5-6 times. MAJOR water damage happened to multiple interior walls, flooring, and ceiling. An inspector confirmed that the water was running off a roof area, into an open wall hole to the right of it. Their gutter guys broke an exterior light and the electrical box that went with it. This was not replaced until almost a year later. They also installed almost every single gutter with the wrong pitch. Water would pour over the edges and down the sides of our windows/siding. A downspout installed also broke off because it just wasn't ever properly connected. A bat got into our house through the hole from the water leak since they never patched it up. Our two cats were chasing it, so we had to take them to the vet. When some old gutters were taken down, they dumped all the gross stuff inside them (and huge 5" nails) all over our back deck, siding and awning, right outside the door. I had to tell them the next day to come back and clean it up. A soffit board wasn't wide enough in one of the areas, so they took some stucco siding (completely different texture), to patch it, and make it wide enough. When they came inside to fix all the interior wall damage that they caused, things got worse. The worker didn't put drop cloths down, so plaster dust got everywhere. He then mopped everything without vacuuming first, so it turned the drywall dust into paste, and then he proceeded to push that paste into almost all of the cracks in our hardwood floors with the mop. It was insane. 38k of hardwood floor damage. A trim board was actually falling off the house at one point because they didn't attach it well. They dented one of our gutters with their ladder and also incorrectly tethered/nailed the ladder directly through our roof tiles. The workers shot a nail into our mature River Birch tree. They didn't tear off our old wood soffit. They just nailed our new soffit over the old one, even though our contract said they would tear the existing wood siding off. They never installed a drip edge when they installed the gutters, and it was listed that they would install it in our contract, with us paying for 380 ft. of it. We had to get our home completely re-sided with someone else, because of Richmond.

After swimming our way through buckets, turning off the water main and sopping up the water in the kitchen, we quickly pulled up Yelp to search for 1.) a plumber and 2.) a restoration business to save us from further, long term damage. By 8:30am Corbin and crew were already at our house with diagnostic equipment and a water damage mitigation plan. He was extremely patient to explain the whole process, start to finish, and even helped us understand the steps to filing an insurance claim. His team worked weekend days to get the work done quickly, and 4 days after we woke up to a kitchen waterfall we were all dry again. Of course, parts of our kitchen had to be removed and demolished to get all the air-moving equipment access to dry out the walls, but even the contractors coming to patch everything back up were impressed with how careful the Restorex team was to only demolish what was necessary to carry out their mitigation plans. So happy we found Restorex when we were up a creek without a paddle!
